Played a bit of 2013 on the 360 before I sold the system, and picked up the PC version this weekend on steam sale for ~30 with the classic pack included. Sometimes I forget how damn pretty these games are. And it controls magnificently on the PC w/ the 360 controller as well. Sucks that no friends are really on the PC version so I can compare times...but hot lapping and playing against times on the web is still a blast.

Picked it up on the Steam sale as well, so I will probably be posting some times this week.

Not worth starting a new thread but F1 2015 is shaping up to be quite interesting.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/ ... 16187.html

Next year's official Formula One video game will be available on new-generation platforms and will feature live, in-season updates for the first time, Codemasters have confirmed. The game, which will be playable on the Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC, will also be released earlier in the season.

Players will receive digital updates for the game as the 2015 FIA Formula One World Championship unfolds, enabling them to compete against the drivers and teams they watch week in and week out.

Codemasters have also revealed a release date of October 17 for their F1 2014 game, which boasts several new features including an enhanced career mode and an intuitive driver evaluation system that tunes the game difficulty to each player's individual ability

The 2014 game will cover the rule changes made at the start of the season, meaning new turbocharged cars - with refined handling - and new circuits in Sochi and Spielberg. For the first time, Bahrain will also be a night race, with the transition from day to night also incorporated.

Stephen Hood, creative director of Codemasters' F1 series, said sweeping changes within the sport will make for a radically different game.

"This is the year it all changes - for the sport and for the game," he said. "There's been a dramatic shift in the sport; the largest shake up in the rules and regulations for a very long time and the new power units provide a very different kind of challenge, for both driver and team.

"By delivering all of these changes, F1 2014 will make for an exciting and refreshingly different experience.

No 360 or PS3 release. Stupid, at least for this edition of the game. There are still millions of users of last-gen consoles worldwide.

I was just wondering if we'd hear anything about new F1 games this year, thanks for posting.

They didn't mention anything about the classic content in either version, wonder if that is making a return. I got rid of my 360 but kept a PS3 after getting the One, so I lost my copy of 2013. The classic stuff is so good but I can't bring myself to repurchase at full price on PS3.

Paul - I think this year's World Cup game might be the canary in the coal mine for PS3/Xbox 360 software, sales have really fallen off a cliff on those platforms. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out for Madden/FIFA/NBA this year, but after one more Christmas for the new consoles I'm not so sure the Codies are making a bad business decision.

Yeah, you're right, Dave. After I pressed "Post" on my last post in this thread, I thought maybe the Codies are surfing ahead of the curve for once.

But I don't own a next-gen console, so I'm bitter F1 2014 only is coming out on the One and PS4. You're damn right I'm bitter. :)

Per the article:
"The 2014 game will be available on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC."

It hasn't been confirmed if F1 2015 will release on the PS3 and 360 as well. I don't see why it shouldn't.

Ah, RIF - Reading Is Fundamental. Thanks for setting me straight. Good news, boys!

I just don't play games enough these days to justify $400 on a new box. My kids play during the summer, so it's them 99 percent of the time you see me logged into XBL. I've probably put in less than 10 hours of gaming since May 1.

My kids need more screen time like I need another 4 inches trimmed from my already small schlong. I live by the Mick Jagger school of parenting: "You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometime, you just might find, you get what you need."

From VirtualR.net - http://www.virtualr.net/f1-2014-first-previews-trailer
Codemasters have announced F1 2014, the newest title in their long-running Formula One game franchise.

To be released this October, F1 2014 will of course bring all the cars, drivers and tracks of the current F1 season to the PC and gaming consoles.

New Features

REFINED CAREER MODE Play through a full Formula One season or choose from shorter seasons, including 7 race and 12 race options.

EXPANDED SCENARIO MODE The expanded Scenario mode features a range of different scenarios based on real-world challenges and moments from recent history.

REFINED HANDLING The enhanced game physics combined with refined handling via gamepads delivers a more authentic and accessible driving experience for all players.

DRIVER EVALUATION SYSTEM Replacing the Young Driver Test in-game is a new driver evaluation system. You’ll be launched right into a one lap race after loading F1 2014 for the first time. After completing the race the game then suggests an appropriate difficulty level dependant on your performance. To encourage the widest range of players to enjoy F1 2014, difficulty levels have been adjusted for periodic progression. Very Easy difficulty level is the most approachable yet for newcomers to the series, whilst the game’s hardest setting, with all of the driving aids switched off, will simulate the technical challenges facing F1 drivers of today.

