No he's being sarcastic towards some of the people who said the A.I. hasn't changed. Yes its my game, I love the feature set of this game it surpass any racing game to date. It may have some legacy issues as far as driving cpu A.I. goes, but I will soon find out, hopefully by Monday. Hopefully PD will turn on the servers so the patch and community features will be available.Rodster wrote:backbreaker they're ripping your game. I take it you've never played iRacing.

I haven't played that sim in about 2 or so years. I don't collect the cars. I get intimate with about 3 maybe 4 cars and those are my babies.pk500 wrote:Car collecting can be fun. Considering iRacing has only been around for two years and three months, you've missed a lot. The sim was the best on the market when it was released; with updates every six weeks, it's streets ahead of the competition, PC or console.backbreaker wrote:I haven't played that sim in about 2 or so years. What kind of subscription did you have to iRacing?

Rod, not that I think there's anything wrong with it, but by continuing to slam GT5 (which you haven't even played), aren't you doing the same thing that I always get criticized for doing to Madden? Why not just let the guys who like the GT series enjoy the new game?Rodster wrote:At the 2:20 mark it confirmed what I thought all along when the guy says and I quote: "so far the AI sticks to it's own line which is why he rammed me". Good point GT and yes YOU would be correct, except I have it prepaid via Amazon. I'm with PK that this game will be just the same as previous games with wonky AI and average physics. What backbreaker posted I take with a grain of salt because MOST of the comments put the AI again in the negative light which is no surprise to me. If i'm wrong about the AI i'll man up and be the first to admit I was wrong. Based on PD's past track record I may keep my record intact.GTHobbes wrote:Rod, not that I think there's anything wrong with it, but by continuing to slam GT5 (which you haven't even played), aren't you doing the same thing that I always get criticized for doing to Madden? Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
Until this year I kept buying Madden with the same hope it would change, and I would've been glad to "man up" and admit it if they ever put out something on the level of NBA2k11 or The Show. Now I root for it to fail so someone other than Tiburon will get a shot. Again, I think it's okay to have a positive or negative opinion about games -- just wondered if you saw the parallel there.
Sorry for the threadjack, and back on topic. Still very much enjoying the videos people are posting and looking forward to seeing how Sony's servers hold up when the game is released next week.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
No problem GT, yeah the Gran Turismo series does some nice things, it's not a bad game far from it, it's just other companies have been doing it better for sometime now, Turn 10 is an example. The Gran Turismo 1000+ car count is a joke because you have a lot of the same stuff whereas Forza 2 and more so Forza 3 has a smaller car count but in reality has a far better car collection than Gran Turismo 5.
You want to drive a slew of Porsche's or Ferrari's they aren't in the 1000 car count of GT5 but you can find them in Forza 3. This biggest problem me and PK have with Gran Turismo is that once upon a time it was cutting edge and Polyphony Digital has done very little to advance the series other than to make the car look prettier, give you a higher car count and a Photo Mode. Finally they added online when Forza has been doing it for far longer.
I don't have a problem with people giving the positives of a game but when I detect someone is hiding the faults of the game, 'not you' then I raise an eyebrow.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
Very well said, Rod. And GT, you're right: If people want to enjoy Gran Turismo, that's cool. I'm sincerely happy it brings them pleasure.
What torques me is when people try to depict the series as a realistic simulator of driving and racing. It's not. It's a very, very, very pretty relaxed driving sim. Graphics always have trumped realism in this series; that is priority No. 1 with Polyphony Digital, with artificially inflated car counts a close second.
There was no racing in the first four editions of GT because the AI was so pathetic. The driving model isn't even remotely close to the best in the virtual world, either, as iRacing, Live For Speed and certain rFactor mods on the PC wipe the floor with it.
I haven't played Forza 2, so I can't compare the driving model of that game to GT. But I have read -- both in here and around the Web -- Forza 2 has very good physics.
In the words of the immortal Dennis Green, Gran Turismo is what we thought it would be. It's a gorgeous game that lets you drive quite a few desirable cars. It's never been a racing game.
GT and Test Drive: Unlimited are closer cousins than GT is to a true racing sim. When people try to pimp GT as anything else, it yanks my chain. Maybe GT 5 will be different. Given PD's track record and the immense sales of this series, I doubt it.

