I think Jack is the only longtime Jets fan here, and Packer fans (much like STL Cardinals' fans in baseball) are just too nice of people to talk s*** to, gotta start something with someone -- it's the playoffs.Leebo33 wrote:LOLNaples39 wrote:It's a shame the eagles got eliminated so quickly so Michael Vick couldn't be a part of this discussion of which team has the worst human being at QB.
Why is a Steelers fan getting into a flame war with a bunch of Bears fans? I haven't seen a Bears jersey outside of Heinz Field or Three Rivers Stadium in this state since I owned a Payton (man that guy was friggin' awesome) jersey when I was in grade school.
Besides, I'm still bitter about Cun tler hanging one on the Stillers last season -- a game the Stillers should've won and one that helped keep them out of the playoffs. Beating them in the SB this year would be sweet. If they do, maybe I'll get something new for my office to go next to the framed photo I have hanging in there now of Bettis running over Ulracher in the snow game from a few years ago.

I think we'll see grind it out, defensive championship games. I can't imagine the score is going to be that high with the field in Chicago.
And GB and Chicago's offense could show up missing. Both teams have had anemic steaks this season.
Re: NFL Season 2010
I've never felt like the Steelers were a great team this year. They've always seemed like a pretty good team that finds a way to win close games at the end. I guess the same thing could be said about their team two years ago that won the Super Bowl, so maybe you really don't need to be a great team to win a championship now.
I think the bravado and confidence everyone is hearing from their fans now is mostly based on not having to play the Patriots, rather than thinking the Steelers are a great team all of a sudden. Nothing against the Jets, but the Steelers just do not match up well with New England, and as soon as the Ravens game ended last weekend I was already hoping they wouldn't be embarrassed too badly in the AFC championship game. The Steelers do match up with the Jets well on the other hand, and as a fan I've gone from just being happy to have ended the Ravens run to thinking another Super Bowl title is a good possibility.
Rex has proven to be a smart coach though and I'm sure he will be looking at how New England has defended Pittsburgh in the past. I wouldn't at all be surprised to see a 3 man rush (especially against the Steelers terrible pass protection) with everyone else dropping back to confuse Ben. On the other hand, the Eagles dominated the Steelers a couple of years ago by blitzing every play and amassing something like 9 sacks and holding them to a couple of field goals. I just hope the Steelers are able to hit on one or two big plays, and not give up a killer one against them like the Brad Smith kick return touchdown when they played earlier this year.
I don't really have a rooting interest in the Bears-Packers game, as they are probably my two favorite NFC teams (which I'm sure makes no sense to the real fans of either team), but I am surprised at the lack of respect Chicago is getting. Green Bay has been hot the past couple of games, but I like the Bears to win on Sunday.
And if we see a Steelers-Bears Super Bowl, what does that mean for upcoming free agent offensive linemen? Their stock may be about to plummet.

Re: NFL Season 2010
Pittsburgh's got more than enough weapons on both sides of the ball to beat anybody in football. Special teams, however, are usually their bugaboo in championship games -- and we've already seen signs of that this year. I just hope it doesn't come down to poor special teams or any bad calls from the refs on Sunday night.
Re: NFL Season 2010
If you drop back 8 into coverage, Ben will just pump fake 3 times on every pass play and eventually get someone wide open.
Jets will have to mix it up.

Or take off and scramble for a few yards. Mixing it up -- differently than they did against Brady, who is no threat to run -- will be key for the Jets.wco81 wrote:If you drop back 8 into coverage, Ben will just pump fake 3 times on every pass play and eventually get someone wide open.

Maybe I'm a bit old and not a Bears fan but isn't Jim McMahon held in high esteem as a great Bears QB? He did win a Super Bowl and take the Bears to the playoffs a few times. I totally agree....and that goes for the Pats. I know the Pats offense was damn potent but their defense was nothing special. If you are going to be a team nobody expects to lose you better be damn good on both sides of the ball. In New England's case 1 out of 2 isn't bad.GTHobbes wrote:Pittsburgh's got more than enough weapons on both sides of the ball to beat anybody in football.

