I've seen The Morning Benders on a bunch of lists on various blogs. I have to admit, I like them but I also think it could make me quite gay. Maybe I'm just getting old.

Mogwai's upcoming album, "Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will," is ridiculously good from start to finish.

If you're into mellow, down-tempo electronica, Four Tet's recent release, "There Is Love In You," is a terrific record. I'm really digging this album.

Re: OT: New Music?
I'm really enjoying the upcoming album by Silent Stream of Godless Elegy (out in Europe now, stateside Feb 8th). They are a Czech folk metal band, mixing violins with clean female vocals, growly male ones, and solid riffs. Have no idea what they're saying or anything, but the sound is intriguing. Haven't quite heard this mix of styles before, and though the songs are almost all too long it's one of the best things I've heard from this new year.
Re: OT: New Music?
fun little pre-beta thing up - Listening Room. You can set up groups and upload mp3s which stream to all the people in the group. It's definitely buggy, but when it is working it's pretty cool. I decided to start one for the day if anyone cares to join.

And it crashes as soon as I mention it. Still, a good idea if they can get it working.

Re: OT: New Music?
Hey, it's only February 2011, but I've finally listened to a backlog of releases from late 2010. Here are my top 10 albums from 2010, in order:
1. "Before Today" -- Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti
2. "Halcyon Digest" -- Deerhunter
3. "The Lady Killer" -- Cee Lo Green
4. "The Monitor" -- Titus Andronicus
5. "Strange Weather, Isn't It?" -- !!!
6. "Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros" -- Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros
7. "Brothers" -- The Black Keys
8. "Innerspeaker" -- Tame Impala
9. "The Sea" -- Corinne Bailey Rae
10. "We Walk This Road" -- Robert Randolph & The Family Band
Single of 2010: "When I'm Alone," Lissie. (Yes, I'm serious! A perfect pop single by a chick who does a decent job channeling Stevie Nicks in this catchy tune.)
Tardiness is next to cleanliness and Godliness for me.

Wise man with the Ariel Pink choice! (google Ariel on Fallon for some real wackiness).
I thought this was pretty cool:

Are those the same kids who did the phenomenal job singing "Lisztomania" by Phoenix last year?

Re: OT: New Music?
Yeah. If you go to the actual youtube page, you'll see the 6+ other songs they've done. I'd rather sit through my kid singing Phoenix, Radiohead, and Ariel Pink than 'Frosty the Snowman' at the school pageant. Cool stuff.pk500 wrote:Are those the same kids who did the phenomenal job singing "Lisztomania" by Phoenix last year?

Re: OT: New Music?
Do that, fellas. I'm not a music critic so I won't attempt to review it, critique it, compare track 7 to a pomegranate or whatever it is you're meant to do, but I've listened to it tonight and I'll be listening tomorrow on the way to work. Then again on the way home. I think I might even be a little bit in love with the chorus to Same Sad Story.Slumberland wrote:I made a synth-rock-prog-pop album. It's free... give it a spin!

Cold hands has a very mates of state feel to it, very cool gonna download it too.
Re: OT: New Music?
Slumber, I just played Sex Griddle and really dig it! You did a great job pulling all those prog, rock, new wave, and indie influences together. You have a nice balance between the guitars and the synths in the mix in a way that reminds me of The Killers. There's also a nice catchy/confessional aspect like The Postal Service had. Good stuff and I will recommend it to my friends.

Thanks so much fellas... SO glad you've heard it!
And good catch, Jimmyd... I think I wrote Cold Hands after a year of listening to Team Boo and seeing if I could write a song in that vein for me and my wife to sing.

Re: OT: New Music?
Wow, Slumber. I really like your album. I listened to it 3 times today and I'm putting it on my Nano now.
Re: OT: New Music?
I'm with Leebo, I've played the album a few times and really enjoy it. I gave you a little shout-out on my blog today, too, Slumber:
