Apparently the PS4 won't have suspend/sleep mode at launch - that will come at a later date. :/
Also lot of rumors flying around that several launch games on both systems are running at sub-1080p resolutions.

I don't think it was ever going to be the case that 1080p was going to be universal. Developers can render in either resolution but in 720p, they'd have more effects, anti-aliasing and possibly higher framerates.
Remember that most games this generation weren't even rendered at 720p, just scaled upwards.
This is a relatively modest bump in performance, using mostly laptop chipsets for reduced power consumption.
Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
Was disappointed to see that both next gen systems are only going to have an 8 person party limit, thought for sure Xbox would have upped their max from current gen.

Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
Buy 2 get 1 free PS4 games at Target at launch. Not too shabby for games that have been out for three months already. LOL. They should be that price.

More than 8 in a party would be pretty unwieldy, I think. Not that I have any nights where there are more than 4-5 friends in a given game anyway.

Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
Supposedly that Target B2G1 free deal applies to all video games including XONE games.
Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
That would be a good deal but not sure if there are 3 good launch games.
Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
I think it would be dumb to give folks a free game for buying Forza and Dead Rising 3, both of which will sell just fine without a bonus game.
And in other news, Titanfall just went exclusive to Xbox and PC. PS4 will not get a version.

Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
The Sony Store in the Eaton Centre (in Toronto) has a demo PS4 and since it's the Sony store, NO ONE IS THERE! I got a good 20 minutes with FIFA 14 on the PS4 and only had to leave because I had to pick up my daughter. Unfortunately, unlike the XB1 kiosk guy who was super cool about us playing around with the OS, when I hit the PS button and tried to go into the menu one of the poor salesmen bolted over to me in a panic to cease and desist.
Main thing for me was checking out the PS4 controller. It's notably bigger than the Dual Shock 3 and has a bit more heft. The analog sticks are further apart but I still prefer the split/staggered sticks of the Xbox controller. The analog L2 and R2 triggers are much, much better than the Dual Shock 3 - noticed I used the word 'trigger' and not button, because they are actually triggers now. Push comes to shove though, I still prefer the bigger triggers ('bigger' in that they have more throw - you can push them in further/deeper) on the Xbox. Those triggers are actually a bit smaller on the XBOX ONE controller than the 360 version but are still better than the PS4.
I had a complete brain-fart and didn't even think to try the middle touchpad I until I had already left the store! Doh!
Overall, it's a really nice controller and a massive upgrade on the DS3 but I still think the 360 controller is king.
The system itself looks incredibly cool - much nicer looking than the cable box that is the XB1.
FIFA 14 on PS4 looks stunning. Along with the increased resolution there's much more detail in the pitch, crowds, and player faces. Instant replays with the close up angles are mouth-watering. The animations also seem even smoother than the current-gen versions. Not enough of a change to make me double dip with FIFA but as long as the feature set is the same, you'd probably want to go with the next-gen version.
I left fairly impressed but since there are no real PS4 launch exclusives I'm into (Killzone SF looks neat but I'm going to be playing Battlefield) I think I might actually cancel my pre-order and go with the XB1 for now. I have such a backlog of PC, 360 and even a few PS3 games to play that I can't justify having a console that I'm not going to use much (even if it is a new toy). Also, the differences between the PS4 and XB1 versions of BF4 aren't enough for me to want to play with an inferior (just IMO) controller and no Xbox Live.

Ditto! Also enjoyed your xbox one article. (http://maximumpixelation.com/2013/10/26 ... pressions/)RobVarak wrote:Great stuff, Macca. Thanks!
Considering my massive backlog, I also won't be keeping both console preorders. My decision to go with the Xbox is in part due to knowing there will be a few friends also making the transtition for BF4 and Xbox One online gaming. An improved Kinect is also appealling and sets it apart from PS4. So, like last time it'll be Xbox first and then PS later on.
Reading up on BF4 and Black Flag, which I'm waiting on, is getting me more excited for Nov. 22!

Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
THIS is exactly what worries me about the Xbox One w/ regards to horsepower. COD is upscaling on the One to hit the target frame rate of 60, where they do native res on the PS4.
""Hey, been on the road last couple weeks so haven't had a chance to update, but wanted to confirm that for Xbox One we're 1080p upscaled from 720p. And, we're native 1080p on PS4. "Still on the road, but glad to see the great reception to [Call of Duty: Ghosts co-op mode] Extinction. Can't wait for next week's launch."

