I was looking forward to finally watching my Knicks and being excited for the first time since we shipped away Ewing. Boy, this team is painful to watch.

Re: NBA Season 2011-12 Thread
Agreed. The best Knicks' team of the last 16 months was the one that started last season. I'd put a starting five of Felton, Fields, Gallinari, Chandler and Stoudemire against the post-deadline Knicks or this year's Knicks every day of the week. That team also had a better bench with Douglas, Walker, Williams and Turiaf.fsquid wrote:I was looking forward to finally watching my Knicks and being excited for the first time since we shipped away Ewing. Last year's early-season team had chemistry. It had players with complimentary roles. STAT was the only ball-stopper.
This year's team is a mess.
Blame can be shared between upper management and D'Antoni. Everyone knows the Knicks' biggest problem is poor defense, and D'Antoni is a poor defensive coach. The Knicks are not going to outscore teams to win every night, especially against teams like Miami, Orlando and Boston.
Yet Knicks' management continues to back the D'Antoni Way even though it's clearly the wrong path. There's no chance the Knicks advance past the first round of the playoffs with this lineup and with D'Antoni as coach. ZERO.
In hindsight, maybe it's a blessing that TimeWarner and MSG still are in a pissing match over rights fees and I can only see the Knicks on TNT, NBA TV and ESPN. Watching every game of this team would raise my blood pressure 15 points.

Losing to the Suns at home is reason enough to break up the entire team. The Knicks just looked BAD. And Grant Hill not being on the all defensive team last year was a joke...he completely dominated Melo last night.pk500 wrote:In hindsight, maybe it's a blessing that TimeWarner and MSG still are in a pissing match over rights fees and I can only see the Knicks on TNT, NBA TV and ESPN. Sorry to see the Bulls just miss winning at Miami, but what a game yesterday. Rose and LeBron really put on a show. Too bad the refs f'd it up at the end of the game.
Re: NBA Season 2011-12 Thread
I missed the NBA during the lockout but now that it's back, just not feeling it yet.
By contrast, the NFL seems to be more popular than ever, after the lockout. Ratings were up, at least for the playoffs games, while it remains to be seen if people are watching NBA. After the Superbowl, there should be more nationally-televised NBA games, see if it holds up then.

Can't believe Rose and James missed two free throws each in the final minute. Still, it must be the easiest coaching assignment to draw up a play to defend Chicago when the Bulls need a clutch shot down the stretch. Rose is going to take it, EVERY damn time.Brando70 wrote:Sorry to see the Bulls just miss winning at Miami, but what a game yesterday. Rose and LeBron really put on a show. But stopping Rose is another story. He still excites me like no other player in the NBA. It's so much fun to see him drive, contort and twist through forests of guys a foot taller in the paint and devise some sort of crazy, billiards-like bank shot in mid-air.

Re: NBA Season 2011-12 Thread
Rose lost me about 250 bucks in an NCAA pool when he was at Memphis, missing free throws at the end of the championship game. So been there done that.
Re: NBA Season 2011-12 Thread
Rose had some ridiculous finishes on his drives. He also has arguably the best pump fake-and-drive move in the league. But LeBron played tremendously, too. When his jumper is falling like it was yesterday, he can't be stopped.
I am kind of digging the short season. Gives a little more meaning to the early games.

I agree that LeBron played well for the bulk of the game, but again, down the stretch, not so much.
He forced up a crap 20 footer that didn't come close; drove the lane and threw up junk looking for contact (a good no call) then missed two free throws. I would much rather have the ball in Wade's hands at the end.

The funny thing about the playoffs last year is that it obscured that LeBron was actually one of the best clutch players last year:Pete wrote:I agree that LeBron played well for the bulk of the game, but again, down the stretch, not so much.

I couldn't find the stats for the current season, but I have to think he's doing well late in the game given the tear he's on so far.

Hell of a dunk matchup in the last few days.
Tonights entry:
vs.
Sunday's entry:
I'm not sure who I'd take. I mean it's one thing to just dunk on another human (tho kind of throwing it in) but it's another thing to literally jump over a 6ft. dude and catch and dunk all with one hand. I've gotta go with Lebron on this one, tho Blake definitely is contending with that monster.

LeBron, all the way.
We've seen that dunk from Griffin, who flushed over Timofey Mozgov last year when The Moz was on the Knicks. I've never seen a dunk like LBJ's on Sunday.
Plus alley-oop over solo power slam. No contest.

LeBron's was in Vince Carter over Frederic Weis territory. Someone made a great comment at Deadspin that while LeBron was green in riding his bike to the game, he left a large carbon footprint on John Lucas's face.

I'm still partial to Amare's over Tolliver from a few years back. Just so pretty when two guys running full speed meet at the rim.
And then the ultimate Suns dunk...KJ over the Dream...in the playoffs no less!
These people screaming that Blake's was the best ever are ridiculous.

Jordan had a few monster dunks over Sequoias, and he's 4 inches shorter than Griffin.

That is a great dunk and a high degree of difficulty.dbdynsty25 wrote:And then the ultimate Suns dunk...KJ over the Dream...in the playoffs no less!
Griffin's dunk was nice and he is so much fun to watch, but he almost missed the dunk if you watch closely.

He barely got his fingers on the rim, if we really want to get picayune. It almost was more of a flush than a dunk. Impressive as hell, though.Brando70 wrote:That is a great dunk and a high degree of difficulty.dbdynsty25 wrote:And then the ultimate Suns dunk...KJ over the Dream...in the playoffs no less!

I think Wilkins was the best dunker ever. He had the best combination of power and agility. The put-back dunk against the Celtics in that video is unreal.
