That said, I'm traveling this week and playing MLB 06 on my PSP; a FAR superior game in every meaningful way (graphics - yes, the PSP graphics are BETTER than the 360 on this game; gameplay etc.)...I wish that MLB 06 had 2k's pitching system & a few other things, but it's the better game without question.
I'll agree with you 100%. In my 2 day stint with multiple copies of the game, I saw very little that I actually liked. I really wanted to have a baseball game that I could play on my 360, but I figured why beat myself over the head trying to get this awful piece of crap to work when I already had the best console baseball game ever made. The Show does everything better than 2K6. Announcing, animations, realism, and I much prefer the hitting and pitching model over 2K6's as well.
What scares me is you know that next year we will get the same game with some bug fixes and maybe some revolutionary gimmick so they can call it a new game. I never thought I would say this, but I miss EA's presence on the baseball field. I really like where they were headed with MVP before they got shutdown.
By the same token, after the awful 360 version of Madden, I am so terrified that they are going to ruin both Madden and NCAA Football on the 360 this year.

Yep. It's like our worst fears are being realized: the exclusive licenses have removed the best (at least MVP is comparable to MLB 06) baseball and football games from the market. What a great time to be a fan of baseball and football games.
it's a shame that you 360 boys can't really get to play 2K6 with all the freezing issues. I hooked up my xbox to my 42' HD TV last night and the game looked pretty nice in HD. It actually plays a pretty decent game of baseball and has lots of innovative features that I wish the other games had. I LOVE the way they made the catcher a more integral part of the game with the Inside Edge stuff. I also think the pitching system is the best of any video game yet....surpassing MVP's system even. the analog hitting is fun, but it is a bit too easy to make contact and hitting system as a whoel is overly complicated and awkward.....swing with the right stick, influence the direction with the left stick, move the right stick to the left to pull the ball, push it through to power swing, move the hitter's eye around, etc. If somebody can combine swinging with the right analog with zone hitting, then we'd really have something. All in all it's not a bad game, but most of you 360 owners wouldn't know that because of all the freezing problems. Maybe after they patch it, thier will be a "second round" of impressions on this game?
Sad thing is, I have not had even one lock up at all. The game has run flawlessly.
I agree about inside edge, I think it is a very cool feature.
But every time I play my opinion goes down a little more, because of the barely controllable fielding. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not very good at it to begin with (and I prefer auto-fielding), but I was able to use it in 2K5 with no problems at all. 2K6's is a confusing mess, and I agree with an earlier poster that you never quite feel that you are in control of the fielders. The AI picks strange ones to control, for example a left fielder when you could try a diving stop with the shortstop instead, or a center fielder when the ball is heading to the gap but is closer to the right fielder. Momentum is a good idea, but when you have 2 inside the park home runs in one game because your fielders can't pick up a ball that has come to rest against the wall, then you have a problem.
Not only that, but the audio is terrible too. I love Jon and Joe, but their commentary is often way behind what is happening on the field. And sometimes when a great play is made, they don't say a word, you can almost hear the crickets. And when the home team hits a homer, the crowd goes nuts... for about one second, then they shut right back up.
The whole thing stinks of being rushed out the door, and shame on 2K for it. I would have just let it go until the All-Star break and get a few months more work done on it. As it stands, sales of next years game will suffer I'd bet. I'm even considering now getting a copy of EA's college ball game, just for something different.
I'll give it a bit more time, in the hopes that someone somewhere can come up with slider settings that may help the fielding (I tried and failed). Barring that, it's back to the old stand-bys for me (and of course the PSP game, which is my nightly ritual now before I go to sleep!)
If I were EA, I'd make sure MVP05 gets on the backwards compatability list ASAP.

The bottom line, Jack is that The Show is hands down a better game. Why drive yourself crazy trying to make an awful game with some cool features work for you when you already have the best game on the market? I'm glad I got to try 2K6, albeit as brief as it was...it made me realize that I'm not missing a thing.

Yeah, but no game is worth the price of a PS2 and the cost of the game itself. That's my dilemma, no PS2 anymore, and the only two games I'd want to play on it are The Show and Guitar Hero.
Looks like I'll just hook up the XBox to the upstairs TV and download some updated MVP rosters from OS.
I am more worried about NCAA Football than Madden. Madden will probably be at least okay as EA does devote considerable resources to development. The game has had its ups and downs since the PS2 debut, but EA never laid a turd with Madden like 2k did with this MLB game. NCAA, on the other hand, has had one poop-a-licious year with the 2005 release, and that super-early release is concerning.
What I'd like to see is for Take Two to issue an apology to those who purchased the game, and let them know that they're going to re-release the game in one month at a discounted price of $30. In that time, they will work around the clock and not only fix the freezing issue, but also address the number of bugs in the game.
I'm sure this would infuriate a lot of people because of the delay, but it would bring a bit of credibility back to the developer.

But together those two are worth the purchase. Oodles of hours of gameplay.
I agree - I got a used PS2 on EBay for $90 and picked up The Show, Ace Combat 5, Tourist Trophy, Downhill Domination and couldn't be happier.
Besides, in a few month's, you can always resell your PS2 for $50-$75, so it's not a real costly proposal. After you play a few games of The Show, you will be very happy you picked up that PS2. (On a side note, I still have that extra PS2 Slim for $90 plus shipping )

What would you call Madden 360? That was a stinker. Not to the level of MLB 2k6 but still horrible.

I would keep mine. Who knows if the PS3 will be release for sure at the end of the year? And with WE10 coming up, it's a keeper.

I still play Madden on the 360. Even with all the flaws, it's probably my third favorite football game behind NFL 2K4 and NCAA 2004. I'm really looking forward to Madden 07. Madden 06 on Xbox is certainly better, but the giveaway glitch ruins the game.
I have little optimism for the 2K series because Kush hasn't put out a playable baseball game on any platform yet. I'm not convinced they can do it. I know EA can do it. It's only a matter of if/when.

Normally, I would agree, but that's at least $200 worth of purchases (since GH is expensive), and post-360 purchase, the missus wouldn't look kindly on it.
Unless she gets on Oprah
And Madden 360 is kind of an exception. That was clearly rushed for launch, and I think you'll see a world of improvement this August. With MLB 2k6, they had plenty of time to get that game done, it also sucked on the other platforms (which Madden 06 did not), and it continues the downward slide with 2k5.
*note* - you have to start with the sliders on All-Star as a base as there are hidden sliders that we don't know much about and can't control.
Game freeze: -50
Fielder Momentum: -50
Animations: +50
Fielding Camera Zoom: -50
Batting Camera: Custom as none are really good
Player Likeness: +50
Attention to detail: +50
Lineups: Realistic/silly (default is silly but this is a user choice)
Outfielder bullet arms: off
Number of games in franchise season two: 162
Just kidding! I'm glad you guys are enjoying it. I would consider purchasing a patched copy sometime off ebay down the road for $20-25.

I am using BigFn'Joes sliders over at OS.
I think I posted these sliders in this very thread. Might want to look back a couple pages.
Has there been any update on the freeze issue?
This may sound strange, as wonderful as MLB 2006 is, I just can't see myself playing a full 162 game season on it. Maybe because it represents baseball so well, that the game itself ends up feeling rather dry after several games.
Of course, the same could be said for MLB 2K6, but for the few innings I played on it, it's definitely has a more arcade feel to it. For me, I don't need a baseball video game that plays exactly like a sim. I'm not saying MLB 2K6 is great by any stretch of the imagination, but I can see how it appeals to some gamers.
