Bookies over here have stopped taking bets on Rafa leaving Liverpool. Maybe he's worked out how much £1.5m is in Euros.
Hmm, wonder if our Arabs went up to the skint Yanks, in a John Belushi-esque way and said
"hey imperialist pig-dogs....we want to buy your Gerrard and your Torres...£90m in your hot little hands..."
would they bite ?

"The players come from all over the world, the money from deep underneath the Persian Gulf, but, as another, older City poster campaign put it, this is their city. They may now exist in the global spotlight, but they intend to keep it that way."

Hey, that was one of the best known bookmakers over here changing the market quite significantly, and Macca DID ask for gossipRobVarak wrote:Don't feed the sky-blue troll. He looks friendly, but he likes poking sleeping dogs with a large, pointy stick.

Well we may debate much after today's match, but this time G. Johnson's performance is not one of the topics. Great goal!
Totally disregarding whether he prefers to defend against right or left-footed wingers, he produces a beauty of a scissor kick.

United are 1-0 down at Burnley and Carrick has missed a penalty....meanwhile City are playing Barcelona at the Camp Nou in front of what looks like a full house, and I've got a live stream of it off the City website in hi-def.
Stroll on. The times they are a-changin'. Hopefully Hughes or our Arab overlords are reinforcing to the City squad that this is the sort of action you could be getting if City finish in a CL place. As well as tappin' up Lionel and Gerard Pique, of course. Maybe Kolo could be dropping the word to his brother as well.
Not arsed if City get beat, it's pretty much a backup XI, but good response from the crowd.

Trying a few variations (Onuoha at LB etc). City look a bit starstruck, but I guess the last thing anyone wants is injuries.RobVarak wrote:I was surprised that City were playing a friendly after the start of the domestic season. Is Ibrahimovic playng?
Friendly was a late arrangement...City were due to play Everton at home (and what a poisonous atmosphere that would have been....) but the blue bindippers are playing Sigma Olomouc in the Europa League, so that was off. Barca play a friendly every year about this time against major European opposition for the Joan Gamper trophy I think it is....so they've either recognised City as a new power or (and more likely) none of them were available but City were, and City have already started to forge links at board level earlier in the year.

£60m strike force, Berbatov and Shrek.
'Best transfer of the summer by a mile, Michael Owen, going to score 25 this season'
'We won't miss Ronaldo'
'Who's Tevez'
Burnley 1 Manchester United 0

Actually, those in leagues that don't have 20 teams usually play a few friendlies in August and again at the end of the season in May. Bayern visited a 7th tier club to celebrate that team's centennial last night. When there were devastating floods in Germany a few years back, Bayern went on tour at the end of May to help raise money.RobVarak wrote:I was surprised that City were playing a friendly after the start of the domestic season. What did they do, carry Franck Ribery around on their shoulders and get villages to pay them to make him go away?fsquid wrote: When there were devastating floods in Germany a few years back, Bayern went on tour at the end of May to help raise money.

Meanwhile, City were in Barcelona lifting the Trofeo Joan Gamper in front of 90,000 by beating the home side (who finished with Messi, Pique, Ibrahimovic etc on the pitch) 1-0. Of the 15 City players who took some part in proceedings, 6 were academy products.

Something like that. It is usually let Bayern come and whip a low ranked team by double digits while raising money by having a full house.RobVarak wrote:What did they do, carry Franck Ribery around on their shoulders and get villages to pay them to make him go away?fsquid wrote: When there were devastating floods in Germany a few years back, Bayern went on tour at the end of May to help raise money.

Hmm, just read Mick McCarthy's stuff about City not being up to much and will be sharing mid-table with them this season.
I'd perhaps have waited until after tomorrow for that little insight Mick.
