63-7?!?

We might need to add a new league rule that Terry can't play offense. :)

And... despite our outcome in season 1, he plays by that rule today, he still beats me. :P

First a question: How do you upload highlights so that they show up on the online franchise web site? I haven't figured that out.

Disrespected Dolphins dominate Pats 31-0

Miami went into this first game having suffered only their third loss in nineteen Madden matchups, in a game where a referee mistake made the game seem like more of a result than it was (no disrespect to the Jets). Yet even with a 16-3 lifetime record, the Fins were given no respect, dropping to #11 in the Power rankings (with two CPU teams ranked ahead of them), with their coach now on the hot seat. So Miami responded to the doubters, shutting out a CPU Patriots squad that hung 42 on the Vikings last week, resulting in a 31-0 victory.

Miami returned to their balanced attack of last season, and dominated time of possession and first downs (21-10). Chad Pennington was 20-30 with three touchdowns (two to rookie B. Trammell) and only one interception, with Ted Ginn getting seven receptions for 89 yards. Ronnie Brown returned to last season's form, with 16 rushes for 114 yards and a touchdown. The Dolphins defense stymied Tom Brady all day, forcing three turnovers and holding him to 177 yards passing.

The Dolphins and Patriots both have byes next week.

I thought that I'd stumbled into the DSP NCAA Dynasty thread and Terry was recounting his victory over Jacksonville University :D

You know what's sad...somehow my running game has gone to hell. I mean, like 2.1 yards per carry. So I uncork a few bombs and suddenly the score is like 35-3 or 42-7 or something at halftime.

Then the running game comes around. So in this last game he had 14 throws in the first half and McFadden had 8 carries. Second half Morrow had 5 throws and McFadden had 19 carries. Yet it still got blown up.

I'm always thinking that I DON'T want to be "that guy" that runs the score up, which is why I'll run far more than pass if it gets ugly, but if it's 3rd and 12 I'll still toss a pass to move the chains.

However...yeah. 63-7 was just ugly. Every time my QB unloads one, it's been an ugly affair for the CPU. The guy has 81 short accuracy and 84 deep, so those rainbows from a play action are LETHAL to a defense that bites on the PA.

When I pulled Morrow in the 3rd he had completed something like 10 or 11 straight.

I dunno. I don't see a human being fooled so badly by PA passes, so it's less of an issue against another person. However, the running game will probably get going a bit better in that case. Either way, the score stays closer vs. humans than the CPU I'm guessing.

You have to go back to the main menu and go to My Madden, then Video Highlights. They'll be shown under exhibition, strangely. Upload from there.

And those 2 CPU teams are 2-0 :)

Cowboys Smitten With Witten, Come From Behind to Beat Texans 21-17.

IRVING, TX - Down 17-14 and standing 89 yards away from the Texans endzone with five minutes remaining, the Cowboys faced two choices for winning the game: ground delivery or air express?

Dallas chose the latter, delivering three passes to their jumbo jet receiver, tight end Jason Witten. Witten had 52 yards receiving on the Cowboys final drive, part of an eight-catch, 118-yard performance.

Defense dominated most of the first half. The Texans finally got their first significant drive going midway through the second quarter, but had to settle for a 46-yard Kris Brown field goal. The Cowboys took their next possession further, pounding the ball down the field via the ground while mixing in short passes from Tony Romo, culminating in a four-yard touchdown run by Marion Barber and a 7-3 Cowboys lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Texans finally got into a groove on offense, thanks mostly to running back Steve Slaton. After taking a screen pass 29 yards, Slaton broke off a 22-yard run on the next play:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
That run set up a two-yard touchdown rush by Ryan Moats and gave the Texans a 10-7 lead. However, the lead didn't last long. The Cowboys again used bruising runs from Marion Barber and efficient passing from Romo to get into Texans territory. Running back Felix Jones took things from there:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
Catching the Texans in a middle blitz, the speedy Jones got outside and raced untouched 37 yards for the score and a 14-10 Dallas lead. Dallas finished the day with 26 rushes for 128 yards, with Barber rushing 18 times for 72 yards and Jones adding 48 yards on five carries.

Quarterback Tony Romo had been a short-range assassin for most of the game, but made a critical error on the Cowboys next possession:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
Rookie cornerback Rakeem Jordan picked off Romo and took the interception 42 yards for the score and a 17-14 Texans lead.

