Yeah the scripted stuff sucks early on, but especially your first run through, you don't know any better and it's very immersive.
I'm the best player on the 76ers now, by far, at almost a 90 overall. Yet Eric Turner took me aside and asked me to be second fiddle to him as his sidekick. Trying to be a good team player, I said OK and the next game I kept passing him the ball and he wouldn't do jack with it. I took the game over, dropped 35, and we won. He confronted me after the game and I said "sure, I'll try next time".
Turns out next time was against the Knicks, which were something unGodly like 43-12. I had to force myself to pass the ball off, turned it over with bad passes, and we ended up losing by 3. It's the first time I've really been conflicted in a game before. I wanted to play "good little rookie" but it was tough to do when we ended up losing and breaking a long winning streak.
That kind of stuff never happened to me in other career mode games in other titles, so I can deal with the scripted stuff to have moments like that.

I just want to know if Earl Watson hates me so much for not wearing the clown nose, why does he continue to sit by me on the plane?
I agree. I've never been this much into a career mode. I'm a 45 year old man wasting my time ready fake tweets and even picking every NBA game just at the chance at some virtual crack

Re: NBA 2k14
Tired of losing with the Jazz, so I demanded a trade. My preferred teams (Knicks, Nets) had no interest. I chose one of those anyway and 2 teams that had high interest, which I figured should be playoff bound, the Pacers and Warriers. The next game with Utah we had a great close win against the Heat (got the Lebron talk afterwards). I'm thinking maybe we got some potential here and having some regrets, but we go on to get beaten badly in our next two games against weaker opponents. My bags are packed.
I ended up on the Pacers for a no name player and the 2014 1st and 2nd round draft picks. I should have checked the standings first as Pacers record was 7-17. Worse than the Jazz. Still I got a better chance to make the post season in the East. (I bet its not possible to get traded at this point to a top team as that would interfere with the scripted story)
Pacers starting 5 are Hibbert, Scola, Granger, Stevenson & Hill. I'm an SG, so Stevenson's days are numbered. Paul George has been injured.
Last game I finally nailed the last second game winning shot on my third chance. First time I missed. Second time I did not get the inbounds pass.

I suck at this game...I suck! I suck! I suck! I mean Im at the point I want to throw my controller through the friggin' tv!
I am playing on the PS4 and I get my butt kicked every game by 20 or more points, and this is on pro level!!!
I will admit I am not an expert gamer by any means, but I have played 2K hoops games for years and usually play at all-star level and can play pretty well. This game just destroys me. I am playing a season with the Pistons and can't win a damn game. My offense is fine, the problem is defense. I can't stop the CPU no matter what I do. James Harden just let me up for 41. Half the time I switch off and guard someone over in the corner who isnt doing anything and try to let my CPU players stop him. That doesn't work either.
Any advice?
Rick

I suck too. In MY TEAM, I have a record of 4-20. Most of my losses are blowouts as well. Game is really hard on PRO, especially the defensive side. I like the challenge but it does get really frustrating at times.icvu42 wrote:I suck at this game...I suck! I suck! I suck! Re: NBA 2k14
Set your tendencies to tight defense on the "star" players, and play off the ball as a center. That way you only have one person to guard, and you can assist with the rebounding. Make these changes at the beginning of the game in case you have to adjust. If someone is lighting you up, consider a double team. Also, be sure to call a timeout any time the other team starts to make a run. You've gotta find a way to slow down the momentum.
On offense, work the ball the around as if you're watching a college basketball game. It's too easy to get in the mindset of playing one on one. Pass the ball the around the perimeter, set some screens, drive and pass the ball back out to the open player on the perimeter. Don't try perfect passes with a player who's got a bad passer rating. Be smart, and take 75 percent of your shots with your star players (usually 2 or 3 on a team). You'll find that the role players will get theirs off of misses or garbage points.

Re: NBA 2k14
I second the tight D setting, and also, if you play tight and he goes around you, wail on the steal button to either get a turnover or foul before he shoots. Also, try mixing in the halfcourt trap. It can backfire but can also disrupt the CPU offense for short periods of time. For halfcourt, I recommend letting the AI play as your defending PG and playing as the other player you want to double team, at least as the CPU brings the ball up the court. This should prevent things like your center coming up to pressure the ball handler at half court.icvu42 wrote:I suck at this game...I suck! I suck! I suck! Finally, just try to take away whatever is working for the CPU. If they are hitting from outside, stay on them constantly as soon as they get near the ark and make them drive, where you might get help on D. If they are driving, play off a little and get ready to hit the jump button if they settle for the jumper.

My Career is so awesome I haven't played anything but that this year...almost halfway through season 1.
Re: NBA 2k14
Where do you set your tendencies? I searched all last night. The only thing I could find was in matchups where to switch which players are defending the other team. i don't see any coach settings like the 360 versions previously had.sportdan30 wrote:Set your tendencies to tight defense on the "star" players, and play off the ball as a center.

Sorry for the confusion. You have to set each individual match-up to "tight", "sag off", etc. You were probably in the right screen. Also, be sure to change up the Points of Emphasis during timeouts. There's one for defense and offense.
Re: NBA 2k14
so I've been home the last few days taking care of the kid while the wife is sick.when the kid is napping I'm trying to play some NBA. my success rate actually getting into a game probably 20 percent on my One.
That's shitty. And not even primetime. I'm thinking of returning it for FIFA or Madden.......
