Or Cal for that matter. Obviously the Bears were looking forward to next week, and got stung. Should have a clear head for the Trojans next week.dbdynsty25 wrote:If SC goes down to ND, then all hell is gonna break loose. Hello Boise St. and Rutgers (and yes, Boise St. was lucky as hell tonight). No way in hell they can sneak into the title game if all of the big time 1 loss teams lose again....can they?
Still a lot of football to go.
No I think Cal was overrated as long as they relied on an unproven QB. Longshore hasn't shown he can win big games and the running game isn't as dominant as in previous years.snaz16 wrote:Or Cal for that matter. Eh, it's a rivalry. You oughta be down here in Alabama this coming week if you want to hear some really harsh stuff...Sully wrote:That was harsh.bkrich83 wrote:Cal did what they always do. Get themselves just in a position to make a statement, then piss down their leg when game time comes.
Cal will never be an elite National Championship type team, because they don't have the will to win games that really count.
...especially considering that the Iron Bowl is now all that either team is playing for...

Cal's not getting recruits like most top programs, at least not yet.
They can beat up on some other Pac 10 schools and second or third-tier schools in some other top conferences.
But the game against Tennessee is a better gauge of where they stack up talent-wise. At best, Cal can only hope to get leftover talent that USC, Texas, OSU, etc. hasn't picked up. I don't even think they recruit as much nationally as even UCLA. Even Stanford back in the day would get more recruits out of state.
Maybe Tedford will eventually change that but it's going to take time.

You don't have to look any further than the Hollidy Bowl a few years back. They got snubbed, out of a BCS bowl. THey made a huge stink out of it, then when it came to prove they were a legit big time team, who was wrongly left out, Texas Tech. who really wasn't that good, kicked them in the nuts.Sully wrote:That was harsh.bkrich83 wrote:Cal did what they always do. Damn, Georgia sucks but after Saturday I felt like we just won the National Championship. I know if if if if but if we freaking beat Vandy and Kentucky we could be looking at 10-11 wins for the 5th year in a row.bdunn13 wrote:Georgia has lot to Kentucky and Vandy this year.. there is still alot of Football left but damn. This is not what I expected. Battle is having a career day.... maybe Matt is glad he came to Georgia afterall..
Go Dawgs.
All year long Georgia's receivers had an AWFUL case of the drops but damn did they play good against AU. They did not drop a pass all day. And Matt Stafford played damn good.. as good as you can ask a freshman to play. He showed he has some speed too.... helluva athlete.
I think I cheered the hardest saturday when he FINALLY decided to slide

OH! And Georgia FINALLY has an opener schedules.. its Oklahoma..... State

Go Dawgs.

Hopefully SC will take care of that Nov. 25 and put the Irish out of their overrated, vainglorious misery once and for all.jLp vAkEr0 wrote:ND jumps to 5.
Can't believe they're still a chance they could make it to the NC game.
Take care,

If the Michigan-OSU game is really close, it's going to suck that the loser will likely fall out of the national title race, even though said losing team could still be the second best team. It's not really fair that late-season losses seem to count more than early season ones.
I think the only way Rutgers has a shot at the title is:
--winning out (no easy task)
--USC beating Notre Dame but losing to Cal or UCLA
--Florida losing to FSU or the SEC championship game
Assuming Notre Dame beats Army, they would stay ahead of Rutgers with a win over USC. Same with USC and Flordia if they win out. The loser of Michigan-OSU will probably drop to 3-7, depending on the margin of victory.
The BCS still sucks, but it is adding quite a bit of drama to an already dramatic season.

Rutgers has an outside shot at the NC game, thin though it might be. I think they're "America's Team" right now for those of us whose programs aren't going to get a whiff at a championship this season. Getting thru WV unscathed is going to be rough, but if Rutgers' defense plays like they did against UL they have a good shot of running the table the rest of the way.Brando70 wrote:I think the only way Rutgers has a shot at the title is:

The USC / ND matchup has the biggest potential impact on how the BCS plays out, no doubt.
USC should be able to take care of business against Cal and UCLA, but playing ND is unpredictable. If ND's defense shows up, things could get interesting. Admittedly, the Irish D would have to not only show up, but also play their best game this season. That offense can hang 40-50 points on a team pretty easily.
Florida should pretty much mop the floor with FSU this year. As bad as things are going for UM this year, at least they didn't get shut out and blown out at home by Wake. Right now I'd favor USF to beat FSU - nevermind what the Gators will do to the Noles in a few weeks.
UF does have their work cut out for them in the SEC championship game no matter who they have to face. Almost every game this season between the SEC heavyweights this year has been a toss up.
This would be a tremendous birthday present for me! ND can suck it.pk500 wrote:Hopefully SC will take care of that Nov. 25 and put the Irish out of their overrated, vainglorious misery once and for all.

Though I hope USC loses to Cal or UCLA too - the false claims of back-to-back national championships is such crap. If you are part of the BCS, you live and die by that crappy system. USC won one, end of story.
Heh..."once and for all" for this season at least. Remember how those terrible Powlus QB'd, Davie coached ND squads would steal bowl slots away from more deserving programs in the mid to late 90's? At least they weren't playing for championships.pk500 wrote:Hopefully SC will take care of that Nov. 25 and put the Irish out of their overrated, vainglorious misery once and for all.jLp vAkEr0 wrote:ND jumps to 5.

Still, I think a good ND program is good for college football in general - just like how good Yankees, Lakers, Red Wings & Cowboys teams are good for their respective sports. Gotta have someone that's a universal s*** magnet outside of their hometown. Even the newer Star Wars movies sucked without a full-on evil Darth Vader.

Great point. Every sport needs heroes and villains.hellbent wrote:Still, I think a good ND program is good for college football in general - just like how good Yankees, Lakers, Red Wings & Cowboys teams are good for their respective sports. College football wouldn't be as much fun for me without ND and Penn State to hate, and the NHL would lose luster for me if I didn't have Calgary, Detroit, Anaheim, Dallas, Philly and New Jersey to despise.

Take care,

I hate everyone. I'm a bitter hardcore Celtics fan living off memories of the last championship won twenty years ago.bkrich83 wrote:LMAO.. Ok then.EZSnappin wrote:[

And I went to William & Mary, whose claim to fame while I was there was almost beating Virginia in basketball once.
So enjoy your asterix then championship then runner-up trifecta, plus whatever comes of this season. Closest thing to a dynasty in years and years.
And at least USC is not Notre Dame!

And what a farce it would be if ND made it to the title game over Michigan despite the Wolverines stripping the Irish bare Sept. 16. A total joke.EZSnappin wrote:And at least USC is not Notre Dame!