He was there. He was the qb. He did nothing to ruin their chances but there are VERY MANY qbs who could have hoisted the trophy on that Defensive lead, FB dive, Hb run oriented team..... Manage the game and be a big dickhead at the same time is a rare feat...Gotta give McMahon credit for pulling that off..
EDIT: Memories. Not to dis the punkass qb too much but there were RARE flashes of qb brilliance like the game that he came in at Minnesota and launched the real life ballerina willie gault into the end zone.

Re: NFL Season 2010
You guys need to read this book if you're Bears fans. It's fascinating really...even to a non-Bears fan. The biggest thing I got from it (my brother read it and told me about it since he's the Bears fan), the Bears filmed the Super Bowl Shuffle the day after Miami ended their winning streak and chance at the undefeated season. Oh and that Buddy Ryan and Ditka absolutely despised each other...so much in that at Buddy Ryan's Eagles press conference in the offseason when he became head coach, someone asked him how Mike Ditka helped mold him into a coach and he said who's that? LOL. Good stuff.

Yes, good stuff ! ......I was 19 yrs old at the time and crazed NFL fan I is, remember the s*** like yesterday.dbdynsty25 wrote:so much in that at Buddy Ryan's Eagles press conference in the offseason when he became head coach, someone asked him how Mike Ditka helped mold him into a coach and he said who's that? The defensive guys didnt even know who Ditka was.
It was part of Ditkas hiring. Hallas told him as condition he could NOT touch the defense. If you ever watch the highlight film of SB XX, you see the defense carrying Buddy Ryan off of the field after the win...That is unheard of.
The thing about Ryan is...He was a defensive coach on the Jets team that won the greatest upset in NFL history in SB III when they beat the Colts.
Quite a legacy eh?

Re: NFL Season 2010
He definitely is. I love Jim McMahon but when you really look at him as a quarterback he was good but not great. He had that intangible winning attitude and leadership but skillwise he wasn't an all-time great quarterback. He is beloved because of his personality and the fact that he won a Super Bowl. Cutler has all of the skills to be an elite quarterback but needs to be consistent. I think some consistency at Offensive Coordinator for him will help his cause. He may never be an elite quarterback but I do think he can be a franchise quarterback, something the Bears haven't had since McMahon. If we get 8-10 years out of Cutler I would be thrilled.Diablo25 wrote:Maybe I'm a bit old and not a Bears fan but isn't Jim McMahon held in high esteem as a great Bears QB? McMahon also had Peyton. A running back is the most important weapon for a QB. Cutler has a decent run game but I have to go with Scoop. I think Cutler is largely the cause for the Bears success. Well that and the Bears have had less injuries on D than in the past few seasons. He's not like Peyton M. where he's the only reason but if the the Bears still had Orton, they probably would have missed the playoffs.
No I'm not a bitter Broncos fan!
Re: NFL Season 2010
The joke there is that Kramer was actually the Bears career leader in QB rating until Cutler:Diablo25 wrote:Maybe I'm a bit old and not a Bears fan but isn't Jim McMahon held in high esteem as a great Bears QB? Cutler: 80.9
Kramer: 80.7
McMahon: 80.4
Kramer also has the best single season passing and passing TD records for a Bear. That's how dire the Bears QB situation has been historically.

I remember that. That was when Wannestead was the Bears coach right?. That whole era was a train wreck.
Wasn't Harbaugh one of their better qb's?

"Namaths pulling for Pittsburgh"
"Joe may be the only Namath pulling for the Jets on Sunday. Broadway Joe hails from Beaver Falls, Pa., a suburb 40 miles north of Pittsburgh, and his brother, Frank, told Newsday Thursday that there are about 30 Namaths still residing in the area. So when the Jets meet the Steelers in the AFC Championship Game Sunday night in Pittsburgh, which team will the rest of the Namath family be rooting for? "If Joe was playing for the Jets, we'd be bleeding green and rooting for Joe and pulling for the Jets," Frank Namath said. "But right now we want the Steelers to win. It's where we live."

if the 2011 Superbowl matchup is Chicago vs Pittsburgh, it need to be re-named the DSP Bowl. Cuz it seem like there are more Bears/Steelers fans on the site then the other NFL teams combined
