Talk is cheap. Really.... I hope ps3 owners have a baseball game to fall in love with, but don't think for one minute this game is going to be the end all of console baseball games. Brinkman said some awfully nice things about MLB 2k7 before it hit the shelves too.Diablo25 wrote:Chris addressing questions about franchise mode...
It's basically the same. We improved some logic, improved trades (well... hard to not improve on broken, but they're better than they *would* have been had they worked) - we made some tweaks to stamina, and durability - just trying to get things closer to what we want to see.![]()

The Show "MLB 07" Thread

We will see MizzouRah. I can honestly say I like The Show that much that if they just ported the PS2 version and upgraded the graphics this year I would be happy. It doesn't sound like that is the case. Chris stated in the first post that the AI is pretty much the same code but upgraded a bit. If that is the case - super. i love the way the PS2 version plays and that code has been tweaked for the past 3 years.MizzouRah wrote:Talk is cheap. Really.... Chris and Kolbe have been answering questions over at OS for a couple of years now, and they've given us great games each year, so at this point I feel like they've earned my confidence that they'll deliver another great baseball gameplaying experience on the PS3.
It's great seeing 1080p confirmed. I'd be happy playing the PS2 game on my PS3 the rest of the summer, and I don't think that my brain even realizes yet that things are going to get a lot better in a few weeks. I can't wait...hopefully the Cards will be playing a little better baseball in real life by then.

After playing MVP 2005 on the ps2 last night, I still like it better than The Show, but it's definitly my opinion here. I'm just tired of developers saying how great a game is (see the broken ps2 franchise mode) (see MLB 2k7) and something always makes it not so great.Diablo25 wrote:We will see MizzouRah. I'm happy for the ps3 baseball fanantics though and I really want to see some actual gameplay video and impressions from you guys.

Here is a new vid with some actual gameplay footage. Looks alot like the PS2 version (and that is good) with better graphics.

I just reinstalled MVP 2005 for the PC with the 2007 mod, and have to say that while it is still a great game, I much prefer The Show. It just feels more like baseball for reasons I can't really explain. At least the PSP version, which is nearly flawless IMHO.MizzouRah wrote:After playing MVP 2005 on the ps2 last night, I still like it better than The Show, but it's definitly my opinion here.
I think for the first time something has passed MVP's hit/outcome variety, which clinches it for me. Add to that the little touches like working scoreboards and it's pretty hard to beat in my book. I really hope I can resist the temptation to get a PS3 for this title alone.
I will agree, the hit variety and foul ball variety is definitly much better in The Show (psp). Pitching has been really tough on AS defaults with The Show, as I've been shelled vs the Mets to open up the season.. although that did happen in RL.Blublub wrote:I just reinstalled MVP 2005 for the PC with the 2007 mod, and have to say that while it is still a great game, I much prefer The Show. I'm playing both for now.

Three new gameplay vids at Gamespot. I love the look of the game.

My only experience with the Show came a couple years back on my PSP. I picked up a PS3 a week ago and rented the PS2 version of the Show last night just to see the gameplay and right out of the box i like it a lot. Are there any suggestions in terms of Options or Slider tweaks that those of you who play it regularly can suggest to optimize my experience. (I'm not a slider whore in the least, but i know it took a LOT of tweaking to make 2K7 a game i enjoyed playing).
I will be picking up the PS3 version next week but seeing that i have the game until Saturday i was hoping to get some expert advice now. Thanks.

I don't think it needs any tweaks for an enjoyable, semi-realistic experience. The game skews towards there being too many hits but over the course of a season you'll get your share of pitcher's duels. There are sliders sets like Pared's at OS that aim to reduce hits and up user walks, but I didn't like the feel of 'em and went back to HOF default. I'd rather take on the developer's idea of a challenge, as long as the in-game results aren't batsh*t crazy (like in 2K7) than someone else's idea of how hard the game should be, even if they manage to eek out some nebulously higher percentage of "realism".
I do recommend reducing the contact sliders to 0 for better hit variety and realistic hit totals.RallyMonkey wrote:My only experience with the Show came a couple years back on my PSP. I max out the pitch count slider and reduce cpu pitch aggressiveness slider to get realistic pitch counts and more walks.
I'm getting almost perfect box scores now.
Do list your sliders, what level, guess pitch, etc...skinsfan wrote:I do recommend reducing the contact sliders to 0 for better hit variety and realistic hit totals.RallyMonkey wrote:My only experience with the Show came a couple years back on my PSP. All-Star,guess pitch on,API set to default.MizzouRah wrote:Do list your sliders, what level, guess pitch, etc...skinsfan wrote:I do recommend reducing the contact sliders to 0 for better hit variety and realistic hit totals.RallyMonkey wrote:My only experience with the Show came a couple years back on my PSP. Everything is default except;
Pitch Speed is at 5(default is 10),Pitch Count at 20,Contact at 0,and cpu Pitch Aggressiveness at 5.
I use assisted fielding to help me get a jump on the ball.
Some people are making small adjustments to fielder reaction and throw accuracy, but those feel right at default to me.
Until you get a handle on controlling your runners, you may want to lower the Runner Aggression slider. It feels about right at default for the cpu runners.
I would play at default Veteran to start and get a feel for the controls and then move up,although there isn't a big difference between All-Star and Veteran.
I like the guessing game aspect of Guess Pitch feature, but guys who are real good at hitting feel it gives away too much.YMMV.
The API feature gives you pitch type and location suggestions-set to default this is hidden and can be brought up when you want.Set to On it always will show suggested type and location before you make your selection.Set to personal taste-sometimes it's good, sometimes the logic is a bit questionable.
The Plate Awareness Indicator doesn't do much for me;it looks like a cursor but doesn't act as such.I leave it off.
Well, the good looks of MLB2K7 finally wore off and the game is very boring to me now. I went back to exclusively playing The Show on the PS2 and couldn't be happier. It plays and "feels" so much more like real hardball compared to MLB2k7 it's not even funny.
gonna go throw my MLM2K7 up on Ebay now.....

I use classic baserunning and the D-Pad...I don't like using the analog sticks for running. Just choose the proper icon (square for runner on 3rd) and press down (home) when the ball is caught.JackB1 wrote:question to PS2 The Show owners.......
is there a specific way to tag up and try and score from 3rd? it seems like whenever I try it there is a delay from when I press the buttons and when the runner breaks for home. I think I use the left stick to activate the runner and then I hit L1.

Thanks, I've been playing on AS defaults, but I'm tired of getting shelled every game. May give RTTS a try this weekend.skinsfan wrote:All-Star,guess pitch on,API set to default.MizzouRah wrote:Do list your sliders, what level, guess pitch, etc...skinsfan wrote: I do recommend reducing the contact sliders to 0 for better hit variety and realistic hit totals.
