Re: Hockey Night In DSP 2016-2017
This is what happens when you have a week off. Several players with the mumps outbreak will sideline the team significantly tonight vs the Sharks. Seven regulars will be missing in action. With a week left for trade action, it's time to sell some assets and think about next year. Again...
Re: Hockey Night In DSP 2016-2017
Boy, the Caps will be tough to deal with during the playoffs. They just acquired Shattenkirk to boost up their D, they look complete now.
Long time 'Nucks favourite Burrows goes to OTT giving them experience and grit, and looks like the Leafs will make a serious push for the dance acquiring D. Boyle from TPA for a second rounder.

Next up, Taransenko to Washington for a backup goalie and a 1st round pick in 2025.

It's been a decade or so in the makings, but McDavid and the Oilers are going to the big dance this season with their win against the Kings.
No such luck for my 'Nuckers in yet another year of injuries and frustrations. At this point I am just hoping for good draft position.

Re: Hockey Night In DSP 2016-2017
The long season is over, thank goodness says Canucks fans. Let the playoffs begin this Wednesday with CHI and WAS being favourites representating the West and East coast respectively.
But first VAN does the right thing in firing Willie D, a good coach in my mind that just didn't get the players he needed when they made the playoffs two seasons ago and the team went downhill fast after the usual rash of injuries making them the victim to most men/games lost to injuries. The team is officially in a total rebuild.
LA also fires D. Suter along their GM D. Lombardi as they watch their two other CA teams make it to the dance.
And as for FLO, what a disaster that organization is. I won't repeat what I posted a couple of months ago, when Rowe took over in a major shakeup favouring the analytics people. Dave Tallon who was the previous GM retakes his title and will control his roster something he should have been allowed to do all along. After all, they were one of the of surprises last year and made it to the playoffs.
Looking back at the very first page of this thread, my feelings towards the Leafs remain the same. They are a very exciting team to watch, Mathews scored 40 goals in his rookie year after that amazing four goals in his very first game. They have a handful facing the Caps and they most likely won't make it past the first round, but after decades of sucking, they made it to the playoffs in only the second year after Babcock took over.

Just heard this for the first time last night on KSHE's Seventh Day. Nothing better to get in mood for the playoffs.
Let's Go Blues!

THANK YOU Jake Allen! One of the best goaltending games by a Blues goalie I've seen since Curtis Joseph... WOW!

That was something, wasn't it. He didn't just stop 51 of 52, which was awesome, there were several just flipping insane acrobatic saves. The dude was in a zone. That is what stealing a game looks like.

Allen is the hottest goalie in the league (941 save percentage since March 1). It will be something to see if the Wild can keep up that kind of attack, and if Allen stays hot.

Oilers blew it. Costly loss, as they were flying in the first period. Must avoid stupid stick penalties in upcoming games.

Yeah, I only stayed awake for two periods, but they shot their wad in the first. To much trying to "set the tone" and then fizzled out, along with stupid penalties.
Everyone is writing off the Sharks as old and slow, but the Orange and blue better not take them lightly. Thorton wasn't even playing........

Re: Hockey Night In DSP 2016-2017
This Oil team feels a lot like the 1980-81 and 1981-82 teams. Young, swaggering, not quite ready for prime time. But next season or in 2018-19, watch out.Gangrel wrote:Yeah, I only stayed awake for two periods, but they shot their wad in the first. Re: Hockey Night In DSP 2016-2017
Agreed. They are not slow, that's for sure, but Oils are a quicker team. They've been playing mediocre hockey for the past dozen games, got some injuries but whenever you have a Brent Burns in your team, if he turns it up a notch or two, watch out. It'll be a close series I believe. Cam Talbot was their best player by far, the McDavid line struggled, Draissatl was forcing the puck and their inexperienced showed in the end.Gangrel wrote:Yeah, I only stayed awake for two periods, but they shot their wad in the first. Sure was... but I do hope we play better in front of him going forward in this series. We can't expect this night in and night out from the Snake.Aristo wrote:That was something, wasn't it. Re: Hockey Night In DSP 2016-2017
50 shots a game is definitely not how the Wild like to play. They like to get a lead and sit on it with strong defense. Dubnyk is the most over-rated Vezina candidate I have ever seen. There's a reason he has been on multiple teams and nearly out of the league at some points. He was beaten BADLY in overtime, but Suter saved his ass by taking a penalty and preventing an open net goal. I really think the Wild will lose this series in 5 games. They will win tonight, but they won't win a game in STL. STL will win it in 5 or 6 games.Naples39 wrote:Allen is the hottest goalie in the league (941 save percentage since March 1). Watching game 1 made me embarrassed for Minnesota sports fans. They were chanting Allen's name before he had given up a goal. You don't do that until a goalie has let in 2-3 soft ones. Dude then went on to be a mix of Brodeur and Hasek. With an average goalie in net, STL would have lost 8-1. I haven't seen a goalie completely take over a game like that in several years. Allen looks like a minor leage goalie with that plain white goalie mask, but he played most likely the best game over his life in game 1. The Wild are done. I have a feeling Tarasenko will take over in STL. Wild can not stop players like him or Kane who can make something out of nothing.
STL vs Chicago is what I am hoping for. As a kid in the 90s, the Hawks vs Blues was my favorite matchup. Chelios, Belfour, Cujo, Brett Hull, Roenick? Let's go!!