Understand completely, PK. Given you guys' passion for racing and mine for videogame football, I'm not surprised to see any of your comments or the reasoning behind them. With Madden's sales being down 20% this year, though, at least I've got some hope (however small) for some change in the near future.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
They were good in Forza 2 and even better in Forza 3 with all assists off and the AI is quite competent, not in the league of Gran Prix 4 but miles better than Gran Turismo AI.pk500 wrote:I haven't played Forza 2, so I can't compare the driving model of that game to GT. Yeah GT we're not dissing the game so you don't enjoy it, far from it have a blast with it. But when some peg it as the ultimate racer, well it ain't GT that's for sure. If you want realistic physics try iRacing and if you want to be punished and cry like a little girl give Richard Burns Rally a go.GTHobbes wrote:Understand completely, PK. Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
The difference between a series like Madden and a series like Gran Turismo is one of timing. With Madden, there is annual hope for improvements. A new game is going to be on shelves by early August -- EA has no choice. That tight development cycle can stunt improvement and innovation, but at least there's a regular cycle of expectation.GTHobbes wrote:Understand completely, PK. With GT, Polyphony releases the game whenever it sees fit. You read about endless delays to hone the game, improve the game, and then the game is released with many of the same flaws from previous editions. And a sequel may not be released for another four years.
That is more maddening than the annual disappointment some feel with Madden.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
Fair point, PK. But if PD bought up the exclusive license for all of these cars and tracks, putting ALL competition out of business in the racing category of games, and then did next to NOTHING to advance the genre over the next six (6) frickin' years, I think you'd understand my burn.
Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
That would never happen GT because all 32 teams are represented by the NFL whereas car companies are independent, way too many to buy all of the licenses and if so they would go broke.
Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
I know it will never happen, Rod. But if I was a gear head racing videogame fan (which I'm not), I'd say an extra prayer of thanks when I got up each morning for that fact. If GT5 doesn't get the reality part right and is nothing more than a beautiful game, maybe the next Forza or DIRT or whatever will get it right. With the case of football, we can take what's offered or leave it and that's it. Either way, we'll be treated to another "Madden Holiday" and all the "it's the best ever" from the media that goes with it.
Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
Too bad you don't have a 360 GT because you'd find Forza 2 and especially Forza 3 has gotten more right than Gran Turismo and it's a beautiful looking game to boot. I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with GT.GTHobbes wrote:I know it will never happen, Rod. Thanks for the dialogue, fellas, and again sorry for the threadjack.
Now, who's got some more GT5 videos?
Any reviews start popping up yet? I saw IGN said they're holding theirs until online goes up this week. Embargo, maybe? If so, I wonder who has the exclusive 1st review (which I'm sure will be 90 or above and open to all sorts of criticism itself).
Now, who's got some more GT5 videos?

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
I haven't played GT extensively since 2 and I guess I played 3 somewhat, but I've always felt that in terms of physics and driving simulation, the GT series has always been pretty strong and gotten it right. I'm sure there is no end to the sims on PC that do it better, and when you venture off the tarmac surely GT has major flaws, but to me the GT series has always been a superior driving simulation (and car collection game), while not being in any way a superior racing game, not by AI and essentially not by design (improve your car through upgrades so that you out HP the AI, then you can win the race and open up the next series).
But I learned a lot in the old days of GT2 about real world car physics and driving technique mostly thanks to the license tests, so I still think it's fair to thnk of GT as a quality driving sim. It certainly set the bar for console racing games back in the days of GT and GT2. Maybe it's not the best when compared to PC sims, but I certainly expect it to compare very well to Forza in terms of physics simulation (perhaps without the tire simulation of Forza). We will have to see because if I'm not mistaken, all three Forza games have been released since the last GT release.
