Another win for the Suns..and I know there are those out there saying that the Suns don't know how to play defense. Hm...I think the Suns are still undefeated against all the eastern coast teams who pride on defense
For all the talk about Nash,,Kolbe, and esp James, I still can't imagine a greater player in the NBA right now then Marrion. For those who have no idea who he is..look him up...his play is freekining unbelivable. And voted very low in the all star selection as is Nash.
Yup..Suns homer here...and I fully admit it, but give me one good reason why Nash should not be starting, and why Marrion should not be on team.

The Suns lost to the Wizards. So don't get too excited.azmark wrote:Hm...I think the Suns are still undefeated against all the eastern coast teams who pride on defense.
And wow...at least if you're gonna jock Marion, at least spell dude's name right. And who is Kolbe? I don't believe he grazes before and after games...but I could be wrong.
Like I said in an earlier post, when you look at the standings in the east, you need to put an asterisk by the teams that haven't done their west coast trip yet. I think out the top 4 or 5 teams in the east, the Cavs are the only team that haven't been out west yet. I expect by the end of this 7-game west coast trip they'll be lucky to be in third or fourth place.dbdynsty25 wrote:Is that really the best the east has to offer (at least by record)? Cleveland is a disaster and there is no way those guys can hang with the top 3 in the West.
You're right, they can't hang with the top 3 teams in the west yet (except for the Spurs, which they already swept this year). And I know it's hard to tell from last night, but they're better than they showed last night. They played like they penciled that game in as a loss weeks ago. Overall they're a better team than last year. They're steadily improving, but they still have a long way to go. I wouldn't call them a disaster.
It was only one game. As bad as they played last night, they're not THAT bad. Just like I doubt the Suns are as good as they played last night. They may be the best team in the league right now, but you're telling me that play like THAT every night?
It was just one of those nights.

Actually...offensively, that wasn't the greatest game by the Suns. The difference last night was on the defensive end. They usually take a few more trips down the floor off on the defensive end, knowing that they can still beat you offensively. They didn't shoot particularly well...and they turned it over quite a bit in the 2nd half...but overal, it was just a pretty good game. I've seen much better, I've seen much worse...

Suns and Mavs could both set regular season records, at least for their franchises.
Too bad they can't face each other in the finals.
It's going to come down to which one has an easier route in the playoffs, like which one avoids SA and the Lakers, which so far are playing the top contenders well.
Houston could also be a tough matchup for the top two seeds in the West if Yao and Grady are both healthy at the end of the season and throughout the playoffs.

Aunt Esther has done an outstanding job filling in for Grady while he's been hurt.wco81 wrote:

The playoffs are a long way away. As always, a lot will depend on who's healthy and how the teams are matched up. Right now, Houston is clearly in the second tier along with the Spurs. Maybe the Nuggets could join them depending on chemistry, or possibly Utah if AK47 finds his mojo. Any of these teams would be underdogs vs. Dallas or Phoenix, but stranger things have happened in the playoffs.
It'll depend also on how much the refs want to protect the stars and which ones they favor. Stoudemire and Nash both get real treatment whereas Duncan gets beat up. Nowitski too, especially in the Finals last year when Wade got all the calls.
Yao was on a good run before the injury and may have gotten that kind of status but who knows now. If they officiate him like the one year the Rockets and the Lakers played, then yeah the Rockets have no chance.
Thing I like about Houston is some of their young players are developing well. Head is becoming a clutch shooter.
A hot shooting team could upset. Typically, the Suns are willing to trade giving up bombs to the other team and betting they will outshoot them. Typically they win those shootouts. But once in awhile, the other team shoots just as well if not better.
Lakers did that for like 5 games in the series against the Suns last year. They're playing better as a team this year and their superstar will get to the FT line 10-15 times in the fourth quarter of games. They're going to be a pain for their first-round opponents.

Did you watch the series last year? The Lakers dumped the ball down low and punished the Suns because their biggest guy was 6'8 Boris Diaw. When Kurt Thomas and STAT were both out, they were in trouble against teams with bigger post players (Lakers w/ Lamar, Kwame and Clips with Brand & Kaman). That's how they Suns were stretched. The only team that can beat the Suns in a track meet are the Mavs. A team might win a game or two in a series trying to outshoot the Suns, but they will not win a 7 gamer...Dallas is the only team I think can do it.wco81 wrote:Lakers did that for like 5 games in the series against the Suns last year. I'm gay, got a problem with that?
Former NBA center John Amaechi is coming out of the closet in his new book.

Good for him, you know he's not the only one (cough*cough*Nash*cough). Awww, just kidding! Go Lakers...ScoopBrady wrote:

Geez... will there be a time where players will play hard in an NBA All-Star game ever again? The only time where players appeared like they were really playing was a stretch midway through the second quarter where the second unit for both teams were on the floor.
As odd it may seem, I found the USC vs. Arizona State game more entertaining to watch.

Nobody even pretends to play defense. One year, they actually trapped Stockton, because they didn't want him to have a good game for some reason.
And now, that laissez-faire attitude has gone to the Sophomore-Rookie game too. Maybe the only serious game this weekend was the celebrity game, which I didn't see.
But I couldn't believe TNT was actually doing a pre-game show for an exhibition.
Only caught the actual game from late 3rd quarter on. Looked like Kobe really wanted to be MVP.

It should have been Amare! He didn't show off enough to get it though. The game was definitely boring, but the one thing that's funny is that there were better dunks in the game than there were in dunk contest. Although Gerald Green off the side of the backboard was pretty tight...as was Howard's sticker dunk. How that only got 8's is beyond me.wco81 wrote:Only caught the actual game from late 3rd quarter on. Looked like Kobe really wanted to be MVP.
And BTW...who would have guess that Amare would be back at about 90% and in the All-Star game? People who heard him say that before the season started just laughed. They aren't laughing anymore.

The trade deadline came and went without changes to the balance of power. Only one contender was active but Dallas' move of Anthony Johnson is only interesting if it clears space for them to sign Scottie Pippen. Fred Jones to Portland for Juan Dixon is the definition of a minor deal.
The deadline was overshadowed by the death of Dennis Johnson. DJ had an ugly but effective game; he was a major contributor to championship teams in Seattle and Boston. It's very sad for him to go at the young age of 52.

Strange, wasn't Johnson a free agent signing? Bizzare in the first place since they have Terry and Harris.
Well Warriors couldn't stop the Grizzlies yet they won but they should at this point consider tanking the season to try to get in the top 5 and get some inside depth.
Although, if they got in as the 8th seed, they always play the Mavs well. Already beat them twice this season.

That's the NBA's retarded rule, which has led to 7-footers trying to slide in front of that circle to take charges, even on point guards, rather than trying to block their shots.
There's been injuries because of it. Surprising there haven't been brawls. There would be if you tried this cheap stunt on the playground.
Most run of the mill players are neutralized because of the charges called on them by this stupid rule. But stars like Stoudemire don't get those same charges called.

You know what would be cool wco...if you actually watched some Suns basketball. If you had, you'd know that Amare gets charging calls all the damn time. In fact I would be willing to bet that he is in the top 5 or 10 in the league for charges called against. Look it up.
I am not sure why it is a stupid rule. Before, you could take charges anywhere. Now you have to get out in front of the basket. If anything it has prevented injuries more than it has caused them. Now you don't have the little guys sliding under the big guys right under the hoop resulting in guys going ass over tea kettle because they get their legs taken out. It was a good move on the NBAs part.
