Patch is out, at least on Xbox. Apparently, it ends the 'let the CPU defend while I sit and watch' exploit in all online games by disabling the ability to become the keeper by pressing the back button.

Fellas,

Any of you having problems connecting to friends in the "online friendly" mode? It was working fine up until about a week ago for me.

What is the back button? I know you can just switch to the goalie and have him come out if there's a breakaway. I believe that's the triangle on the DS3.

They've really weakened the defense but they may have gone a bit too far. In FIFA 08 or 09, the elite forwards, once they got ahead of the cornerbacks, could not be caught. Then they changed it so any defender could run down any forward. Then in the last couple of years, the bigger forwards could ward off defenders with what looks like shoving so Higuain becomes a much more effective threat than someone like Messi.

Now, it seems harder to win the ball back, though it seems the defenders still have decent catchup speed.

That's an enormous understatement. I did an experiment last night in Pro Clubs. I made my guy as small as possible, which maxed out his sprint speed and acceleration well into the mid-90's. I was run down repeatedly by center-backs who couldn't possible have been rated higher than an 80 (the elite real-life players at the position top out in the 70's in those categories, so I'm being generous). I had 3-4 yard head-starts on them several times and they'd still chase me down every time, so there are some major shenanigans going on in that regard.

Because of this, the teams in Pro Clubs who play with no human "any" have an enormous advantage. The CPU never puts a foot wrong and can always run down its mistakes. At least the human players will regularly make rash or ill-timed challenges to give you some space. It can be incredibly frustrating when you lose to a team that's just locked in at forward positions and lets the CPU do all the lifting on defense.

Was fun getting a game of OTP in last night. Honest question - does it screw you guys over when the 'ANY' leaves suddenly like that? I really enjoy playing with you guys and (this may sound crazy) I'm actually enjoying playing as the any but I'm hesitant to play because until my daughter sleeps through the night consistently I may have to jet suddenly. After I put her down last night I was thinking about re-joining you guys but didn't want to mess up your game if she woke up again. Let me know, and be honest!

Actually, it's much easier to play with the CPU any. Only about 30% or less of the teams against whom we play have a human play any.

We don't do it by choice because it's a bit more fun and challenging, but it's not a problem at all if you have to drop out mid-game. We'd all rather you get a game or two in and then bail than not play. And you can always pop back in when she nods off. Last year when there were serious lag problems we'd often have the any bail out and then reboot, so we're used to it.

Hopefully next year they'll fix the screwy animation when two or more players collide. I have seen some funny stuff. :)

Very much enjoying the PC version. The new defensive system forces you to think of zonal marking instead of just hammering the sprint button with one player around the pitch, willy-nilly. A nice breakthrough.

A nice breakthrough , yes get used to it, often, because tactical defending means they dont tackle anymore.

Macca i dont care in the least but i must remember to ask how to treat a strange rash i have on my balls before the nipper wakes up damn it.

No worries we've all been there except my wife would get her tits out and i would keep playing. You can work on that .

Now that you mention it, I remember I wasn't fouled ONCE in three games last night. Odd.

This makes the shortlist for the non-existent but very highly regarded DSP Post of the Year.
