It looks like Bama will survive, but my god are they not worthy of being #1.
With lowly Mountain West Wyoming beating Tennessee in their house today, I must say again, the SEC is way overrated. Here are my conference rankings:
1) Big 12
2) Mountain West (BYU, Utah and TCU are extremely tough)
3) SEC (Florida is a beast)
4) Pac 10 (USC makes this conference #3....again)
5) Big Ten
6) MAC
7) WAC
Big East
9) ACC
It is sad that the MWC, MAC, and WAC do not share in the money the way they deserve.
Hopefully it will be fixed in the future.

The Big 10 is far too high. In a top 10 list I would put them at number 13. This is the worst they have ever been in My lifetime.pigpen81 wrote:It looks like Bama will survive, but my god are they not worthy of being #1.

BYU,TCU,and Utah would all have 3 losses if they played an SEC schedule. Mountain West better than the SEC? I gotta get me some of that stuff your smokingpigpen81 wrote:It looks like Bama will survive, but my god are they not worthy of being #1.

Please...how could a bad Wyoming team go into Rocky Top Tennessee and beat them? Who else is scary.....Arkansas? Ole Miss? MSU? Vandy? Georgia? LSU? Alabama? All overrated. Like always. USC, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech would rip them to shreds. The only team that stacks up is Florida.
The SEC lives off of a media generated reputation.
If any conference lives off of hype its the Big-10. I remember watching Ohio State getting sodomized earlier this year against LSU and Fox was already pimping them for next year... "Ohio State will be a better team next year." I remember hearing that and throwing up in my mouth. Thank God for Iowa.

I have nothing against the SEC other then the fact that the BCS started and Roy Kramer was the face of it, and the WAC, MWC and others are completely shut out. My alma mater, SDSU (which sucks right now BTW), is struggling to keep football because we don't get the huge windfall the BCS provides to the haves. It isn't right, it isn't fair, and it must change.
When the Big East and ACC are a part of it, and don't deserve it over the MWC...it isn't fair...UGH!
So yes, I like to point out games like Wyoming beating Tennessee.
Not one team you mentioned plays in the M. West Con. which ,according to you is a better conference than the SEC.pigpen81 wrote:snaz16 wrote:BYU,TCU,and Utah would all have 3 losses if they played an SEC schedule. Here is the alltime bowl records...some numbers for you..
So, here is the bowl game record (through 2007-2008) of the major college football conferences (based on historical conference affiliation). The first number is total bowl games. The second is wins; third is losses; fourth is ties; fifth is bowl game win percentage.
Bowls Wins Losses Ties Win %
SEC 340 184 147 9 .554
Pac-10 188 98 88 2 .527
Big Ten 202 96 105 1 .478
ACC 158 79 77 2 .506
Big 8 127 63 63 1 .500
Southwest 151 63 80 8 .444
Big 12 85 41 44 0 .482
Big East 70 38 32 0 .543
WAC 96 41 54 1 .432
As you can see from the chart, the SEC basically dominates the field as the #1 all-time top bowl conference. The Southeastern Conference has more bowl wins and a higher winning percentage than anyone else. And, it really isn't even close.
And some numbers for SEC vs Big 12...
The SEC leads the Big 12 in all-time head-to-head match-ups with a 20-17-0 (.541) record.
Over the past 10 years ('98-'07) the SEC holds a 18-16-0 (.529)
It seems media perception is born out of statistical history.
You need to get out SoCal more often. Although SD is beautiful this time of year.

Michigan's season has sucked, but we still have The Little Brown Jug.

The Texas Tech - OU game should be mighty interesting next week.
The more I watch Harrell, the more I think this kid is the best QB in college football. His arm strength, field vision, and decision making is simply spectacular. You can't say his numbers are solely due to the system tech runs. He has poise in the pocket as well as on the move and all too often finds that one open man.

I'm not that upset about the PSU loss. I wish they would have won because you can't win a national championship if you don't get there, but there's no way they are a #1 or #2 team. There's at least 10 teams that are better. Hopefully, Penn State can win its last 2 home games and go to the Rose Bowl.
I'm worried that there will be a 1999-like hangover for Penn State and I can see them losing at least 1 of the last 2 though.
I follow Penn State because I'm an alum, but really don't care much for college football outside of their games now that my cousin has graduated from West Point. It will be nice to focus most of my attention back on a version of football that decides champions on the field.
Great pics, Jackdog! I took my boys (4 and 5) to their first Penn State game this year. What fun!

I'm a UM alum, but I just have a passing interest in how the Wolverines do. I give much more support to the school where my advanced degrees are from - Rice U. Got to root for the underdog, though honestly with as lousy as the Wolverines are this year, the Owls would probably be favored against them.Leebo33 wrote:I follow Penn State because I'm an alum, but really don't care much for college football outside of their games now that my cousin has graduated from West Point. Personally, I'm just a fan of good games. Don't care who wins or loses as long as the game is entertaining. Well, take that back. I hate UT so I'll cheer for any team playing the Longhorns.
Someone explain to me how Alabama remains #1?
Florida manhandles LSU 51-21 and Alabama squeaks by them in OT and yet we are #4 and Alabama still #1. Too much emphasis on record on not
realistically looking at who is the more talented team.
That's OK...FL will take care of Alabama in the SEC title game and I will be there!!! GO GATORS!!!!

Wow, it's hard enough for the judges to assess degree of difficulty (strength of schedule). Now they have to put more emphasis on something as arcane as "talent." The more I think about it though it could be easier because all the pollsters/computer geeks would have to do is decide who was playing USC in the championship each year.JackB1 wrote:Too much emphasis on record on not

I agree Bama shouldn't be first, but Florida has no claim on the top spot. Texas Tech should be #1, not Florida. Look at the latest computer rankings (http://www.masseyratings.com/cf/compare.htm):JackB1 wrote:Someone explain to me how Alabama remains #1?

1. Texas Tech
2. Texas
3. Florida
4. Bama
5. OU
And those were the rankings going into Saturday. Tech had a much stronger opponent (OSU) than either UT or the Gators, so the disparity should widen this week. The only thing keeping Bama atop the BCS are the polls.
Record is often how you judge these things. Losing to Ole Miss, we don't deserve to be #1 or #2 with Bama and Texas Tech in front of us. Fortunately, if Florida runs the table, they're in the nat'l title game.JackB1 wrote:Someone explain to me how Alabama remains #1?
