True. I guess I meant I'm a little more interested than I expected. I think we all know 2K won't make a huge leap to the top of the heap but I certainly hope they put out a playable game that isn't a bugfest.dbdynsty25 wrote:It's a baseball game. Actually, I played 1 inning of the demo this morning before i went to work.
I don't know if this game will have a way to save a game during the middle of the game, but I think it will need it. The inning I played took some time because of the number of pitches and foul balls, etc.
Frankly, it is impossible to tell after 1 inning, but if the pitching mechanism is working the way it seemed to be, then I may actually throw some walks. One of my problems with this series is that if you mess up the mechanics of throwing a pitch, it was often a gopher ball, but it looked like if your mechanics were off a little in the demo you can simply miss the corner and throw a ball instead of a strike. That makes the game more interesting because if control is not as precise then you will have to decide whether to go for the corner on a 3-1 count and risk the walk or put it over the plate and risk giving up a hit. In past years you could hit the corner with the worst pitchers in baseball.
I like the ability to move the R stick to the left or right and basically bat defensively. I fouled a few pitches off this way and even got an opposite field single by using this swing type. On the foul balls, it felt like a defensive swing, the sort of thing you see good players do all the time. Again, since it was 1 inning, it was hard to tell if this type of swing will be too easy - it will be interesting to see if a crappy hitter will be able to swing defensively against a good pitcher. Since i played 1 inning between the top 2 starters and the top of the lineup between 2 very good teams, it is impossible to make a judgement.
The game looks better - and smoother - than last year.
But it is hard to imagine this game being a quick pick up and play game like NHL 10 just because of the nature of baseball. If AI players take more pitches and work counts, there is no way that you can get a game in under 45 minutes or an hour. That is not a negative, but more a fact of the game.
Some questions come to mind that only the developer can answer. For example, does throwing over to first base a time or 2 actually keep the runner close and maybe limit his jump on a steal attempt? (Is there any risk reward to actually paying attention to baserunners) And when I was pitching there were several times that the pitcher feedback said I was "overthrowing". I wonder if you consistently overthrow if your pitcher will tire quicker or make him more prone to injury?
The level of sophistication of the AI will determine if I play this game a week, a month or until the World Series.

The demo is cool. Smooth. 'Slicker" pitching interface. Good amount of foul balls, etc.. I loved how when you steal a base, the camera slows down during the slide/tag. This gets rid of the need to pause the game & do an instant replay to see if the dude was really safe or not. Now you get a good look at it while it's happening. I also like the little swing timing replay in the lower left that pops up on 'close swings'. The AI didn't swing at every strike & victorino fouled 5 straight pitches when I had 2 strikes on him. Good times.

After 2 quick games...I like it...I like it a lot. I liked 2K9 last year as well minus the bugs. I was 100% certain I was getting the Show next week since I now have a PS3 but after playing 2K10 I'm not so sure. First off the game looks phenominal and plays what appears to be a really solid game of ball...albeit only through 6 total innings for me so far. The one thing that I think is a big plus over Sony's offering is the batting and pitching of 2K10....it just feels really good in this game and that might weigh heavily in my overall decision factor when I decide next week. I'm sure there will be some of those 2K bugs that rear their ugly head...in fact its probably a given but the pitching and batting interface on 2K10 feels so good, that I might not be able to say no to it next week even with a chance to grab the Show for the first time ever.

Hell, I haven't played the demo yet, and I'm sold. I really dug the game last year, overall, and the nine minute video appears to be enough to sway me back to it.
...but I'll be DL the demo, too, as soon as I get home...

Not to nitpick or anything, but I have yet to see the AI take a strike.
A "test" I alway try on bb games is to see what the AI does when up 3-0 in the count. Unfortunately, they swing at every 3-0 strike. Hopefully this can be fixed with sliders (don't u hate that sentence). Anyone else finding the same thing?
Game runs very smooth, which is great news. The sounds seems a bit dull, but maybe that's just in the demo.
Another "test" I usually try is to throw nothing but fastballs diwn the middle.....one after the other. Once again the game failed
I actually
had a 1-2-3 inning doing this
Try it guys....play one game throwing nothing but fastballs down the middle. You should get clobbered, right?
Didn't happen so far with me.
The gameplay seems pretty solid, but the "purists" might get turned off by these AI shortcomings.

I had a number of 'AI taking strikes' but they were mostly on the corners & such. I don't think I tried throwing straight down the middle (as I only do that against friends online to make them look badJackB1 wrote:Not to nitpick or anything, but I have yet to see the AI take a strike.

In real baseball, the batter will take a fastball down the middle on a 3-0 count 90% of the time.

Improved over last year but nowhere near as good as last year's Show. Definitely seems good enough if The Show is not an option but I can't see how anybody would want to play this over it unless they're just really sick of The Show.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

So let me get this straight. Your considering blowing off the best baseball game ever, that you've never played,to take a chance on what has been up to date a bug ridden mess, based on 6 innings of a demo?....tjungin at its besttjung0831 wrote:After 2 quick games...I like it...I like it a lot. How do you know? You don't have the Show. The show is great in it's simplicity. Turn off all of the fancy ball markers and stupid stick movements and just press a button and let the ratings and statistics take care of it. I definitely prefer the minimalist approach over finger gymnastics and radar lock missile command graphic overlays. These companies that focus on graphics sure put a lot of random crap on the screen that's unneeded.tjung0831 wrote:I'll probably get the show...it would be pretty stupid if I didn't since I now have a PS3. The hitting and pitching though, I already know I prefer that in 2K10.

I downloaded the demo and played a few games, and I'll stick by the old adage "If you have nothing nice to say......"
