How is the Sammy UNxxKS800d series for 4K / HDR gaming? Anyone have experience with Samsung LED TV's when it comes to HD gaming at all?

I just upgraded all my TVs to Samsung 4K LEDs over the past year. Got a 60 (of the series mentioned above, but I believe a 2015 model), 55 and a 50 (of a lesser series) and couldn't be happier. Just from a quality standpoint, they are on point. Not much light bleed, and all three seem to be very good for gaming, so I'm sure you'll be happy.

Just got home with the 65" 800 series. Need to tweak the video settings a bit (any pointers in the right direction would be great). Haven't hooked up the One S to it yet, but will probably get on that after the Broncos game tomorrow.

Best Buy is having a pretty killer sale on this model this week, for 400 of MSRP.

The 55" is at 999 and the 65" for 1499.

I just pulled the trigger on the 55" Curved (KS8500) ($1099) and it is absolutely stunning so far. Upgraded from a 5 year old Toshiba 42" 240 hz LED 1080p screen. I am getting my DirecTV 4K box installed this afternoon, so I am looking forward to being wowed. Once I have the new box, I will be using that calibration link to get the set properly set up. It is pretty good out of the box, but I know it can be so much better.

Word of warning....it took me almost 2 hours to get the "smart" remote to get me past the damn Welcome screen. I never use the batteries that come with these kinds of items, I always put in my Duracell Quantums. I tried 2 different sets of DC Quantums and no go. Spent 30 minutes with Samsung Tech Support with no resolution. Was ready to repackage and take back to Best Buy as defective. I decided to try the batteries that came with the TV and the remote worked like a charm. NEVER seen anything like that before.

Also saw an article that the Samsung KS8000 series was one of the Top 2 for video games (LG OLED was #1 but complained of bad input lag that was much better with the Samsung).

Looking forward to the 4K DTV box as well as seeing some of the Netflix 4K content.....

I'm very impressed by the low input lag on the 8000 series. Used the calibration settings from the link above (thanks btw) and am loving this TV.

My One S is still downstairs in the cave, but once I get some time I'm going to bring that up into the main living room and swap out with the launch day system. Can't wait to see how BF1, FH3, and 2K17 look on this bad boy.

What I really need to do is run into a little more money and upgrade the TV downstairs with the 55" version of this TV (don't have room for 65, that's why it's up in the main living room).

I will probably go the Samsung KS 8000 route as well. One thing I found out though is that I will need a receiver that's 2.2 HDCP compatible to get the full 4K experience. I have everything hooked up thru a Yamaha RX-A740 receiver which I just found out is not 2.2. And I bought it about a year and a half ago. Any good suggestions out there for a good receiver that's 2.2 DHCP ready?

Anything by Yamaha. Their receivers have always been the best, most consistent in my experience. I've had em all. HK, Onkyo, Sony, etc...always go back to Yamaha.

Well, now I am looking for more money as it seems that my 5 year old Denon AVR 1912 can't pass through 4K signals, but can pass through everything else including 3D content. Hooked up the new 4K box and 4K is not one of the resolutions available when the Denon is used as a pass through. Bypassing the receiver, 4K works perfectly. What I am trying to determine now is if I can find a way to use my receiver to play the TV content through the Optical cable only through the receiver using Zone 2 which does not require video. If I can do that, then I can wait for another $500+ receiver. There are currently only 2 channels on DirecTV that are 4K. If not, I will stick with 1080p content as that work perfectly through the receiver and my Klipsch Sub and speaker system. I was surprised at the sound quality of the TV itself. Not at all bad, but I do miss my subwoofer. Really impressed with the screen and all of the different options. The link to that website above was a HUGE help!

My Denon receiver is 5 years old and I get that pass through doesn't work in 4K. But your situation would piss me off. Have you checked to see if there are any firmware upgrades for your unit? I was looking for one for my Denon, but there wasn't one, but there were over 50 models that had recent firmware updates. Worth a look instead of buying a new receiver....

Good suggestion, but I am pretty sure that the 2.2 DCHP feature is more of a hardware upgrade than software. Was going thru searches and my model receiver was not compatible to get the full 4K experience. And yeah, I am pretty disappointed at this point although a buddy of mine mentioned about hooking up everything directly instead to the TV. Thing is, my current 55' TV is mounted on a wall in the living room and I am not sure if 4-5 HDMI cables would fit thru it.

So for everyone that wants to get the full 4K of experience and you have it boxes, consoles and DVR's hooked thru a receiver, make sure to get a 2.2 DCHP compatible model.

As for the TV, I am pretty sure I will get your model too but go with the 65' screen, although the Oled model by LG is getting rave reviews but is so much more expensive. Reason I was thinking about it is that it is both HDR and Dolby Vision compatible and I don't want to be caught in this war in just a couple of years. Lag input is not as good as the Samsung apparently, so decisions, decisions...

Great article, thanks. I am going to experiment with using my Optical out from the TV to my Optical in on the receiver to see if I can still get the sound through my system and not just from the TV bypassing the pass through on the receiver and hooking everything up directly to the TV. Can't see how HDCP 2.2 could be an issue with simply outputting optical data to the receiver. I'll report back if I can get any of this to work.

New models will be shown in January at CES.

Unless you get a deal you can't pass up, may want to wait a bit, especially if you plan to do more with the TV than game.

4K content will also support new audio such as Dolby Atmos, so another feature to consider if upgrading the AVR.

Target has the 60 inch Samsung UN60KU6300 for $689 on Black Friday, I'm aiming for one of these for a spare room in the house. Anyone feedback on this unit?

That's the model I have in my office (tho the 55"). Picture is fantastic, very low input lag for gaming and virtually no issues w/ the backlighting. One complaint I have though is the software could be better for using the smart tv interface. It's kind of clunky. It's not as fast or as clean as the 800 series that was talked about previous in this thread.

Everything else is great about it though, so go for it! Think I spent 750 on my 55" from Best Buy a few months ago.

Thanks DB, we're converting the girl old play room into another space. I want to mount the TV on the wall, throw a coach in there and make it m main gaming area. I want to cut down gaming on in my theater room as those projector bulbs are $400 a pop.

Exactly what I did. Remodeled the office since I work from home now. Couch for mid-day naps and guests and a new TV setup on the wall. :)

No. Has a HDR+ mode but it's a Samsung thing...not true HDR.
