Re: NFL Season 2011-2012
WE didn't hear about it. Goodell told the Saints...they said it was done, then they covered it up. Hence, the punishment. It's not like they just got caught and these are the punishments. Goodell has warned them and they continued to carry on.Lancer wrote:the moniker is used all over the net, just ask any steelers fans. I didnt know it was exposed in 2009. First I'm hearing of it.
Re: NFL Season 2011-2012
Exactly. You have to consider the ramifications of something like this, Lancer. It's not just Goodell coming down as a hardass because he can. It's because he found somebody stupid and/or arrogant enough to get caught doing it.
Rumors of this type of behavior have been around for years. Hell, for me it explains the Raiders' lack of discipline on defense for the past 20 years. Late hits, egregious blows well after the whistle, etc. Every team probably does something similar. But it's the Saints' total arrogance to not only deny it, but to keep doing it for years after being warned that they were under investigation!!
When somebody does that, then the decision that comes down is a watershed moment in the history of the league. Whether fans agree with it or not, any commissioner would have to send a strong message to not only ensure that nothing like this continues, but that it acts as a sort of PR move to casual observers. The NFL took a big hit when it comes to integrity in the eyes of casual fans. Something like this makes fans like my mom and other people satisfied that the league is going to crack down on this. She went so far as to say that people should be held CRIMINALLY responsible.
So the commissioner has to come down with such severe punishment that any future offender would have to be completely idiotic or have a career death wish to do and/or endorse it. The fact that every team's owner had to sit down with the coach and submit a signed affidavit that the practices no longer continue is the proof. This was a league-wide salvo across the bow for every team in the league.
And when it comes to teams, the guy in charge knows what the hell is going on. Through interviews and other facts the interview turned up, Payton deliberately tried to cover it up, telling subordinates to get their ducks in a row, etc etc.
For that reason, the guy in charge always gets the big hammer. Nothing wrong with what Goodell did here.

Re: NFL Season 2011-2012
ok, since I have most of the story now, it sounds legit. If payton didnt stop this s*** then he's to blame. I just saw on ESPN some of the hits the Saints D was putting on people and they all looked like they wanted to hurt players. Maybe ESPN just picked out the worst hits.
As for Tebow, I hope he lands on the Rams or Jags. so is Bradford done for his career?

None of the story, yet you went on that huge rant about "GODdell" and whatnot?
Man...I have no idea what it's like in your world, but I don't want to visit.

Didnt he get hurt last year all year? Was it career ending? I'm not up on the Rams except for the DSP posters.

Tebow gets to choose between Jets and Jags.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Really? He should pick the Jags. He's said how he misses Florida and wants to go back home. He'd be playing in Gator Country again.
Re: NFL Season 2011-2012
Reports there's a 5 million payment clause in the contract with Tebow. Unless Denver waives that he's not going anywhere or getting cut. Looks like Denver is also trying to get money. If they do, Elway is looking like the brightest kid in the room. Guess his Stanford degree is paying off if he can also get money for Tebow.

Thanks for the update but it's already official.JRod wrote:Reports there's a 5 million payment clause in the contract with Tebow. Unless Denver waives that he's not going anywhere or getting cut. Re: NFL Season 2011-2012
ugh...the Jets. From starting NFL QB to team pastor. sucks....even though I know he'll say the right things.
Re: NFL Season 2011-2012
I guess he saw two QB's in front of him in JAX. In NY he'll get weaned into Wildcat plays. I think given the Sanchez performances the last 2 years he's probably a lot closer to playing a lot more in NY than he would in JAX.

Brando70 wrote:Maybe the Broncos have some other tricks up their sleeve, but Manning alone won't be enough to get that team to the SB. Poor receivers, an aging McGahee who's coming up on the RB age cliff, and a defense that was very uneven last year. Probably enough to win the AFC West. Highly unlikely to be enough to win in Foxboro, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, or Houston come playoff time.
And I just have to write it: David GerrardThat's like getting socks for Christmas.
There have been about a half dozen QBs who were headed to the HoF and/or won SBs who left their original teams.
None of them won a SB with their second teams. Curt Warner went to the SB with the Cardinals but lost a close game.
Re: NFL Season 2011-2012
Elway better hope Manning doesn't break or go down again with a serious injury. If that happens I wonder if the fans will turn on Elway?
Re: NFL Season 2011-2012
Tebow fans might. But it sounds like they're more fans of Tebow than the team.
This bounty case reminds me of the Falcons being accused of holding up players while other players speared them when Glanville was coach.

Re: NFL Season 2011-2012
This article is right, he should have picked JAX. It's almost the complete opposite of what he will face in NYC.

Which one dies first?
My money is own Tebowmania -- for a lot of reasons. Mainly this: Jets fans, who have come to despise incumbent quarterback Mark Sanchez, will realize how good Sanchez looks compared to Tebow.
Tebow makes Sanchez look like Joe Namath in his prime.
When I think about Tebow in New York, I get giddy about all the potential scenes to come. Among them:
• Tebow's face the first time coach Rex Ryan goes on an F-bomb-laced tirade.
• Tebow meeting the wonderful locker-room presence that is Santonio Holmes.
• Tebow telling Sanchez he doesn't like the nightlife and prefers to stay home and play Monopoly.
• Jets corner Antonio Cromartie, explaining to Tebow exactly why he didn't want him as a teammate.
• Jets fans cursing him for not beating out Sanchez.
For those of you who say Tebow is a winner, therefore he will play, Sanchez has been to two AFC Championship Games. Top that.

I will say this in Lancer's defense, he is in good company. Drew Brees tweeted this yesterday:

I guess no one except for XXXIV watches the NFL Network.I am speechless. Sean Payton is a great man, coach, and mentor. The best there is. I need to hear an explanation for this punishment

He is in CYA mode he has been playing the "I knew nothing about it" card for a month now (Brees) and that is absolute horseshit. It's not possible for that to be going on and for every player not to know. Any player will tell you that.Brando70 wrote:I will say this in Lancer's defense, he is in good company.
