No he hasn't as I have not responded to him because i need to think about it for a bit. That is a really large trade with lots of implications, you guys are talking about moving a half dozen players each which NEVER happens in the NFL.

So I need to think on it and if I want to let something like that go through. THESE types of things are why i wanted to board to help me with these things but since everyone said they don't want to be on the board I need to think on it.

I will let you guys know tomorrow before the draft.

I understand.

We tried to balance it out and improve both teams. I think he's going to be much better for it, and I'm moving towards my goal of creating a power running attack + better offensive line.

Btw - anyone else interested in a trade? I'd like to make another move or two before the draft if possible. Highly skilled TE and LBers are on my wish-list. I'd be looking to trade draft picks to make it happen, but nothing is off limits.

Dan,

Thanks of taking your time considering this proposed deal we cooked up. . .

I definitley agree that it is unusual, but one of the main reasons we don't see large trades in the NFL is the salary cap and bonus implications. . .if there's no CBA in the real NFL by the end of this year, the 2010 season won't have a cap and without the CBA there will be restrictions on free agents (players will need six years of service to be unrestricted), so I really think we may see more trades with more players involved than we normally see today. . .

So if anything, we're trend setters!!! Blazing the trail for real NFL GM's :)

Thanks

After much consideration I am letting your initial trade go through. While I want to stay true to the NFL, I think as long as one team isn't intentionally trying to make another team better then I really can't see an issue.

My fears with allowing this trade were just that, someone in one of your divisions thinking there was some conclusion going on. But as is so often pointed out to me, I have no rule regarding trade limits only that they all need to be approved by me.

Please post the deal you sent to me via Pm here and be careful how you do this in game. It seems to me right now the gamei s letting you drop players but not pick any up. I have no idea if the trade option will work at this stage (ie right before the rookie draft) so be careful with what you guys do.

The Donovan McNabb Era Begins in Tennessee

Post by tmdba37 »

Dan,

Thanks, I appreciate your time spent thinking about this and your final approval of this trade. Per your initial concern, since eman and I don't know each other and have never talked before this trade negotiation, clearly there couldn't be any collusion. . .
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a never-seen blockbuster move the Philadelphia Eagles and the Tennessee Titans hook up for a blockbuster 12-player deal usually only seen in the NBA and not the NFL. . .going to the Titans are the following players:

CB Asante Samuel
RB Brian Westbrook
QB Donovan McNabb
C Jamaal Jackson
FS Quintin Demps
ROLB Akeem Jordan

Going back to the Eagles are:

LT Michael Roos
FS Michael Griffin
ROLB Keith Bulluck
C Kevin Mawae
RB LenDale White
QB Kerry Collins

The Titans will be holding a press conference on Wednesday Afternoon to introduce their new Quarterback and their Draft Picks at 3pm CST at LP Field. Coach Doyle is excited to work with his new QB and promises a even more dynamic offense with Chris Johnson and Brian Westbrook playing in the backfield nearly 50% of the time. . .he was quoted as saying "I think this is going to be a lot of fun. . .plus we named our son after Donovan McNabb it will great to coach him to the SuperBowl!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dan, I'll try to trade one guy tonight perhaps Collins for Jordan to see if that works. . .if not, we should probably wait until after the draft. . .

EDIT: We will not be able to initiate this trade until we get to week one. . .

Thanks again
-Todd

Woah, woah, woah. Both Zep and I stated that we saw no reason for us to be on the board if you didn't want to discuss rules not that we didn't want to be on the board. There's a big difference between the two. And if I'm being honest there's no way I would have supported that trade.

Given that there are no standing rules on trades, I don't see an obvious basis for denying it anyway.

Personally, I think if people want to trade for draft picks in a league that of uncertain duration they should do so at their own risk. :)

The draft is tomorrow night starting at 8:30 CT

I will create a Live Party at around 8:20 for people to join if they wish. For those of you doing it via the web, I am starting promptly at 8:30, I really can't think of a way to communicate with you so good luck.

If you're not attending then I strongly suggest you get your draft board in place, hopefully it will be useful despite some reports.

There is NO trading of future draft picks and if you trade picks in this draft you better ensure that you and the other person will select the correct person for each other. I would highly discourage trading picks but if you do be prepared.

Bottom line here is I highly doubt this will go smooth, it's a game so chill and relax.

So now it is looking like I should be able to make the draft tonight. I'm looking forward to it.

As to the trade, since Scoop decided to chime in with his two cents, I don't mind saying that I see nothing wrong with it at all. If two owners want to trade players, that's fine. As long as it isn't something that is late in the season and is obviously trying to help someone get stacked for the playoff run or something, what's there not to like? You've got two owners trying to mold their teams to their style, trying to improve their teams with a mutually beneficial trade. Where's the problem? And for the record, it's a 12 player deal, not a 6 player deal. In any case, I think it's about time we saw some trades in this franchise.

