They're not buying the 360 because it's a 360: They're buying it because it's the only next-gen videogame system available on shelves right now.
I'd be surprised if even that happens that much. I'm pretty sure most parents know that getting a kid something different from what he asked for, especially at $400 like the 360, is a risky proposition at best. From my own experiences, and I was far from any kind of brat, this was pretty true. If I asked for a pair of Jordans and my mom delivered a pair of Pro Wings, I wasn't going to be a happy camper. This wasn't about being a spoiled kid; if my mom thought Jordan's were too expensive then she just wouldn't buy them. But if she was going to buy me something, and couldn't find it, she knew just to go in another direction or to "IOU" it. This is the experience I've gotten with my nephew as well.

I think it's mostly an M$ fantasy that people will buy 360s in lieu of sold out PS3s during the holidays. Will it happen? Yeah, I'm sure it will happen a few times. But it's a lot of money to be throwing around on something that your kid could may not be completely satisfied with, and I don't know many parents who would take that risk.

Depends on the buyer...I would never sub for the kids I buy for ...but My brother and sister sure do.
They have the whats the difference attitude.

I just ask them what they want instead ...which could also result in the 360/Wii buy.

Some will sub a 360 or a Wii...especialy if its a younger kid....Others wont.

MS will definately take a bite out of $ony maybe just not as big they think.

And tell that to the foreign motorcycle dealer in the U.S. who would be stupid enough to sell nothing but cruisers, competing squarely against Harley-Davidson.

Let's not forget it's a "BIG KID" market these days with the 360 and PS3 where the average player's age has jumped up to an average of 33 years old, quite a contrast to the early days of Nintendo and PS2 gamers.

Yes the PS3 costs more than M's machine, but parents this time will not just buy it for their kids, but most likely themselves. Contraversy aside whether they care for the Blu-ray player or not, the fan base is there, and I see a shortage of PS3's for problably another 6 months.

Kazuya wrote:LOL, you've got to be kidding. You think the PS3 is going to not be the industry leader against a machine that has no presence at all in Japan and a machine that really is targeting a different audience since it has no chance of competing technically. The egg nog is flowing early obviously. I guess the 360 is going to sell 100 million this time (despite the fact it's selling exactly at the same rate as the Xbox did), and the PS3 around 20...
I am not going to speak for Teal, but I think what he is trying to say is that most of us (not all obviously) here at DSP could give a rats @ss if Sony wins in Japan. I don't care about Japan nor the kind of games that are developed and published in Japan. I DO care about how the US versions of the 360 and PS3 are doing. I also don't recall anyone making any such claims about the 360 selling 100 million. Those are the kinds of comments which some people here (myself included) find completely unnecessary.

And you wonder why some people here give you a hard time....you want to be taken seriously and respected. Stop posting things like this. It is unnecessary and completely irrelevant.

Yep, in a nutshell, that's it...I don't give a damn. Kaz, I don't respond to you that much because whatever happens in the sales room of either company means precisely dick to me, when for you it seems the tides ebb and flow on the aquisition and pronouncement of such 'knowledge'.

I'll refrain from using the 'F' word (and it's not the one that ends in 'UCK'), but I believe it to apply across the board to all those who are upended and carried away by a game machine, acting as though they have majority share in the holdings of Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo. I just don't care that much.

The only (damn, it's hard not to say it) 'you-know-what' in this conversation is you, Kaz, and frankly, I don't consider your opinion in making a single observation or decision.

I'll take that as a long-winded way of saying "I have nothing of substance to add after running my mouth making unfounded statements." Since you didn't want to address what I said, you certainly should have kept to your policy of not responding to me. I think it goes without saying what I think of your "opinion", and if it doesn't it's quite a bit worse than what you think of mine.

Well, I've had enough. Guys, it's really not all that hard. Post PS3 impressions or remain quiet in the impressions thread. I think this is the 4th PS3 thread to be locked. If people want to bash the PS3 please do so after you actually have impressions. If people want to defend the PS3 please do so after you actually have impressions. It's the same people in every PS3 thread and it's ridiculous. We know how everyone feels at this point and the back-and-forth bickering is tired and old. This thread is locked. If another PS3 impressions thread is created and is used for anything but PS3 impressions it will be locked.
