I just ordered from Amazon also. It's my first time ordering a video game from Amazon. I chose 1 day (release day) delivery. Are they usually good with release day delivery? I might lose it if I don't get this on release day . Really digging the demo..
I don't have direct experience, but I don't think I've ever seen a thread about an anticipated game that was not full of people freaking out and ready to go on a rampage from frustration at amazon for not delivering on release day, despite whatever promises amazon had given before the release date.
You may have good luck, but I'd be wary. Of course you could always pull the, 'buy from a store and then return the unopened copy once it arrives from amazon' option.
I will admit I got suckered in by a free trail of amazon prime, but I am putting it to good use.
Among other benefits, I do like to pre-order from them. Free release day shipping, price match guarantee, no tax, and it's always come through for me. The only mix-up I had was once when my CC number changed between the time of placing the pre-order and release day, so when they went to charge the card on release day the charge didn't go through. That set me back a few days.
I suppose if you are "OMG I must have it on release day no matter what" maybe you don't want to lose control by waiting for shipping, but I am happy with the arrangement.

I thought their "Release Day Shipping" option; in particular, the 99 cent option; was done away with not long ago? Further, I thought I heard that Release Date isn't really an option either, and that you had to select (and pay for) 2 Day shipping to get expedited game shipping.
I pre-ordered from them due to the $15 credit, but was thinking of canceling in order to snag a local copy. I think I'll just stick with it for the $$$ and the pre-order bonus, though.

I just felt like the grind to improve your players was artificially high in order to drive sales of boosts. but the gameplay is fun, for sure.
In NHL be a pro, the leveling up is pretty much only about games played with some relatively minimal performance benchmarks required. Also drop-in games count. This is very different from the way it works in FIFA where while drop-in games also do count, games played doesn't matter at all. It's all about checking off a whole host of performance based requirements which are nearly impossible to get in the drop-in games because of their nature. The boosts in NHL are earned with a similar kind of performance check list, but they don't really add as many points at all compared to the regular upgrades you get for games played.
But yes, the ability to purchase the boosts does indeed suck for those of us who don't want to spend the real money. One hopes that the new and improved EASHL match making as mentioned by vader will help alleviate the problems associated with that policy.

One option from the last two years to earn boosts was for achieving certain goals in offline games. As a general opponent of paying for boosts, I (embarrassingly I must say) ground out 95% of skater boosts using offline play and simming games until the last 3 or 4 minutes or so to get the (often minimum) 40 games per season. Some games I'd have to play longer, of course, to stat boost, but all in all it took me a couple of weeks of a few hours here and there. Probably earned $50 in boosts, for about 18-20 hours of work... which is a terrible trade-off when one thinks about it, but it's the principle that counted.
Took advantage of Best Buy's 100-percent trade-in bonus promotion this week and traded in Tiger Woods 13 for $26 today. I now have about $80 of BB credit, so chances are I'll strap on the virtual blades with you f*ckers Sept. 11.
Looking forward to it. I can't recall the last time a demo has exceeded my expectations more than NHL 13. It's plays like an entirely new game compared to the very underwhelming, unrealistic NHL 12.

Are people getting many one-timer goals? I haven't had one yet. All my goals thus far have been things like straight-wristers from the slot. Actually much more realistic looking than blasting a one-timer top shelf when semi-covered in the slot. I'm hoping this is indicative of what's to come in this game, but I'm not sure if it's a mirage that is only temporary.

After about an hour with the demo I actually have yet to score a goal.

Not to stray too far off topic, but I believe you will begin to be charged sales tax beginning on September 1st if you live in Pennsylvania. Theoretically you should be reporting the use tax for online purchases and they added a line on PA tax returns to make self-reporting easier last year. Personally, I report use tax not out of some moral high ground but solely because I don't believe the benefit of not paying sales tax is worth the risk and stigma of being charged with tax evasion. I also think placing a "zero" on that line is a big red flag in this day and age so at the very least people should be using the state's pretty low estimates based on those that "don't keep receipts". I actually like that Amazon will collect the tax from now on to make it easier.
I really got maximum benefit out of my prime trail. I pre-ordered a few games (got NCAA Football on release date), borrowed a book, and ordered a few other items that arrived quickly. I may re-up at some point.
I really enjoyed my time with the NHL13 demo and luckily it was one that I pre-ordered with prime shipping.

I have scored very few goals myself, but I have yet to actually execute a one timer at all. I just can't seem to get it right, I'm doing something wrong. I've never in past years been able to pull off the one timer slap shot, but a least I could occasionally get the quick one timer wrister, but with this demo I can't seem to get that to work. I also can't seem to get the one timer passing to work either. I think something in me is broken.

I've scored two that I can remember. one in the Live moments challenge (which is always Pro) and one just last night on Play Now. One beat the goalie clean to the glove side and the other squeaked through the five hole. Neither were contested, although I did see a contested one in a video posted by EA, although that was on Pro.
I feel it may be too easy to just blow by defenders using your speed. Both of those one timers were created when I started speeding up just after I crossed the red line. I was able to get a step or two on the defender and then head towards the net, finally passing it off to a charging teammate who had also blown by his defender.

I have no problems scoring but I do find one timers harder to pull off. The direct pass is fine but the player about to pull the trigger seems always to be a step off.
Anyone else getting just about sick and tired of the last minute goal bullshit in EA games or is it just me. This demo for 13 it is still really rampant the chances that are converted in the last minute , especially annoying when playing 1 on 1.
I am just getting tired of the same two boring teams on the demo but love playing the game on AP level. Speed and skating physics is about perfect for me, just wished the CPU would be guilty of more penalties. Other than that, I can't wait for the SP version.
The next two weeks will be slow until this comes out (I guess a little less with ST). I've played the demo a bunch, but one period with 2 teams will grate on me. You can do HUT with different teams, but that is locked to pro difficulty I think. I've already won that as well in the demo. My plan is to lay off the game until release now.

EB has a deal where you get 20% extra credit on trade ins towards some games like NHL, Madden, etc.
I ended up with $10 too much, so got the basic game for 'free' and still have a giftcard with some cash.
Funny thing, I asked the guy what the Stanley Cup version came with and he said "a bunch of crap" and he talked me out of the extra $20..........
Wasn't going to get it anyway, but funny that EB boy is even against it.
Yeah, just preordered the regular version. The SC version didn't seem to have anything worth the extra $$ for me. Now let's get this game out!

Now this years NHL is one game I don't care about it coming out so early.

Especially since it looks like we won't see real NHL hockey until around Christmas, at the earliest.
