Got away light with a 1-0 defeat there, still all to play for.

Wenger was obviously playing Bendtner as a handicap or something, he's like the anti-Messi...you can take your eyes off him and know that he'll do bugger all.

probably the first time I've heard the CL anthem before a match. Usually it is drowned out.

Cheers mate. Safe despite a brilliantly heroic last-day attempt to get ourselves relegated. We were incredibly lucky that Northampton's last game was Leeds away, because it meant at least one of the results that had to go against us probably wouldn't.

Indeed, good job for Hartlepool.

Meanwhile, get hold of a feed of El Classico, and watch in agony as one team's defenders are torn apart and fed to the wolves. No spoilers, but there be plenty of goals :D

Not sure about it being a good match, it wasn't even a contest....Sergio Ramos and Gabriele Heinze were having their own 'which of us is the world's shitest fullback' contest, and when you get beat 6-2 at home and your keeper is your man of the match, then that says it all.

Still reckon Chelsea will do 'em this week.

And following on from yesterday's contest, Bassong and Collocini have spent their afternoon at Anfield having a 'which of us is the world's shitest centre back' contest.

The 'which of us is the world's most stupid, reckless and selfish' midfielder contest was, however, settled as a walkover....Joey Barton's ludicrous challenge at the end of a game they weren't going to get anything from will now see him banned from games where they might expect something, and so once again, Joey takes the crown - or if not the crown, then at least the biscuit.

Best moment of the day for Shearer - Liverpool fans singing "You should have stayed on the telly" at him.

Damnit, Dave beat me to it - I was laughing my ass off at the chant!

Hope Xabi is okay.

What an absolutely gutless performance by Newcastle, could and should have been 6-0. The shots were 31-5....

Well, Bassong has been really good on the whole of the season. Collo on the other hand has been absolutely pathetic and slow virtually every match. I don't know how many times Bassong has bailed out his fellow mates this year, but it's a high number.

Barton will never see the pitch again in a NUFC uniform. Shearer's remarks after the game were very pointed toward Barton and it is clear he's pissed with that POS. I don't think it would have mattered what the lieup was, but Shearer clearly assed up by not starting Jonas. Gutierrez is one of the few bright spots on this club. I also do not understand Shearer's love affair with Butt.

Overall this was a dismal performance. I was glad that Shearer downplayed the atrocious reffing, as bad as it was. NUFC put on one of the worst displays of football of the season today. No passion. No pride. No sense of urgency. Liverpool are clearly the better side, but there is no excuse for half-assing things. The score should have been much worse, but thankfully the bar was the best defender for the Magpies today. This is the most disgusted I have been with a performance in a long while, and I have plenty to choose from.

Leeds vs Millwall in the playoffs....good job the troops are returning.

Wolves and Birmingham go up, Sheff U, Reading, Burnley and Preston in playoffs.

Charlton, Norwich both go down - shame about Norwich, though never had a great deal of interest in Charlton.

Just go to Burnley, and you'll feel like you've gone back in time.

Didn't see this one coming.

Marcus Tudgay wins PFA Fans' Championship Player of the Season. not bad for my Owls. No wonder he hasn't signed that extension yet.

With Van Persie set to slot back up front for Arsenal, MU will sit back and count on their counterattack of course. Hope the home team can score more than one.

They'd better score a lot bleeding more than 1 the way it stands.

One trophy in 5 years for Professor Wenger and his kids (who are largely, in truth, nicked from other teams youth setups). Ponce about all you want, but they have no grit. Their Johnny-come-lately fans will be moaning like anything tomorrow, I bet....they'll all be getting an early night, as they haven't exactly stopped behind to cheer on their team.

That was one serious beat down by ManU and as usual Ronaldo was at his usual self creating havoc and scoring goal. 8)

Boy they're a faithful bunch. Sure it was like watching men play against boys but where's the support? Can't understand Milan's interest in Adebayor, important game and all and another disappearing act.
