Match Report

Hertha Berlin 0 Newcastle 5

SOG 7, 28
Tar 3, 13
FK 5,5
Cor 2, 6
Posses. 46, 54

Newcastle: Shearer 35', 46', 72', N'Zobgia 83', Ameobi 88'

Newcastle had to take to the road to find their first win of the season, as they beat German squad Hertha Berlin 5-0. Harry Shearer was dominant with a hat-trick, and the Newcastle back line was solid depsite the absence of Steven Taylor due to fatigue and DMF Lee Bowyer, out injured.

Both sides had quality chances early, but Hertha's Marcelinho was plagued by just the slightest bit of inaccuracy which would haunt him all day. Harry Shearer finally broke the deadlock by sliding to poke home a ball which was langushing between center backs in the Hertha box. Shortly before half he followed his own shot to drive in the rebound and put the English visitors up 2-0.

Neither team made any personnel changes at half, and it remained 2-0 until the 72nd minute when hearer fired home a cannon shot from the top of the box to earn his hat trick in grand style. Seldom used sub N'zogbia powerfully headed in a beauty cross from Hugo Viana from the top of the box in the 83rd minute. Shola Ameobi finished the scoring with a precise 25 yard strike that eluded a partially screened GK in the 88th minute.

Good game, Fab. Would've been a much tighter game if Marcelinho hadn't been just a few inches off on those first half chances. Good luck the rest of the way.

That's what I get for keeping Marcellinho in with a down arrow.

I guess I shot my wad against Jared... the rest of the night was a disaster.

Match Report

Borussia Dortmund 3 - Real Madrid 1

Borussia: Smolarek 38', Rosicky 62', Akgun 86'
Madrid: Ronaldo 53'

SoG 20 : 9
SoT 12 : 3
Corners 8 : 1
Fouls 4 : 9
Possession 58 : 42

Bookings: Mejia (yellow)

A game that could have easily ended in a tie. Borussia was plagued with bad aim or an affinity for woodwork for much of the first half before Smolarek scored with a header that was actually stopped by the goalie, but apparently just cleared the line before he got to it.

Ronaldo got some space to work shortly after the start of the second half and put home a beauty from outside the box, lower right hand side. But ten minutes later Rosicky nailed a free kick into the upper right hand corner, giving Borussia a lead it would never relinquish. With no more then ten minutes left in the match, #17 for R.M. (was that Van Nistelrooy?) sent one off the right woodwork which then bounced off the back of the goalie and rolled slowly back towards goal. Borussia's goalie scrambled back and prevented the equalizer by no more than a fraction of an inch. A few minutes later, Akgun put it away, taking the keeper one on one and getting a clear shot at goal.

Good game, Cloud! Lots of ass-puckering moments.

Boro move on to the DSP League Cup finals with a 2-1 win over Leeb's Bayern Munich.

Great game Leebo...I had to hang on for dear life at the end.

Rob, lets get our Tyneside Derby in for the Cup title.

The random draw results in Middlesbrough as the home side, Newcastle the visitors. Now, this being the Final, you could choose to play this game in a stadium other than your own home stadium, but I can't think of a good choice off the top of my head, so I'll leave it up to you. But pigpen is home so he hosts the game in any case.

I inputted the final score into the bracket, but don't know what half the goals were so that info can be added later. We aren't keeping individual stats for the Cup competition, just team goals. Bookings and injuries should be noted here, but it looks like you had none of either.

And remember to set the game up with full Extra Time, no Golden goal, and PKs after.

Good luck in the Final, guys!

Excellent! I was hoping for a re-match after our excellent second league game last season.

As my dad likes to say, the drama's higher than a depot stove!

10:30pm Central tonight ok for you, Pigpen?

Hey,

I can't guarantee a time because I've got a family dinner tonight, but I will post here as soon as I get home. It should be around 9:30-10:00. I can stay up and play until 12:30am or so.

D2, I'd love to play a couple tonight starting at 9:30 Eastern. Can anyone play? If not tonight any night this week at 9 or 10 Eastern is best, but I can play later if need be.

Mike has unfortunately caught me at a few bad times, but if you see me online feel free to send me a message to setup a game. I'm usually playing a game I can quit.

I may be able to get a game in around that time, maybe more like 10:30EDT rather than 10 (we go back from daylight time to standard time on Oct. 29). But it might depend on the baseball game, to be honest. If not I should be around for a game Sunday evening or (it being the first-half) sometime next week.

Other DSPremiership peeps - I should be able to play any evening this week that the Mets aren't playing.