TURBO-CHARGED FORMULA ONE The introduction of turbochargers to the cars this year has increased both overtaking opportunities and the demands placed on drivers, as huge amounts of torque are unleashed under acceleration from these entirely new power units. The turbochargers require greater throttle control than before and, with last year’s high-pitched engine sounds replaced with a deeper growl, F1 2014 players will experience the dramatic effect in handling the world’s most advanced racing cars.

ERS DEBUTS Following on from the success of KERS, ERS – Electronic Recovery System – makes a dramatic debut in F1 2014 with 10 times the capacity of last season’s KERS system, ERS now generates an extra 160bhp for around 33 seconds which is delivered to drivers instantly, opening up more overtaking opportunities.

The classic content from F1 2013 has been cut for this edition, gamers also have to make do without the popular Williams Martini livery as alcohol-advertising bans prevent Codemasters from using it in game.

Like Codemasters’ GRID Autosport title, F1 2014 will come to the PC and old-gen gaming consoles (Playstation 3 & Xbox 360).

Codemasters will be making the next-gen jump using an all new engine with F1 2015, the title will be released early during the 2015 season and come with weekly live updates during the course of the real-life F1 season.
I am worried about what this refined handling means. F1 2013 was just about the perfect mix of sim/arcarde for a console game. Likewise it is sad to lose the classic content, as that was a fun addition to F1 2013.

I race with the classic cars and tracks about 75 percent of the time. Plus I think the handling in this year's game is nearly perfect. So early details of F1 2014 don't enthuse me much.

Only problem is the small fields with the classics. I do like the cars, hate the small fields.

F1 2014 now available in US for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC

This year it appears it is available for digitial download and disc format. I still have my 360, but I can't imagine having enough time to warrant a new purchase for 360 when Forza 5 and Horizon 2 are giving me so much enjoyment. Most of the reviews seem to point to this being a dumbed down version compared to F1 2013 with the classic content.

Reviews:

http://www.videogamer.com/reviews/f1_2014_review.html
F1 2014 is a stop-gap. By skipping new-gen systems, it lacks the appeal of a visual and tech upgrade, yet also lacks some of the standout content of last year’s entry, meaning this game feels more like a DLC update than a fully-fledged entry to the series.

Lacking the excellent Classic Content of last year – which brought with it iconic cars, drivers and circuits of the 1980s and 90s – the cars and tracks of 2014 act as the only significant update, along with an increased push on accessibility for new players in the form of the Evaluation Test. F1 2014 feels like DLC padded into a full game in order to compensate for delayed arrival of the series’ next-gen debut.

For F1 devotees and newcomers alike, it’s difficult to justify picking up 2014 when considering the significant disparity in content between it and 2013. .....F1 2013 now feels like the pinnacle of the series on 360 and PS3, and for those looking for the evolution of F1 games, you’re going to have to wait and see what the developer has up its sleeve in 2015
http://www.xboxachievements.com/game/f1-2014/review/
There's not all that much wrong with F1 2014, there's just not that much to it either. Certainly, when compared to previous outings, it's clear that little progress has been made. With Codemasters due to release F1 2015 on next-gen consoles last year, it doesn't take much outside of the box thinking to decipher where efforts are being focused.
http://www.totalxbox.com/81955/reviews/ ... 60-review/
The fifth game in as many years, F1 2014 has a lot to do in order to impress. The tall order was made even loftier with Codemasters' announcement that we wouldn't be seeing an Xbox One version until next year. Two iterations ago, perhaps we wouldn't have been so concerned, but the rot has well and truly set in. With only a few recent additions to the game's structure F1 2014 is perhaps the least essential outing since the series' inception.......

The racing experience itself remains largely unchanged, which keeps F1 2014 above board as one of the most thrilling and satisfying roadsters out there. Competing wheel-to-wheel feels dangerous, and requires plenty of skill: a ten-lap battle with Fernando Alonso around Hungary's Hungaroring saw us trading rubber at 150+ mph.
Of course the racing was F1 2013's strong point, but is there enough change here to warrant a new purchase, expecially on last-gen? Probably not. Knowing my lack of restriant, I will probably still end up getting it at some point just for the new Russia and Austria tracks.

I refuse to buy F1 2014 for any console because the classic content was removed. Those cars and tracks were the best part of F1 2013, by far.

I'll only buy F1 2014 when it's on a mega sale. Codemaster's has indicated that F1 2015 will be out early next year with the start of the F1 season and will be updated throughout the F1 calendar.

It's $16.99 on Steam until midnight Dec 24. With 2015 supposedly coming out in the spring, don't think even a penny under $17 will entice me.
