Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I am number 25! So I spent my morning initiating myself, you know, walking around the kitchen with a grape between my butt cheeks praying it didn't fall out, shaving one eyebrow, kicking myself in the groin, and now I'm ready.
So are we back to using our CAG golfers now for the weekly? Just want to be sure.
If nothing else I will be the Rodney Dangerfield of the DSP club. Poor swing, poor scores, but always offensive and obnoxious!

I agree that the putt preview feels too precise, however a third option is to keep the grids off and put the caddie on. It's less precise than the putt preview, and not always 100% accurate. I thought the one tourney we did with that setting (I think by accident), felt kind of real in that you have to make a read without the grid, but you get a second opinion to prevent you from getting it completely wrong.
I'm pretty flexible though.

I seemed to putt better with the preview on.
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
New method absolutely cost me a couple of strokes on the green, including a double on the first hole. Like Cauthen, I don't use a traditional putting method, so the preview line very rarely aligned with how my balls actually travelled. If I were to guess, my score would have been 2-3 shots lower with the grid, or better if like he suggested, I practiced the new way before hitting the links.
I think the pros DID tighten up the scoring, so I'm all for using them on occasion.
On the greens, I'm actually okay with whatever, or even continuing to switch the method around.

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
So every round I have played up until joining the club, which haven't been many, have been played on Pro difficulty, with swing meter, putt meter and green grids on. And I sucked with all those aids! Went into the daily and played it twice this morning, +7 both tries. Considering what I have been playing I'm breathing easy I got out of there still in the 70's!
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I feel like the caddy is broke this year, on a 10 foot putt the aiming cursor will at times be 20 feet or more past the hole and if you would use that for reference you'd hit it off the green. Last year the caddy would start off with bad advice and get better as you mastered courses but that hasn't been the case at all for me this year so I quit using it, I only use the green grids in all modes I play now.Naples39 wrote:I agree that the putt preview feels too precise, however a third option is to keep the grids off and put the caddie on.

Yeah, I am not a fan of the caddie, after last years's experience I never went back to him in 13. I think it's more bad advices than a broken system.vader29 wrote:I feel like the caddy is broke this year, on a 10 foot putt the aiming cursor will at times be 20 feet or more past the hole and if you would use that for reference you'd hit it off the green. Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
Well we we stick with what we have then if that's what everyone prefers.
I don't see how it is possible to play with nothing. There is no way to read the green in any consistent way without some kind of aid. Putting is a strength in my RL golf game and I can read a green really well but with everything off in Tiger it's just a guess by looking at the slope etc. I don't find the time it adds to my round to make it more enjoyable.
I don't know if it was all playing with the same pro or the putt preview that seemed to make things closer. My guess it was the same pro using the same attributes but I understand people want to play with their cag's. The only real way to tell would be to do a weekly with a single pro but we will stick with what we have.
I really wish there was an option to just give everyone X number of attribute points at the start and build you8r golfer and then the only improvements were from equipment at least for the OCC stuff.

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I remember on opening week of the DSP CC, that we encounter the same issue where randoms would jump in under the lobby menu. Perhaps going to Xbox Live fir H2H is a solution, and also what I did last night with Leadfoot is to create your match first and then invite your friend or ask him to search for a tournament level right after your creation, (you may still see the randoms browsing but they eventually turtle away) and once he found me, we went ahead and played. Agreed that the matching is flawed though.J_Cauthen wrote:DSPCC Head to Head Achievement Drive
I created and launched the game from the DSPCC lobby, but oddly enough, before Mark could join the match, I'd have a random jump in and be ready to play. This happened three times over the course the two matches I set up. For one thing, it was ironic that three randoms actually wanted to play a matchplay match in Tournament difficulty!? It pointed out ridiculous this flaw is in EA's matchmaking in the Tiger Woods games. Why can't we create private matches in our club's own head-to-head lobby for Pete's sake?
I think a possible solution to this problem is to create a private room in the XBox Live lobby, where only people on one's friend's list can get in. If you create a game from one of these private rooms on the XBox Live main lobby, is the game truly only open to being joined by those on your Friend's list? I'd like to try this tomorrow night and see if we can get some more DSP'ers in there for some Head-to-Head matches if anyone is up for it.
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
The fact that the caddie's advice is inconsistent and it's only a reference, not a sure thing, is what makes it interesting to me. It's like playing with someone IRL who says what they think the putt will do, but it doesn't mean they're right and the final decision is yours. But if no one else likes it...10spro wrote:Yeah, I am not a fan of the caddie, after last years's experience I never went back to him in 13. I froze twice trying to get the daily in. That was a first time for me. Paul Casey has it out for me.
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I agree with the caddy only being used as a reference. Personally I was not a fan of having putt preview enabled and would rather go back to using the grid over it. I'm all for trying the grids off + caddy just to see how it works out for a tourney.