That bothers be a bit also, along with another article I read on IGN stating that with BF4 graphics PC > PS4 > Xbox One.dbdynsty25 wrote:THIS is exactly what worries me about the Xbox One w/ regards to horsepower. I'm going to stick with Xbox One to start off anyway. I can always switch to PS4 later on if it proves to be that much better. Or maybe this Steam OS/Steam Box will get me to finally hook up a PC to my TV.

Obviously this is a timing thing. Want to get people excited about an exclusive game (hell, genre since the Xbox One won't have a baseball game), that can get people to pick the PS4 over the One. Nothing wrong with that.sportdan30 wrote:MLB 14 The Show info coming November 4th!

Interesting read and some of this I didn't know
The PS4 won't play CD's
The PS4 system does not support client functionality for media servers.
Yes, for a limited time and with a $9.99 upgrade fee, you can digitally “upgrade” your purchase of three currently supported games: Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, and Battlefield 4 to its full PS4 version. Click here for further details.
Will PS4 allow me to suspend and resume my progress across different games?
This feature will not be available at launch.

Don't look now, but there appears to be reported problems with the Xbox One as well. Could be in for a rough start quality wise in the beginning.....I guess we won't know until we have the systems hooked up.
"There’s a rumor going around that the Xbox One isn’t ready. That the Software Development Kit is unreliable and buggy, that the OS and Xbox Live won’t work smoothly at launch, and that it probably could have benefited from a longer development time."

Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
It's inevitable that both consoles are going to have their problems. The PS4 is going to have a huge download initially to add features, which is a little scary. That's what happens to the first adopters of these systems unfortunately. Hopefully they will be minor.

Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
These reports are creating the impression that both systems are damn near beta upon launch, desperately needing release day patches. Hopefu lly neither system suffers from a hardware flaw as hideous as the RROD with the original 360 boxes.
Are there sliders for the Xbone and PS4?

Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
If I buy into next gen at all, the good news is that both systems will be much more reliable by the time I do.
But as it stands, I'm just really not as interested in jumping into another game machine...at all. I've got my 360, it'll be supported for the next few years, and when it's not...I dunno. I know for sure that I'm not plunking down 400 or 500 bones for a new machine that hasn't been truly proven. My 360 is pretty new, it runs well, and I'm completely satisfied with what I have and what I can still purchase that I haven't played.
I hope both systems are great, but it's not gonna bother me if they're not. I'll still be playing Splinter Cell and GTA 5 for the foreseeable future...

At best a rumor. Issues reported end of last month (September)? "Maybe it will be fixed, maybe it wont?"
The comments run between vulgar, stupid and funny, including some inside info on PS4:
my source good. he say that ps4 cloud is literal cloud, must wait for good weather conditions for streaming ps1 games. but ps1 games are electronic! not evaporative. so how to transfer? sony engineers do not know.

Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
Hey guys...Thought I'd chime in after a long parental leave and hence break from the forums (let me guess, you're all thinking "who's this guy again?").
I think I will keep my PS4 pre-order, even though like some of you, I could be happy with my current console (PS3) for the next couple of years if need be. I have a bunch of titles - GTA5, Beyond, Walking Dead, Tomb Raider that I will have to play alongside the next gen.
In terms of the PS4/XB1 decision - you obviously can't go wrong with either. However, I feel like I'm already a bit entrenched in the Sony ecosystem. My Vita (which I love when I play, but don't play too often) has the potential for remote-play which is great. Additionally, most of my games on the Vita are PS Plus freebies. Hence, I'd want to keep my PS Plus membership to keep those games running, in addition to some PS3 freebies.
Not being an online gamer or into FPS', the decision gets even easier. Although I may prefer XB1's launch titles at this point (thanks to delays in Watch Dogs and Driveclub!)
Anyways, the only decision now is which game to pick up at launch. I'm hoping to keep it at one to keep the initial launch costs down, but we'll see. It's between:
-Killzone: (front-runner due to it's sci-fi feel, and that it LOOKS like a next-gen game. I want my first PS4 experience to be not only filled with great gameplay, but with moments where I'm simply staring at a tree for 5 minutes because I can't believe how good it looks)
-Assassin's Creed: This franchise has always been one that I thought I would love but have never played deep into them for whatever reason. Glad to see the new one getting great reviews - it seems a bit like GTA5, in that the world is more exciting than previous ones and that it doesn't take itself as seriously.
-FIFA or NBA2K: Although I've been sports gaming less and less these days, I'm always interesting in a well done sim.
What launch titles are you guys considering?