Houston's defense kept Dallas in check until Dallas got the ball at their 11 with five minutes left in the game. That's when Romo and Witten went to work, with Barber adding several key runs and Miles Austin converting a critical third-and-four near midfield. With just over a minute left, Romo dropped back at the Houston 33:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
Romo threaded the ball to Witten in between two Houston defenders, while Witten broke a tackle and avoided another to score with 1:11 left and make the game 21-17, Dallas.

With all three timeouts, Houston had time to get down the field, but the Dallas defense had other plans.
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
Safety Ken Hamlin picked off Matt Schaub's pass to Jacoby Jones to seal the game with 59 seconds remaining.

In addition to the running game and Witten's heroics, the Dallas defense did a terrific job, limiting receiver Andre Johnson to two catches for 15 yards and holding Houston to just 204 yards of offense.

Dallas hosts the New York Giants next, while Houston travels to Denver to face the Broncos.

***
Great game, Badgun, your defense was really tough and you did a terrific job rushing and making key plays through the air.

I assume you mean 7pm PT, which is 9pm CT.

Would 9pm PT / 11pm CT work for you?

Several people have expressed concern over next week sim with Xmas and all. I wanted to wait to announce this so dates didn't be come confused but here is what is going to happen.

Current week sims 12/21 11pm CT

Following week sims 12/30 11pm CT

That gives the following week 9 days. If you still not able to make it that week and have a game against a HUMAN opponent then announce it here and leave the franchise.

Let me know if this doesn't make sense to anyone.

Oh after the first of the year I will be announcing our new FA draft procedure. Last year didn't work for me, too many rounds, not enough talent. Stay tuned.....

Of course he only means back out temporarily to let your human opponent play the game v CPU, and then come back for the following week. He doesn't mean leave forever. Just to be clear.

And Dan I share your sentiments about the FA draft.

Brando, great writeup...dude you should moonlight as a sports reporter, that stuff is as good as anything I see in the paper everyday.

Great game on your part. When you picked that pass off and ran it back, I was already trying to figure out how to dig out from a 1-2 start because I didn't feel like I would be able to put up another TD. You did a great job of adjusting and in the 2nd half I went from feeling like I had it in the bag to thinking I was surely going to lose.

You did a great job of spotting my blitzes and throwing quickly to someone to beat it. If you notice, I went away from the blitz pretty quick. Let me just say that you have definitely come a long way since our matchup in the first season.

Let me also say that as someone who was against using headsets for the entire game, I have really enjoyed chatting with Brando and Zeppo in my first two games. I did get a delay penalty last night while running my mouth, but Brando graciously declined it since he knew why I got it. Thanks again. Can't wait until my next game!

That's exactly why I'm in this league. At the end of the day I'd like to win but if I have fun playing the game and enjoy the competition I really don't care if I do. That's what makes this league so great. I'm glad to hear you've been having fun chatting.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Thanks, Badgun, it was a really fun game and I love that it went down to the wire. You really had me on my heels that last drive, mixing up your plays that I almost always was thinking run when you passed and vice versa.

I know interest in Madden will wane as the year goes on, but I really hope we can get at least a couple more seasons out of this. I love this league and think we have a terrific set of owners. Despite my 1-12 career record against human opponents, I'm really happy 75% of my games are against real people this season, because that's what makes it so much fun to play.

Before I start I want to say I feel like crap with this victory. Mac and I had an epic battle going on. As time expired and we went to OT he disconnected, I waited for him to come back onoine to see what to do and he was gone a while. He contacted me that not only did he get a disco, his Xbox was acting up. I asked him if he wanted me to finish and to his credit he said yes. This game could of easily went to him, it was one of the best battles I've had online.

Broncos escape San Diego with OT win 34-31

It what was one of the most intense games of the Broncos young season they went into San Diego and faced an incredibly strong Charger team and escape with a 3 point Ot win.

After both teams traded possession, Rookie QB kelly James was intercepted but the Broncos defense held and the Chargers got on the board first with a 30 yard Kaeding field goal.

The Broncos could get nothing going and San Diego and Rivers were connecting on the passing game at will, Rivers threw for 322 yards and he connected on his first touchdown with Tomlinson to give San Diego a 10-0 lead.

Denver settled in and put together an incredible drive capped off with a James to Gaffney TD.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

Denver was feeling good about themselves cutting the game to 10-7 with just over 2 minutes left. San Diego got the ensuing kick and then struck on this amazing play to Gates where he tight roped the side line. (Replay doesn't do it justice) The booth reviewed and the call stood.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

The Broncos managed to move down the field thanks to a big screen play and kick a field goal. Score at halftime is 17-10.