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I enjoyed this round with Paul Casey and the Putt Preview, which enabled me to shoot an Even par. It was definitely easier for me, but mainly because my CAG is still so low. I did feel a little like I was putting in a junk round since none of my efforts were going to more XP for my CAG. The biggest difference I saw in using the Pro was my ability to get out of trouble. I had several holes where I was in bunkers and/or in the rough that I was still able to pull off par. With my CAG it would have been double bogey or worse. Overall I am really enjoying the DSP CC, I just hope that this week I can actually complete the weekly without the freeze bug. I have had three failed attempts at completing a weekly so far. Even with the second submission, it has not yet been enough to get me through 4 rounds.
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday on this Don. I haven't actually haven't used any boost pins other than XP multiplier enough to answer your question with any certainty. I do recall hitting some nice shots out of heavy rough using the Hybrid boost with my 3-hybrid. As it stands right now, the only boost I use in career mode is XP multiplier.DChaps wrote:I still don't completely understand how the boost pins are supposed to work. In career mode I applied the XP multiplier which I do understand, as well as the overall attribute boost. It says +15 to all attributes, so I assume that means if my current CAG power is 50, this boost would be as if my power was 65 for the round? If so, I just did not see it. I had been to the point where I was finally driving consistently at around 250. For the round I had this boost applied I could barely drive 225 if I was lucky. Did not seem like it boosted anything. My putting was more terrible as well. What do the specific player and course boosts do? Does it make the course easier? Is it just for certain holes or the entire course?
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
This is a good example of what competitive attributes can do for fledgling CAGs. Just think of how much more you would have gotten out of this round had it been your CAG you used to achieve it? I say keep playing career mode with the XP multiplier in effect in your free time. You'll eventually get to this level.DChaps wrote:I enjoyed this round with Paul Casey and the Putt Preview, which enabled me to shoot an Even par. As for your other comments about disconnects still affecting your ability to post scores, I'd like to ask all the DSPCC members if we need to increase the number of tries to 3, or possibly 4? I think we're an honest bunch of gamers and don't see where there's a threat of it being abused. Having read your's and Orthostud23's diconnect issues of the last two days, we may have grounds to extend the number of tries.
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I'm all for upping the attempt count and relying on integrity as far as posting scores is concerned. 1 shot, 1 kill unless you get disconnected. The opportunities to start over in the case of a disconnect or freeze the better IMO.

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
Hey Tim, sorry to quote such an old post, but I was reading back through the thread today to find some info and I stumbled upon your first impressions post. I tried to read through everything, but did not see that I ever found out the answers to the items I have highlighted in red below? Do you remember what the cool features with the Legacy mode were, and what the surprise EA had up their sleeve was? Just being curious.
Also, do you have any contact with the Devs to know if there will be an attempt to try to make Kinect work better in Tournament mode? It seemed like early on we were all pretty exctied about what we were experiencing with Kinect, but it went downhill pretty fast.

