It's funny, when they released this few weeks ago, "the web" kind of jumped on it for being a 'summerteeth throwback'. I wouldn't mind a "weird" wilco album again. Pitchfork had some youtube's of them doing a few other new songs live, & they sounded cool as well.pk500 wrote:New Wilco track, "I Might." I'm digging it, as John Stirratt's bass is pumped up!

No one can say this band doesn't take chances with its sound.

FYI, the pitchfork festival is streaming live all weekend. Highlights are GBV (today), Fleet Foxes (Sat), and Ariel Pink (Sun).

Well for me the highlight was most definitely Animal Collective. Holy sh*t! I'm a fan already but had never seen them live. I'm pretty sure it was a 'you had to be there' affair but wow. There was a serious energy going on and it was electric. I was more than impressed.greggsand wrote:FYI, the pitchfork festival is streaming live all weekend. GBV were fun but not as exciting as I'd hoped. Battles was the 2nd highlight for me.
It was an absolutely beautiful night in Chicago and the headliners turned that little spot in the city into one crazy a$$ psychedelic rave.

Re: OT: New Music?
Can I just save time and name "Circuital" by My Morning Jacket as my album of the year, even though it's only July?
Lord, I haven't listened to a new record this much in forever. This is a special album.

Diggin' the new Mariachi el Bronx. Heard them on NPR last week and their new album was just released Tuesday. They are actually the punk band The Bronx but did some mariachi a few years ago and they really enjoyed it. The tunes are true to the mariachi genre and not bad for a bunch of gringos. At least I can understand the lyrics!

I'm a bit more into mariachi than is healthy, and this s*** is not bad. The singer is flat, really flat, way too much, but the passion is there and the lyrics work (which is much harder and important anyway).

The new Jay-Z & Kanye album is actually fantastic. Man, these collaboration albums are fire...Eminem and Royce 5'9 did one as well and it's ridiculously good too. Love it when the heavyweights get together.

If you have Spotify, search and listen to the new EP from Gary Clark Jr., "The Bright Lights EP."
This guy is a borderline local legend in Austin and broke out last year by playing with Clapton and Sheryl Crow at the Crossroads Festival. I saw him live last Friday, warming up for Robert Randolph & the Family Band in Utica, N.Y. Fantastic show by both bands!
Clark is one of the most exciting, talented young true blues players I've heard in a while.

Listening to the new Handsome Furs "Sound Kapital" and really digging how they went a little more "electronic" this time out.

It's not new music, but been spinning my reggae collection lately and I've been reminded of just how great Peter Tosh's "Legalize It" album is. If you're even a moderate fan of reggae and haven't heard it, do yourself the favor of giving it a listen before summer ends.

Agreed. Pac Man can fight a hell of a lot better than he can sing.bulls23 wrote:Manny Paciquao making the top 10 AC Chart? With this, Justin Bieber crap, and Rebecca Black making ya want to puke, Music's went to s***!

He actually has a decent singing voice that is being hampered by his accent. I would like to hear him sing in his native language. But only once.

At least Manny can give De La Hoya a good run in the vocal chords department

Re: OT: New Music?
I know there aren't tons of doom metal fans on here, but the latest from YOB came out this week and it is astounding. Here's the opener, "Prepare The Ground" from Atma; you'll know pretty quickly if it's your thing or not:

That's pretty cool, EZ. Love the opening. Not sure about the vocals but I am going to check them out.EZSnappin wrote:I know there aren't tons of doom metal fans on here, but the latest from YOB came out this week and it is astounding. I have been playing The Big Roar by The Joy Formidable a lot. Welsh trio with a female vocalist who write BIG sounding songs with a 90s flair -- bits of My Bloody Valentine, Disintegration-era Cure, Arcade Fire, Jesus and Mary Chain thrown together into songs that often manage to be intimate and towering at the same time. The first half of the album in particular is fantastic, and I have been playing their song "Whirring" to death:

They have an awesome burger named after them at Kuma's Corner!
