The first level of SP has to be one of the most intense, fun, and jawdropping things I've ever experienced. This one's special, boys...

I actually had quite a different reaction to that first level. I had a tough time keeping up with my teammates, had difficulty finding room to shoot that wasn't through them, and ended up with them getting most of the kills. I felt more like I was along for the ride than that I had much to do with what was happening or really made any difference at all. The atmosphere was great, with the weather and the lighting, and it had a really nice cinematic feel, but it wasn't that much fun for me from a gameplay point of view.tealboy03 wrote:Oh...my...god...

This is, thankfully, in contrast with the next two levels, which had more balance between the urgency of having the whip cracked by the team leader and the need to actually make some kills myself; once even, I felt like I got to make a decision on my own!
Haven't tried single-player yet, but the single biggest drawback of COD games is that single-player is HEAVILY scripted. Makes for some crazy battles though.Zeppo wrote:I actually had quite a different reaction to that first level. So far, nothing has stood out as 'oh, THAT'S scripted'. There's simply so much chaos going on, it's really hard to tell.Naples39 wrote:Haven't tried single-player yet, but the single biggest drawback of COD games is that single-player is HEAVILY scripted. Last night was fun boys, sorry I didn't get in with you guys right away. I play a lot with a group of guys from Texas that I have been in a clan/friends with since SOCOM 1. So if I am playing and don't respond to invite, its either I am playing with them or my son is playing.
I played for like 3 hrs and I still haven't seen all the maps I don't think. There are a few that really stuck out to me (don't know any names) and they were fun as hell.
Didn't try the single player, I will tinker with it, but I bought this for the MP.
Also, if anyone didn't preorder, I don't think you will have too hard of a time finding it. My gamecrazy said they got 60 copies and its a small store.

I have 2:19 logged on MP (not including private DSP time last night I think), and currently sit at rank 12. The key ranks for me have been 4 (create-a-class, can use AK47), rank 5 (unlocks challenges, allowing you to upgrade weapon attachments), and rank 10 (unlocks M4). Don't quite have the red-dot for the M4, but will definitely get it very soon. Can't quite pull myself away from MP to even try campaign yet.
I'm just the opposite i can't stop playing SP. I will give MP player a try tonight. Sorry guys for not being there last night , but i just couldn't stop playing the SP modeNaples39 wrote:I have 2:19 logged on MP (not including private DSP time last night I think), and currently sit at rank 12. I know I'm probably the only one here interested in this game on the PC, so I downloaded and tried the demo today at lunch.
The hype about this game is very justified. Very intense, very cinematic, very fun -- even in the demo! And it's also cool that a new game runs acceptably on my modest rig -- 2.2 mHZ Centrino Duo, 2 GB RAM, ATI X1300 128 MB video.
Very eager to grab the full version soon.
Take care,
PK

I wasn't even going to buy this game but I figured I would miss out on a lot of Mp action if I didn't. However I am glad I did this is the most fun I have had with a game in a while.
The action is so crazy and hectic it is just totally immersing. Fighting through the streets, rpg trails going everywhere, getting caught in cross fires it's outstanding.

No cover system is the only thing I can find that it's lacking. This game is just amazing. I have been thinking about it at work all day (can't remember the last game I felt that way about) hell, when I woke up it's one of the first things to pop into my head. Wish I could of played this morning.RallyMonkey wrote:Picked it up at lunch and played SP for about an hour and wow. GRAW, RS and COD all in one game. A fantastic treat. If it had a cover system i'd give it a 10. It really might be the only thing lacking from what i can tell thus far.
I enjoyed it, but I don't find it to be the revelatory experience that some do. The pace is staggering, although that is obviously a feature not a bug
It's clearly all about killing and dying a lot and walking the level treadmill, which is cool but seriously just the Halo paradigm in fatigues.
It was wickedly disorienting at first, but I think that was as much a result of the fact that the first couple missions I did were all MOUT...a tough environment to learn to IFF, objectives etc. Things got better on the maps with more space to get my bearings and keep open fields of fire.
The lack of a cover button in any marginally realistic shooter is unacceptable, IMO. That's the only glaring technical flaw.
I like it a lot. I will continue to play it a lot because it's good clean fun. Yet I don't see anything between the lines that elevates it substantially above GoW, Halo, SR or R6.

Give it time Rob. My initial impressions of the beta were the same; nice, but kind of a rehash of old ideas. In particular, the speed of the game makes for some pretty dizzying early rounds where you don't understand your weapons and you have no feel for the fields of fire you must cover.RobVarak wrote:I enjoyed it, but I don't find it to be the revelatory experience that some do. The more you play this game, the more it grows on you. What drew my initial interest is the game's mix of realism and speed (it plays much faster than R6 or GRAW-and while I like Halo, I sometimes grow tired of bunny-hopping around with a giant axe, or it taking 30-40 rounds to drop someone with an assault rifle), but what really sucks you in is that there's a lot under the surface going on. Once you have a general feel for the maps and weapons, you start unlocking new weapons and attachments, using perks strategically, combining UAV scans with airstrikes...etc. There's a lot of depth there that you don't really appreciate at first, and quite simply, every little piece of the game is put together so perfectly.
I for one am totally hooked.
Oh, I don't doubt it. But I'm not criticizing it by lumping it in with those games. I think they're all excellent titles, and this is as well.Naples39 wrote:

FWIW, IGN gave COD4 a 9.4.
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/832/832599p4.htmlGhost Recon, Rainbow Six, and every other military-based shooter has been put on notice. There is a new standard to judge this sub-genre and it is Call of Duty 4.
Evidently the PC version will allow matches up to 32 players. 18 on PS3 and 360 are already fast enough, can't imagine 32 players in there!pk500 wrote:I know I'm probably the only one here interested in this game on the PC, so I downloaded and tried the demo today at lunch.