San Diego starts off the second half just like the first and moves down field. On a 3rd and goal Rivers made his only mistake of the day when he was picked off by Dawkins and the Broncos moved down field and scored on a Royals TD. The Chargers then had a 67 yard scamper by Keller. Denver answered again as James hit Hills to notch the game at 24.

The 4th quarter was mostly consumed by a methodical Denver drive where the kept the ball on the ground. With 3:03 left Moreno scampered in from 13 yards to put the Broncos ahead 31-24.

However with 3 minutes and a full compliment of time outs left San Diego marched down the field and converted with 51 second left on an LT run. Denever looked like it might get into field goal range but the Chargers snuffed out a screen play and ended any hopes.

cue crappy disconnect

The Chargers won the toss and deferred (Nice AI) instead of kicking I choose to receive the ball. Ran 3 times and punted, I figure this was the fairest thign to do. This gave San diego the ball at their 41. They managed one first down and punted.

the Broncos put together another long drive, and Prater kicked the game winner with 2:38 left.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

The teams combined for 930 yards of total offense and 37 first downs. Denver was a blistering 5-8 on 3rd down and held the ball for 40:05.

Rivers, 21-27, 1INT, 2TD, 322 yards
James 24-31, 2INT, 3TD, 335 yards

Keller rushed for 86, Tomlinson 40 and Moreno for 99.

Mac I am really sorry that happened, was an really great game. I hope you get your 360 situation worked out.

Titans pluck the Eagles

Post by tmdba37 »

Titans 56 Eagles 17

The Philadelphia Eagles hosted the Tennessee Titans late Friday Night in a DSPFL Game that looked to be on paper a very interesting match-up. . .the much ballyhooed trade between the Eagles and Titans in the offseason set up a number of interesting match-ups, but in the end, with Coach CPU replacing eman earlier in the week, the result became quite predictable. . .

Coming off a horrible game against the Browns, Donovan McNabb held on to the ball this week and completed 18 of 25 pass attempts for 253 Yards with 3 TDs and no INTs and the Titans finally integrated all three of their WRs in the passing game. . .rookie DJ Crosby caught his first two completions of the season for 24 yards, Kenny Britt had 3 catches for 86 and Nate Washington added 72 yards, most of which were gathered on this 55 yard TD strike in the first quarter:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

The Eagles moved the ball well in between the 20s racking up over 300 yards in total--they started Kerry Collins who came in ready to chuck the ball. . .he tossed it 38 times in total completing 18 for 262 yards and 1 TD, but two very costly INTs. . .including this unfortunate one to former Eagle, Asante Samuel in the redzone. . .101 yards later, the Titans had a commanding 42-7 lead:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

Almost lost in the shuffle of the new Titan Offense is All Pro Runner Chris Johnson, he had a hard time against the pesky-Browns in week 2 and was over-shadowed by Bryant Westbrook in week 1, but in week three, the Titans wanted to feature him more as he ran the ball 24 times for 120 hard earned yards and 3 TDs. . .including this nice 22 yard scamper that sucked the life out of the poor Eagles putting them on the deck looking up at a 49-14 deficit:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

Late in the 4th, the Eagles would inexplicably kick a late FG and the Titans would in response add another TD in garbage time to end the scoring. . .

Next week the Titans continue their NFC East Tour by facing off with the always dangerous Washington Redskins and the poor CPU Eagles will undoubtedly be trampled at home again--this time by the Bears. . .

Awesome recap. What an epic battle it was. I will say this though. I'm bummed I didn't get to finish it out but to be honest I think a coin flip would've determined the outcome anyway. Defensively I think we were both having a tough time towards the end and whoever would've started on offense in OT would've at least driven into a healthy FG try. At least that is what I keep telling myself :)

Luckily we'll meet again in a few game and hopefully it'll be just as great!

Played my game. Experimented with another new playbook. It sucked. Tarvaris sucked. Vikings lose 28-7 to Cards. That is all.

Danimal, crazy east coast snowstorm madness is interrupting my travel; meanwhile Scoop's internet connection has been knocked out, and Comcast is telling him 'sometime in the next 24 hrs. . . .maybe.' We are having a really tough time getting this game in, much like the Bears difficulties getting to Balto. I am going to the MNF game tomorrow (assuming i can get to DC by then), so we can't play tomorrow.

I'd like to request an extension. Can we set the sim date to Tuesday or Wednesday night? With the longer window due the holiday coming into effect for the next franchise week, I hope it wouldn't be too disruptive
