I know everybody knows about the MLB demo but I thought I'd point it out here since noboby thought it deserved its own new thread.
Also, there is a demo for Everybody's Golf 5 on the European PSN. That would be Hot Shots Golf 5 to us North Americans.

I saw that yesterday. How easy is it to set up a European account? Once I figure that out, is it easy to switch between the two?ScoopBrady wrote:I know everybody knows about the MLB demo but I thought I'd point it out here since noboby thought it deserved its own new thread.![]()

Dan, just log out fromyour current account and create a new one. When you create the new one select England as your country and then fill everything out. You'll need an address in England so just google something and use that. It's really easy to switch back and forth when you have multiple PSN accounts. Just make sure your North American account stays the default.

Had a chance to play Everybody's Golf, ala Hot Shots Golf 5: Out of Bounds.
Graphically, it's looks good. Not great, but nice. It's hard to comment on the graphics, especially after playing The Show demo. There's just something about it...it doesn't have that real "crisp" look like R&C, or Unchartered. Switching between 720P and 1080P didn't seem to make a difference.
You have the selection of playing on "Easy" or "Intermediate". You then choose your selection of how you wish to play. You choose between "advanced shots", which is the new implementation or the traditional shots. I tried "advanced shots' first, and didn't really read through the instructions very well. I struggled early on, and grew frustrated with the new swing mechanism. I switched back to traditional and while I enjoyed it, it didn't feel like much of a challenge. I then decided to switch back to what's being touted and hyped as the new way to play.
After a few more blunders, I finally started to get the hang of it. Basically, it's a three step process in terms of hitting the "X" button. You start the swing by pressing "x". As the golfer goes in to their back swing, you'll notice a shimmery yellow color. That means you're at half your power. When it gets to red, you're at full power. Thus, you have to determine where to end your back swing. That part didn't give me too much trouble. The part that was difficult early on was timing the last "x" press. A fairly wide circle appears around the ball and closes quickly. You have to press the "x" button when the circle is as small as possible. If not, you can expect hitting the ball anywhere from a few feet to smacking it several feet away from the hold. Time it right of course, and you are rewarded.
After playing on easy and intermediate with the new swing mechanism, I'm sold on it. I don't think I could or wish to go back to the traditional swing. For a younger gamer, or someone whose not adept at good hand eye coordination, the traditional swing is the way to go. But, if you want a real challenge, I think seasoned golf gamers will really enjoy the advanced shots.
The demo is 3 holes for each level. They have some really neat looking holes as well. Because this game is geared towards the British, you'll hear some english accents from a couple of the characters. The presentation is what you'd expect from a Hot Shots game. There seems to be a little more dialogue than what I can remember in the past.
I very much enjoyed my time with the demo. The series itself still feels very fresh, and a lot has to do with the new swing mechanism of course. This is a golf game that takes a light hearted approach, but also presents a very good challenge. I personally would rather play this game all day long rather than a Tiger Woods game that feels rather dry IMO. Then again, I'm not a huge golf fan, and am not looking for a true sim. It's a casual game that's also a lot of fun.
First day purchase for me.

Thanks for the early impressions Dan, as an avid golfer I will get this title as well. In regards to finsihing the last X press, I thought that if you miss it the ball would eventually end up hooking or slicing but from what you said it's just a precision game. Have you tried hooking or slicing the ball then? If so how does it work? I still own the original PSP version of the game and I still play it as there's so many thing s to unlock.

A very nice blu-ray update appears on the way later this month. I like the addition of "resume play" feature. Many times I've accidentally nudged up against a button and stopped the movie I was watching.

My update went pretty fast. No problems at all. The DivX and WMV support is a nice addition. I have a number of movies in WMV format on my PC that I will now be able to play using the PS3 media server.10spro wrote:Well, the BD update is here sooner than I thought. Just updated the 2.20 firmware (it takes a long time folks), it also includes support for DivX and WMV format videos larger than 2GB in size.

Are any of you who are experiencing fast downloads using an ethernet cable? I'm not sure if it's true, but from what I've read from other gamers on other sites, it seems the downloads are faster when connected to an ethernet cable rather than wireless.
I'm using wireless and the majority of my downloads are very slow. Anything close to a gig downloads at a snails pace. It doesn't bother me too much as I usually set the download and then watch television while it crawls.

I'm using an ethernet cable and get pretty reasonable download times (10 minutes for last night's update), so you may be right about that.sportdan30 wrote:Are any of you who are experiencing fast downloads using an ethernet cable? I'm on ethernet and it's slow. Wireless would probably be slower.
But the thing that bothers me is lately, I can't do background downloading. When I try to press X when download in background button is highlighted, I get some message that I have to install the content first.
It may have something to do with a bunch of demos which I've downloaded but haven't yet installed. Not sure why that would affect new items I'm trying to download but whatever.
Sony obviously hasn't dedicated enough bandwidth to their servers where they host the downloads.
You would think they would change, when Home comes out and when they're going to push video and music downloads for sale. But who knows, with no revenues for online, there's probably little incentive.
If they start advertising on the download pages, maybe they improve things.
But on certain select games, they will have dedicated servers -- like Resistance and probably GT5P, to support smooth gameplay even with lot of players in a game. Resistance 2 is suppose to support at least 40-player games I think.

I can pretty much verify that, I was on wireless and it took forever to do anything online and streaming videos from my PC forget it. I plug in an ethernet cable and updates take maybe 5-10 minutes and I can now stream video with no issues.sportdan30 wrote:Are any of you who are experiencing fast downloads using an ethernet cable? Of course you shouldn't have to do this, especially when you tout built in Wi-Fi as a feature. Hell my Wi gets better wireless speed then my PS3.
