Burnout 3 Impressions (Release Version)

I'll probably be online as well. Last night, I played BO3 for 2 and a half hours and kept telling myself around the hour and half mark, one more race...one more race. The wife kept commenting "Quit swearing like a sailor!". Some of those cars are just ridiculously fast!

finally played some online last night and i must say, i had an absolute blast

i only did a few road rage races, but was able to experience both sides and talk about crazy. everyone is laughing and having a good time, even those who get knocked out early. speeding through traffic at an insanely fast speed only to t-bone a bus and listening to the guy follow you loose it on the other end of his headset is well worth the price of admission.

the best part of this driving game is no matter who you play, they cant really cheese. if you played a random online game in TOCA, some idiot runs you off in the first turn you end up with a bitter taste in your mouth the rest of the race. but here, it really doesnt matter since payback is simple and sweet

i have played what feels like hours in the single player mode and checked my percent complete and was only at 20%, i almost dropped the controller. i could have sworn i was at least 50% through the game, but i guess thats what happens when you try to get gold on everything.

the only negative i can give the game, but this has been the case for every burnout game...the excessive loading screens. i guess they have to reset the level or something. I thought by now, especially with the xbox and the harddrive, they would be almost non-existant.

but besides that, 2 thumbs up

Glad to see everyone wanting to play. It was a virtual DSP ghostown over the weekend on this game.
I will send out invites to the first 5 folks I see online (or that posted here in order if more than 5 are on already). If we have two rooms, we should send a chat message to the host of the second room and swap players for some races.

The beauty of the game is that it really doesn't matter if you're in a random room or playing with the fellas from DSP. Of course, I'd rather race with guys I'm familiar with, but because of the make-up the game, everyone has an excellent time. I couldn't say that with Toca 2 for example. Thus, if there's no one from DSP around, I know I'll still get in some fun times with BO3.

Scott,

One of the best impulse purchases in a long long time. Not to mention one of the most enjoyable online experiences as well. I enjoyed TOCA 2 immensely, but I've discovered when it comes to racers, I prefer the arcade style. This one by far fits the bill. It reminds me of sitting next to a handful of guys at the arcade all playing the same game and just laughing it up.

What's rather disappointing though is with all new releases, after a few weeks of a new title such as BO3, the online community slowly withers away. Not because the replay value isn't extremely high, but the mass production of new games is absolutely booming.

Dan:

That's a great point. And it's one of the reasons I'm holding off on any potential purchase of Burnout 3.

When it comes to XBL games, I either want a game that will have a ton of staying power online with the DSP crew, has satisifying games against random people or both.

I'm still skeptical that BO3 will have a big DSP core group online after a few weeks, and I also think it has the potential to become the next PGR 2 or Midtown Madness 3, a really fun game initially on XBL that got overrun by teen punks once us old-fart WASPs and Catholics left for other games.

Hell, I never saw more than four DSPers playing BO3 last weekend on XBL, its first weekend on the market.

That makes me leery. We shall see!

Conversely, the staying power of such games as TOCA 2 and GR:IT in here is fantastic. Lord, seems like we've been playing both of those games online for more than a year.

P.S.: I'm really surprised at the ESPN NHL online community here. Every time I check my Friends list, there are more DSP guys playing that game than any other title, including football. It's a great online game -- fun as hell, realistic and doesn't take a lot of time.

It will probably happen, but that doesn't bother me at all. I am 25% of the way through the game and have played for 8-10 hours. I will get 20-30 hours out of the offline mode and a few weeks of online play. Then I'll sell the game and lose maybe $15. That's not too bad. Last weekend I played golf and it cost me $40 (and that's cheap). BO3 is a bargain!

Yeah, that was fun (well, except for the time someone took me out near the finish when I thought I was cruising home for a rare second place finish...Mix?). I also agree that this isn't a bad game to play with "random" people.

Yeah, I'm loving this game. And you guys are right. It is definitely one of the more playable games in public sessions. Teal and Slumberland, sorry for the abrupt ending last night but after that last race I got totally disconnected from Live before it even finished with the results screen.

Hopefully they get that patched up soon.

Thanks for the game last night, fellas. And thanks for putting up with me.

I sure enjoyed the company, but online gaming did little to change my opinion of Burnout 3. I was bored after about 30 minutes, so I didn't work really hard to rejoin the game after about my seventh disconnection from the lobby.

Man, EA's interface and service on Xbox Live SUCKS HARD. Just awful, at least for Burnout 3 and NASCAR 2005. So clunky, so unreliable, so unintuitive.

Hey... Spooky's suggestion of NOT pressing anything after the "autosaving" message, when it says "CONTINUE" worked WONDERS last night. After I left Spooky's game due to my kid waking up, I couldn't get back in so I hosted for a while. I told everyone not to press any buttons at the continue screen, to let the game do it on it's own.

Voila... it worked. Instead of getting booted, we were all back in the lobby after the game, 9 times out of 10.

I never touched the button, taking Spooky's advice, and got tossed more than fresh pizza dough being made. And what's even more frustrating is that the three bars indicating my connection status always were at full illumination -- my connection was rock.

EA's online interface sucks.

Yeah, that was fun. It'll be a fun diversion, I think, even after all this other stuff makes it's way out. (SWBF, Halo2, etc.) PK, you may not have changed your opinion, but I don't remember laughing that hard in an online game in a looong time. You were off the friggin chain...
