The streaming youtube show from madison square garden was pretty cool last night.

Great album for sure. Are you familiar with the band Dungen? Tame Imapala is basically the american version of that band.
Nope! I must check it out. Thanks for the tip!

I'm not a rap or hip-hop fan -- far from it. But I'm really digging The Roots' new album. Great mix of funk, soul, R&B and hip-hop, which I'm learning has been the band's sonic recipe for a decade. A cool listen.

I saw the Roots open for Wilco about 4 years ago. Great live band.

Anyone watch the Rush biography on palladia last night? not sure if its a new dvd or what but i really enjoyed it.
Having put them to one side for quite some time and hearing PK talk about 2112 the other day id forgot how awesome some of that early stuff was.
seeing Rush with Opening act Max Webster on one of the venues was a tremendous flash back to simpler times for me i believe that may have been the Hemispheres album tour which is also my fave album i think and then to hear Kirk Hamitt talk about Villa Strangiato and to hear Lifeson play it again was the highlight for me id forgot just how moving that solo is, really got me that did.
Who new that the first Rush album i bought Caress of steel was a flop and they almost gave up after that, i thought it was a great album, Necromancer took me on many a journey.

Anyway if you are even the slightest Rush fan you gotta check it out, what a movie.

Sorry, Carry on.

CRAP! I missed it?!?!? I'm seeing them next Monday night at a cool, smaller venue on Chicago's lakefront (next to Soldiers Filed).

Not new music but new to me so I thought I'd share. I stumbled across the Budos Band, an instrumental funk band, recently and they're pretty damned good. Here is a sampling:

They have a new album coming out soon and I cannot wait now.

New Budos is out tomorrow! The first is still my favorite but it's all good.

The Rush documentary "Beyond the Lighted Stage" is on DVD and comes with a second disc packed with live performances and deleted stuff. Nice package for under $20.

Just found out that Dax Riggs came out with a new one yesterday. For those unfamiliar with Dax I highly recommend checking his stuff out. He was in Acid Bath, Agents of Oblivion, and deadboy and the Elephantmen. Good stuff.

Here's a great song from the Agents of Oblivion album:

JJ Grey and Mofro have a new album coming out on the 24th! What an amazing blues voice. Just check out his pipes on "Everything Good is Bad" from Orange Blossoms. 8O

Ah, I was just listening to "Country Ghetto" the other day while working around the yard. That's a great record by JJ Grey and Mofro, even better than "Orange Blossoms," I think.

Thanks for the tip! Love JJ and Mofro. :)

This is a pretty damn good live version of "Circles," one of my favorite songs off "Country Ghetto."

And a superb live version of "War," another great tune from "Country Ghetto."

Glad to see there's another fan of JJ and Mofro. Dude has superb pipes, indeed!

Here's a link if you want to hear the entire "Country Ghetto" album on Grooveshark:

There also are links to JJ and Mofro's other albums there.

Saw My Morning Jacket tonight. They played some new stuff. Very cool. A mix of alt-country 'traveling' kind of songs & some other 'sonic' weirdness.

Didn't even realize MMJ was touring -- I'll have to keep my eye out for them as that's one band I haven't seen that I'd really like to.

I just grabbed tickets this morning to see the best new band from the last 10 years, IMO, Mumford and Sons, who are coming to a small club here in Atlanta in November. Can't wait to see 'em.

I'm liking the new release from the Black Crowes, called Croweology, quite a bit. I liked their first couple of albums but didn't really keep up with them much over the years. This new one's a collection of songs from all of their albums, redone mostly-acoustic, so it's good for someone like me who doesn't have this stuff elsewhere.

Digging the New Arcade Fire. It's not Neon Bible or Funeral. I think Neon Bible from top to bottom was on of those rare complete albums. I don't think The Suburbs is a complete album but I'll give it some more time. It has 4-7 really solid tracks.

Took me a while, but I like it too. I'm glad they shook-off that weird Springsteen-vibe from Neon Bible.

New album from The Sword called Warp Riders hits the streets today. Before, they were kind of a Sabbath-y stoner doom crew, but the new one opens up their sound quite a bit, with a major Southern Rock vibe. Reminds me a lot of Clutch's From Beale Street to Oblivion, only heavier on the metal and lighter on the ZZ Top.

Scoop & PK...I'm totally digging JJ Grey & Mofro. I'd never heard of him/them before you guys posted those videos a few days back. I sampled some stuff on youtube and picked up a couple albums recently. I'm definitely a fan...now I just gotta find a good copy of Georgia Warhorse...the copy on iTunes supposedly has issues. Maybe I'll actually go buy a copy at the actual store. Haven't done that in years! Thanks guys.

Glad you're digging it, DB. I can't remember how I discovered JJ and Mofro a couple of years ago, but I'm glad I did! :)

A guilty pop pleasure. Definitely a Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac vibe on this superb tune from Lissie's new album:

She's easy on the eyes, too. :)

If anyone hasn't seen this yet, I found it be incredible. Kind of a new wave of interactive art. They say it's for the opera browser, but it worked great with firefox for me.

Saw Robert Randolph and the Family Band tonight live in Syracuse. One of the best live shows I've ever seen. F*CKING KILLER. A pulsating, charismatic, rousing, incredible live act. :)

Watched "Away We Go" the other night and really enjoyed the soundtrack. Come to find out it's done by a single artist - Alexi Murdoch. The album is a soothing acoustic set with some nice guitar work.

Also check out the latest from ex-Belle and Sebastian cutie Isobel Campbell. She has a new album "Hawk" that just came out.

Been listening to a lot of Balkan Beat Box lately as well. Kind of hip-hoppish but with a lot of arab influence.
