 ....Good point.

Are you sure they are gone altogether? They were at the confederation Cup last year. At least one set was anyway. The one guy, his name I cant remember, made me want to smash my TV.

Edit: It was something like delladildo...

JP Dellacamera, also the voice of the Atlanta Thrashers. He has been relegated to calling WC games on ESPN Radio, along with the king of the "old onion bag," Tommy Smyth.

My favorite Kiwis have already begun celebrating their last minute draw.

No goals in Portugal-Ivory Coast? Let's hope teams bring their shooting boots to the second round of group stage matches.

Amazing as in gut wrenching and totally against the run of play? :)

Kiwis, the 1950's called. They want their football back!

<<<---Bitter.

Sadly par for the course in this dull tourney so far. I've only seen about 3 teams capable of or interested in stringing together more than 4 passes. And when 2 of those teams are S. Korea and Slovakia it doesn't bode well. LOL

Not much happening in this game. A snoozefest, Ronaldo had a really good chance in the 1st half, another header by Deco but overall neither keeper was tested. Good to see Drogba cleared to play.

A player that may not be as fortunate and may have played his last game in this WC is Buffon. His back issues are serious and his absence would be a big blow for Italy.

That's what happens when you pin your hopes on an aging keeper. As an Oilers' fan, I know the feeling. :)

He's only 32! That's barely in his prime as far as goalkeepers are considered. I hope his bad back doesn't stop him from playing.

Yeah, but Gigi has a LOT of mileage on him. Made his Serie A debut in 1995, at age 17. 100-plus senior caps, too.

Dude is still top 3 in the world in my book. He's had a similar injury a couple of years ago, it seems to be a sciatic nerve, hope he can return for the next stage.

Buffon is one of those athletes who make me feel really old. I only recently found out that he's a month younger than me. For some reason I had assumed he was getting close to 40.

I hope Brazil puts in 12. Something to make up for the lack of goals.

Not totally - Smeltz should have tied it up in the 88th minute.

By that logic, the Slovaks should have been up 4-0 by that point. :) They had far better chances and played fluid football as opposed to that boot and scoot drudgery of the all-whites.

Their goal was clearly offside though. Stunned that the linesman allowed it, as the modus operandi for this tournament seems to be erring on the side of raising the flag.

Seriously though, best of luck to the Kiwis going forward. It was great to see their reactions at getting their first ever WC point.

I'm predicting more drudgery and a 2-0 Brazil scoreline. The second will be scored late and pundits will gnash teeth about the absence of joga bonito and the certain demise of the Brazilians. Brazil will go on to win the tournament despite this nonsense.

Not to be too specific or anything. :)
