Rodster wrote:I've discovered a really good beer. After the Dolphins renamed the Stadium to Landshark Stadium, out of curiosity I tried the beer and it's freaking awesome.

It's the only American Lager or Beer that doesn't give me a headache. It has a mild beer taste like Corona but only better, actually much better. The beer has a good flavor range at different temperatures so it still tastes good if it's not cold.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread. :)
Had it about two weeks ago tailgating at the Phils/Pirates game. Very solid. I liked it a lot.

Beers with fruit flavors should be banned. If I wanted that, I could buy a Snapple.

I would be ecstatic if craft brewers never created summer brews. Just give me the heavy, dark, caramel, porter, stout, triple bock, IPA, uber-malt glory of winter beers 365 days per year, and I'm set.

Take care,
PK

Sorry overruled PK. :P

Those wheat ale's I described were simply amazing. The raspberry ale tasted more like champagne. I not into sweet drinks but those fruit flavored beers were amazing.

That's because PK lives in a place where it is winter 330 days out of the year.

True! We have two seasons in Central New York -- winter and July. :)

Hoegaarden is absolutely awesome on a hot day. For whatever reason I think Blue Moon is mediocre at best. I tried it after some people told me it was similar to Hoegaarden, but a lot cheaper. It did not do much for me.

I don't have the luxury of having a lot of microbrew options near me, so I have to go with the more widely available stuff. McEwans's Scotch Ale and Sam Adams Boston Ale are my go-to beers in the fall, winter, spring (Hoegaarden in the summer). Sam Adams Boston Ale is a great hockey beer since it is smooth and not too heavy, but still has a real good taste. McEwan's has a pretty high alcohol content and is thick, so I can't pound those down very fast, but it ranks as my favorite beverage. If I cannot find one of the above three, I usually settle for Newcastle Brown. The only problem with Newcastle is that it goes down so well and is so smooth that before I know it I've put down 9 or 10. Of course, that's helpful when watching the Magpies.

One of my favorite beers is called Dinkel Acker Dark. Mighty fine beer that tastes great at any temperature.

If anything good came from the InBev buyout of AB, it's that a lot of the InBev brands are in more stores these days. In Socal, finding Hoegarden was hit & miss, but now it's everywhere (draft & bottle). I love that stuff.

Also, when I was in Australia, a number of pubs carried numerous versions of Hoegarden. All were awesome. Speaking of Australia, they have a TON of great beers that never see the light the of day in America. good times...

Anyone got a good Belgian White? That's my latest beer kick.

I have tried:
Blue Moon (decent)
Hoegarden (really like it)
Shock Top (pretty good......especially if u are at a gas station)
Hoegaarden is the lord and master of that particular sub-group, mate. The only white beer I've had lately that's got anywhere close is Kronenbourg Blanc, a French effort, but it's got the dreaded fruity tint to it (a mild but noticeable citrus flavour) and it's practically impossible to find somewhere capable of serving me a pint of the stuff that isn't either flat, warm or both.

Jeesus, they must have been well hidden when I lived there, because most of the ones I had were utter shite, apart from Crown and VB at a pinch. The best description of Crown I heard from an Aussie was

"That's the batches of Fosters that work"

Other than that, there was loads of the abomination that is light beer, plus Hahn (awful, regardless of which one you had), Swan (which must have been water from that river in a can) and some other crud.

When I was Italy, there was a dark Hoegarden that was excellent. I'm not big on the white one.

Crazy talk. There is definitely a right way to do beers with fruit flavors, and when done right they're fantastic. Porters and IPA's are my two favorite styles, so I know where you're coming from, but there are a lot of great favor profiles available from incorporating fruit into beers.

Trust me, I've tried a lot of fruity beers by craft brewers, as my wife digs them. And I like none of them.

Fruit and beer do not mix in my mind.

Then again, some perspective: I'm a scotch drinker. I put flavored vodka in the same category as fruity beer. A total waste of time and money.

Take care,
PK

Ah VB... I miss that one. I found that the bigger pubs in Melbourne had a number of good beers. Some of the different Coopers were great (BevMo carries these now).

Speaking of VB, Foster has "Foster's Bitter" in the states which is a Canada-made VB-clone (in those dumb big ass cans). It's close, but no cigar.

I think you are correct sir. The others dont really compare. Hoegaarden it is!

I always thought it was weird how there are "summer beers". If you like something.....you like it. Does it matter what season it is? :)
