Think yourself lucky - we had the 'legendary' Clive Tyldesley and the new Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate trying to outdo each other with cliches about T&T, which can be summed up as

- they all walk slowly
- all the fans smoke ganja
- they all feel 'pride in the shirt' (which seemed odd, as at the time the camera was lucking at Chris Burchill, who's as white as me and only qualified through a dubious parental connection)

Still, Tyldesley is always an arsehole, and a massive MU fan. There is a standing sweep on the time of his first mention of 'that magical night in Barcelona' (when MU robbed Bayern in the 99 Chumps League final) at any game he commentates upon, even if neither of the teams playing have anything to do with that hateful event.

I tried turning to the mecci channel and while the picture was slightly better they were talking spanish, who new , so it was back to those two tossers from abc , Harkes team was a little better.

Do yanks realy care that some guy is the only guy to debut for his country on his birthday, thats just some of the utter meaningless crap the guy was coming up with, to think there is a guy actualy getting paid in the back ground feeding this stuff to him.

Hey i could do that let me try," Did you know Robinson is the only goalie to ever hit a jumbotron at a Footy game ,which brought the face off back to the out of bounds line wait hash mark .

Dennis up yours too no im not happy dont know why Dave is ok with it maybe hes waiting for game 2 for his outburst but one is coming before the tourney is over , unless hes just beaten into submission by these underachievers , no bottle, worse under pressure than my 10 yr old son.
So called top seed.

If those crosses hit crouch right between the eyes robinson could run the length of the field to stop it from hitting the corner flag.

Why was i expecting anything different.

Its a sad state of affairs when Germany is more inspiring to watch than England.
I couldn't give a f**k about being inspiring. England did no more than they needed to, so why bother ?

Costa Rica are far worse than Paraguay, particularly at the back, so I can't see how beating them inspires anyone, particularly factoring in conceding two goals with an offside trap that would look shoddy in a pub league.

As for making you laugh, here's another one to tickle your funny bone...the USA are in FIFA's top ten world ranking.

Jimmy,
Yes us yanks love stupid facts and figures. Call it the Bob Costas effect.

We'll tell you about Donovan's second cousins birthday is on that same day that the US beat Mexico in 2002, if you add 500 years and divide by two. And how that is relevant to the scoreline, who knows, but you know that Bob Costas is busting one out over a stat like that.

Dave,

Why so testy? For a fan who's team that just received 3 points you sure seem a bit agitated. Could it be because England didn't actually score? I kid, I kid. :D

Ivory Coast is on the attack.

But Argentina may have had the best chance, especially on that ball which might have been a goal.

Crespo scores as I type this.

Microchip in ball to indicate whether it breaks the plane?

The announcers have been horrible, and Messing is the worst of the bunch! First of all...he...sounds like...the brother...of...Christopher Walken. What's with that phrasing? And the content of his commentary is no better than his form.

I think part of the overall problem is that they don't know whom they are addressing. Is it a sophisticated soccer crowd or newbies? I've heard the offside rule explained three times today.

Ivory Coast dominates the run of play and has nothing to show for it.

Argentina has 2 goals with maybe 2 minutes of controlling play.

Great finshing by Saviola.

It sure seems like IC dominated the ball but BBC shows Argentina with 54% possession.

However, it's 8-6 shots on goal for IC, although many of those were poor or weak shots.

The pitch is green with white lines on it, there are 11 players on each team

Its like jostleing in the paint for position.

This tourney which is supposed to solve world hunger in a month is utter crap so far.

Jared did say he has a stopover in Manchester on his way out to Germany, so he might love this place so much that he doesn't bother going the rest of the way.

Not too likely, I must admit - have a good time boys.

Considering that this is only the group stage, we've already had

- a 6 goal thriller
- an upset
- a backs to the wall fighting draw
- some good play from Argentina

I've enjoyed these games more than some tournaments (a big hello to Mexico 86 and Italia 90 at this point).

Oh, and before you ask, I have a Spain v Argentina final on my predictor.

We've also seen some pretty decent officiating. The England game was the only one that I felt was sub-par in that regard.

Agree with Dave so far the games have been quite good, with the notable exception of England-Paraguay. Ivory Coast - Argentia was cracking. I think the Argentinians were expecting a tough game but the pace on Ivory Coast was astounding. Argentina were caught a number of times by those fabulous runs by the left back down the wing.

Very impressive from both sides. If the Dutch don't bring their A-game they might be going home early.

BTW, Mexico 86 wasn't that bad a tournament (apart from that nasty bit of cheating by Maradonna). Italy 90 - now that was awful. Dull, negative, defensive football - actually, quite appropriate for a tournament played in Italy me thinks.

Best wishes,

Doug

Yes sir...From the book The Simplest Game I learned that they invented negative football....

These games have been fun...Today both the 0-0 game and the Argentina hanging on game were alot of fun to watch.

A good day of soccer but there will be better ones ahead. I fell back to sleep during the 6AM game but it doesn't sound like I missed much.

T&T was like watching a tightrope walker dangle for 90 minutes. Larsson, Allback & Ibrahimovic didn't do a very good job finishing, but Sweden is an experienced side and should be better in their remaining two games.

Argentina showed enough to consider them a contender. They looked a little vulnerable to Ivory Coast's speed which may come back to haunt them later. Continuing the anti ESPN tone, the crew for the game in Hamburg was the worst of the three games today. Harkesy sounded astute compared to Shep Messing, who was about as informative as Shemp Howard and Shemp's been dead for 50 years. I had to switch to Espanol for the second half.

Damn, Jimmy, it's two days old. Plus it has been entertaining in many regards.

F*ck, take the first leg of any Champions League matchup, and those make the England-Paraguay game look like Liverpool v. AC Milan in last year's Champions League final. And England-Paraguay has been the worst game of the first two days.

So I think it's been pretty entertaining, especially the last two matches today. The Ivory Coast still will finish second in Group C -- mark it down! :)

Take care,
