Dave,
Spain!
You do realize that Spain is a 5 letter curse word often used by punters of previous World Cup's and European Championships. More money has been lost on them in the hope that this time, finally, in World Cup XX Spain will live up to their paper ability and go through to the final.
Hope you didn't plunk down too much on them! OTH, Raul may be injured so you might be onto something.
Best wishes,
Doug

It's all good Scoop, Jimmy and I usually do this over XBOX Live. Heck, he's even let me meet his wife and kids and watch soccer in his living room.ScoopBrady wrote:Easy there Jimmy. That comment about his wife was totally uncalled for. Knock off the s***.
Plus, I was purposely pushing his buttons.
Jimmy, let's get on Live later tonight...that is if your finshed competing in the Wankerlympics.

OK, back on topic:
Serbia versus the Flying Dutchmen tomorrow morning....some have picked Serbia as a darkhorse.
I say this ends 2-1 in the Netherlands favor with Mr. Ed Van Nistlerooy scoring a goal.
Mexico-Iran ends with a 2-1 Meixco win, Borgetti scores as well as Kikin Fonseca. The big question is if Osvaldo Sanchez makes it back to Germany after his father's death.
Portugal doesn't make the same mistakes 4 years ago and comes away with a 2-0 win against Angola....C Ronaldo scoring 1 in the win.

Unfortunately, I'd plunked my money down before realising that their mad coach had decided that Baraja wasn't good enough to go, and that he felt that Raul was the form strikerdougb wrote:Dave,

Still, at least this time Canizares hasn't had to drop out. In 2002, I had money on them when the stupid mad-eyed sod cut his foot open on a bottle of after shave that he'd just dropped.
"The players come from all over the world, the money from deep underneath the Persian Gulf, but, as another, older City poster campaign put it, this is their city. They may now exist in the global spotlight, but they intend to keep it that way."
Dave,
You'll be happy to know that the Spanish players have been banned from taking mid-afternoon siestas. That should make them a little more effective in their afternoon games then
OTH, at least things aren't as bad as they are in the Togo camp. Players are on strike over bonus demands and haven't attended their last 3 practices - in response to which their manager has walked out on team.

I am thinking about locking myself away at work all afternoon so no one can talk to me. I would freak out if someone spoils this game for me that I have been dying to see for months.RobVarak wrote:OK, I've been excited about the US-Czech game for awhile, but after seeing the FSC preview I don't think I'm going to be able to sit down until it's over. I personally think the US MUST get at least a draw here. I just can't see them getting points of Italy, so a loss to Czech would be fatal. Fortunately I like the way the US's speed matches up against the relatively slow Czech defense.
GO USA!!!
Well I don't like how Bruce Arena and the rest are overlooking Ghana. I think the US needs to get atleast 3 points out of the first two games. In all honesty I think tomorrow's game is a must win. If they lose or draw, it will put all the pressure on the US to beat Ghana. I think if the US only has a point in hand by the time they get to Ghana, they won't get out of the group.
I think most are writing over the Italy game as a loss. Tough, tough game tomorrow. The US need a win, plain and simple. If they want to "go to the next level" that can't limp into the 2nd.

Aren't Italy and CR both capable of getting 6 points from the games other than their direct matchup?
Even 4 points for the US (assuming 1 for a draw with either CR or Italy and 3 for a win against Ghana) may not be enough.
Who knows, maybe Italy without Totti in top form plays like England did without Rooney.

Talks about why soccer hasn't taken off in America, despite the popularity of AYSO.
Reasons include how soccer was considered communist and the prevalence of flopping.
But some American writers have embraced the sport:

Meanwhile, why do all those Brazilians go by one name?