As to trades of draft picks, my sense is that the 1-minute time limit on picks during the draft will make it too difficult to pull off draft pick trades. 1-minute is just not enough to make sure you are communicating clearly and all that. Maybe in future seasons we can give it a shot, but for this first draft it doesn't make much sense.

Finally I am still unclear on the Madden franchise roster limit number. I think I have 48 players on my roster right now, and I remember someone mentioning 55 being the limit rather than 53. Does anyone know for sure? I suppose if my last two draft picks don't 'take' then I can sign them off the FA list later, but it would be better for it all to be taken care of smoothly in the draft itself. Does anyone know the number?

I'm 99% positive it is 55, I was carrying 54 at one point and someone else had 55 I think.

As for trades, i don't allow them after week 6 of the season.

I certainly don't want to be thought of as a drama queen but that ship has probably long since sailed. So, since I never explained why I wasn't in favor of the trade I will now. You never see trades of this magnitude in the NFL and I joined the league for the comraderie of my DSP brethren as well as the fact that we all pretty much like a sim-style experience. I don't like seeing one-tenth of two teams rosters change place. That draws away from the experience for me. I would have preferred just having a fantasy draft to start the season to mold our teams rather than 12-player deals. I know I'm the only one in the league feeling this way and I accept that. But as such, this is where I'm at right now; I had a blast actually playing the games during the first season but I've been miserable with all of the offseason stuff. I'll let you all know right now that I will not be participating in the draft.

That's not fair for the league to have an owner who isn't 100% into it. How does the league feel about having an owner who has no interest in the draft but will be there 100% for the season? If you guys don't have a problem with that then I'd like to stay in the franchise. If you guys do have a problem with that then I'll gracefully bow out with no hard feelings.

Damn, I fell asleep somewhere. I thought it was an 8:00 Central start. Won't be there at 7:30. Hope the board works.

Not participating in the rookie draft is one thing as the game will draft for you, but not participating in the FA draft now that the players have been released puts more work on me if you drop and if you don't drop could hurt your team.

I think he's saying 8:30 CST - not 8:30 EST - so half an hour after the original start time. No? I think you'll be able to make it, at least I hope so.

I've got no problems if you're not interested in the draft. You've just decided to hire the AI as your GM. :)

As for trades, I'm fine with it. As there is no salary cap, nor a "real" FA setup, I don't have any problems with big trades. As long as there isn't team dumping, I'm fine with that.

After the draft, I'll be happy to consider any trades that people want to make. :)

And, I'll actually be able to make the draft (thought I was going to be away, but I'm not). Looking forward to it.

Also, (and again, my apologies if I missed it), what will our draft order be for the FA draft? My vote is for randomizing the teams, and then doing a snake draft...but if the decision has been made, then my vote is for the status quo.

So, how does it work if I can't make I tonight? I have 12 or so players in my draft profile on the web site, but if they're taken and whatnot the CPU will draft for me? How many players should I pop in there? And will we be down to the guys with ratings in the 50's by the last round? I don't really feel like trawling through the bottom of the field to target those late rounders. Hopefully the CPU can do me proud.

Scoop,

Personally, I'd prefer you stick around. . . the idea of sacking CPU Peyton Manning has no joy in it whatsoever. . .

I have absolutely no problem with you being against the trade as I also agree it's a bit out there, but you also have to realize that without contracts, the salary cap and true free agency, we're probably only going to be able to make major changes to our teams via trade. . .

I got the sense from eman that he didn't like the way his team was constructed and I certainly felt I had some holes with the Titans so this deal really helped to fill those holes--holes that if we were using the same interface as the offline franchise, that we'd probably be able to do via free agency and other more traditional NFL methods. . .

. . .and one other thing, speaking of trades. . .didn't you just technically trade your entire franchise for another one? :)

I would recommend either ranking the position(s) you want or try to rank a top 32. . .the crazy thing about this draft is that we have 16+ random elements with the CPU teams and who knows who/how the CPU will draft for them or the folks who are unable to make it. . .

If you only have 12 guys on your draft board you better hope the cpu does a good job. It will draft for you if you're not there supposedly off your board then by whatever logic EA uses.

I have 60+ people on my board and I am going to attend, I don't think people realize how fast a minute is. I have a list of positions I want to fill and can look at my draft board and see who is left.

I'm an emotional b*tch. I'll get that out of the way up front.

I really don't like all the complaining over the simplest of things, but I was definitely being an emotional p*ssy in withdrawing without giving it some time.

Especially after eman's promises of going 16-0 and kicking my ass, I'm intrigued.

I'm not in any leagues at the moment, but this is the only one I miss.