DivotMaker wrote:I am currently in Orlando on business and EA was kind enough to let me come out and see the game today. I had a very short time with the game, but here are some of my impressions:
The game is drop-dead gorgeous. The lighting and textures were amazing along with the dynamic weather. The trees animated beautifulloy and VERY realistically. I played 18 holes on PGA National on Tournament difficulty (sorry about that AM users).
The new swing mechanic is all it is cracked up to be and I can tell you that scoring will be challenging on Tournament mode, especially with the strike meter needing to be manipulated during the swing. I had several shots from the rough that I must have taken a yard of turf with me when I hit the shot as they only went about 25% of the distance they should have. Shot a +10 for 18 holes.
The swing was great and after playing a couple of holes with the meter on, I turned it off and the swing felt even more intuitive, especially while putting. There are 5-6 new cameras at address which should help when playing in the trees.
JCauthen....yes, TrueAim is back for TW13 and as far as I could tell, it was just like TW11. Did not have alot of time to compare with 11, but it felt so right. Another goodie.....1st Person perspective is in for Kinect. More on that later.
Played a few holes using Kinect and it felt pretty good, but the Kinect I was using was not calibrated properly, so there were some issues with it that I have been assured are not in the final build. The 5-6 shots I did hit (using Tournament mode) felt great and I was all over the course, but my swing caused this from what I could tell. I hit one helluva recovery shot from the pine straw in the woods at Augusta #2 the par 5 and actually made par.
Saw a few minutes of Tiger Legacy mode and it really is there to try to draw new users into the game and they have some cool features with it that can extend to the rest of the game (more on that later once the NDA is lifted).
Spent some time with Christian Brandt (TW Dev) seeing the Online Country Club interface and it is going to blow many online users away with the depth of this feature. OMG, the stats....wow! Also got to see the AN Practice Facility and after playing the game I can tell you this is where I am going to be spending a great deal of my time learning how to hit the ball in Tournament mode with Kinect and with the wireless controller.
Unfortunately I did not have time to explore Career Mode so I am not sure exactly what to expect with that, but EA has done some tuning and updating to make the CM play more like a PGA TOUR career with the course assets and other things. Still not sure if you can move courses around in the schedule though.
My overall impression (taking the short time I had playing the game into prespective) is very positive and they have spent a great deal of time bringing new features that the community has asked for. They are listening and will be listening intently to the feedback for TW13. Can't wait to see the demo and spend some time with Kinect and the 1st person view. Not sure how many questions I can answer, but I will do my best. They also have a surprise up their sleeve that I think many here will enjoy and appreciate, but I am under strict orders not to discuss it here.
Best Regards,
Tim
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I think I am the only one that is experiencing them so frequently. It seems to have gotten better since the patch and there have been some rounds where I have not experienced it at all. I would say don't change it on my account, although I appreciate the consideration.J_Cauthen wrote:As for your other comments about disconnects still affecting your ability to post scores, I'd like to ask all the DSPCC members if we need to increase the number of tries to 3, or possibly 4? Before 10 finishes his round, i want to brag that i'm in first place in today's daily! Of course, I'm the only one so far.
As usual, a bit over the map with putting and approaches. I took a triple at one point, all putting.
My highlight though was missing an ace on 14 by about 2 inches, and then getting an eagle on the next hole after hitting my 2nd from way right in the rough. I think I caught a flyer lie.

DChaps,
I have played the Legacy mode for all of about 30 minutes. I have no interest in the feature and I forgot some of what I was told at Tiburon. One of the features I think I remember was that once you completed Legacy mode, you could play any part of the game (except CM) with all the different versions of Tiger from toddler to today's Tiger which you can already do.
The surprise I mentioned was the bonus course included if you downloaded the 11 pack of DLC courses and/or completed Course Mastery for all courses.
Wish I could remember more, but I have slept since then.....
I damn near shredded my TW13 DVD today....I have completely lost all confidence in all parts of my game. Can't hit a drive in the fairway, can't get an approach inside 25', and can't make a putt to save my life. It has been a horrible 3 days since returning from Napa this weekend. I was playing Crooked Stick on the Daily Tournament mode Live tournament and had a pathetic -1. 42% FIR, 44% GIR, and 30 putts. I changed controllers on the last 2 holes and started hitting it better finishing up with 2 birds....that is the worst I have played TW in probably 10 years. Hope I get my mojo back soon....

Slick undulated greens today just killed me at Birkdale.
