"Despite the fact that Twitter was in the sh-tter for most of the day, there still have been plenty of new tweets.
Among the most intriguing from an NFL standpoint came from Jets kicker Jay Feely, who sounded off on the news (now conveniently denied by all parties) that receiver Michael Crabtree has played the "I'll re-enter the draft" card in an effort to get a contract that exceeds the value of his draft position.
"When I read that Crabtree is willing to sit out until next year [it] makes me laugh," Feely said. "How can an agent and player be so GREEDY & uncompromising. It further enhances the need to revamp our compensation for draft picks and create a hard cap on what each pick receives. Someone who has never achieved anything in the NFL yet should not be given a contract for more money than the best players in the NFL."

Geez where have I heard that before.
Almost laughable negotiation ploy...The dude needs a real agent....Crabby would only lose money....but as a Ram fan I would love to see this moron actually do it.
So when he retired again last month, it wasn't so much retirement as it was "I am Brett Favre, and I don't feel like living in a dorm or otherwise going through the unpleasant parts of training camp."

Correct.
f*** him and his Wrangler jeans. I've seen less catty melodrama on Rock of Love.

It amazes me that an agent, who is supposed to be looking out for a player's financial interest, would ever play this card. That move NEVER works out.
It's especially idiotic in the NFL, where it is very easy to renegotiate contracts. Take the deal for slightly less than what you feel you're worth, and if you have a big year, renegotiate. A proven player is much more likely to secure a quick deal during a holdout than a rookie who ran a relatively slow 40. Meanwhile this idiot is passing on a contract that would set him up for life regardless of his NFL career.
I for one don't blame Brett Favre as much as the idiots running the Vikings front office aka Rick Spielman who single-handily ruined the Miami Dolphins with his idiotic trades and personnel hires.
Brett Favre will probably have less success with the Vikes versus the Jets and even when you factor AP in the backfield. He should have stayed retired. He doesn't need the money, nor the knock on his reputation.
As a Viking fan who attended college in Wisconsin during the Packer renaissance during the 1990s, allow me to first say that I really loathe Brett Favre. I can't stand the whole "just a guy having a good time out there" persona thrust upon us by the media for the last 15 years and think that he's been a very good, albeit overrated quarterback during his career.
That said, the way the Vikings are constructed right now, they are simply lacking someone who can give them league-average play at the QB spot. If they can get that, they are legit Super Bowl contenders. Can Favre do it? No clue. But I know that he gives them a better shot than either Jackson or Rosenfels. So while it pains me more than you'll ever know, I have to root for the guy to bring my team to the promised land. And if they do somehow win the Super Bowl with this asshole as their quarterback, I'll just hate the man a little bit less.
Spot on - the guy is an utter cock. I suspect he waited til now to see if both Rosenfels and Jackson would make a pig's ear of week 1 and he could ride in to save the day.
Ten years from now, he'll be the one who can't walk, or can't spell words of more than 3 letters (that's assuming he can now, he's never struck me as a rocket scientist).
"The players come from all over the world, the money from deep underneath the Persian Gulf, but, as another, older City poster campaign put it, this is their city. They may now exist in the global spotlight, but they intend to keep it that way."
Favre knew he wanted to be a part of the Vikings all along, he just didn't enjoy the training camp part. This obnoxious dude obviously thinks that he knows Minny's offense well enough to skip camp. He'll be facing the Packers a couple of times, hope GB rains him with insults.
Hopefully Frank Caliendo can bring back his Madden act.
"Brett Favre is the Greatest Player Ever". I mean if you cloned 22 Brett Favre's and put them on the field at the same time, I think the universe would explode".
Anyone know of a place that lists NFL caliber players that are still free agents? Guys like Chris McAllister and Marvin Harrison? I'm curious what players are still out there that can still play.
As for Favre.......Ugh. I really, really want to keep liking the guy after all his years here, but he's making it increasingly difficult with every retirement fake he makes. He knew all along he'd sign, he just didn't want to go through the 2-a-days. He did the same here his last couple of years.
I know I'm in the minority, but I'm pretty excited about seeing Favre play for the Vikings. Yes, the media coverage and constant mind changing has been ridiculous, but I think it will be fun to see what Favre can do with a team as talented as Minnesota. If healthy, he could still be a top 5 qb, and the Vikings might have the most complete team in the NFL on paper. If nothing else, it will be fun to watch the two Packers/Vikings games this year.
Favre is an ego maniac on the level of TO, Ocho, and whoever else you would like to mention. The only difference is when he disrupts a team, he does it with a beat-up ol' country boy hat & wranglers like he just hopped off the tractor as opposed to doing sit-up in the driveway or twitter. He's had to have divided his team between those who are glad he's here vs those who aren't.
Anyone who thinks he's just a good old southern boy wanting to throw the pigskin around needs to take a step back a realize this dude has $25 million reasons to comeback.

dayum. From what had been reported a few months back, it look like he had an offer and/or chance to plea bargain. And a possibility of only serving a few weeks/month. Yet instead, he elected not to plea bargain
Plax did get a plea bargain. From the ESPN.com story:
>>>Burress pleaded guilty to one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a lesser charge than he initially faced. Under a plea agreement, he agreed to a two-year prison sentence and two years of supervised release.
Burress was indicted earlier this month on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of reckless endangerment. He faced a minimum sentence of 3½ years if convicted at a trial.<<<
Good to have you back at DSP, man!
Take care,
