Just a bit of overreaction wouldn't you think? Although I agree on most of it :) except the Mascherano's assessment. Geez, it was only game 1, sure they could and should have lost by more goals but c'mon people.

Yes, Teamtalk is really a bastion of sane, die-hard, knowledgable Liverpool fans.... Seriously, check CrapTalk's other talk back pages.

For a Man City fan I think it's really cute that you take the time out of your day to go to TeamTalk, go to the Liverpool talk back page and then cut and paste the comments here. Obsessed much?

Anyway, feel free to also post Liverpool pre-match team news here as well, transfer gossip would be good too - saves me from going to other websites. Thanks Dave.

Hell no, you don't think I'd be wasting my time on a 'dipper website do you ?

Anyways, you won't be getting much transfer gossip on your rumoured £1.5m budget...well, not inward gossip anyway.

;)

My goodness, Dave. If you think that's fickle you should see and hear what Bears fans are doing after Jay Cutler played 3 series in a freaking exhibition game!! :)

He went from Messiah to Bob Avellini in 9 pass attempts.

I've still got a Bob Avellini card somewhere, with the rest of my Statis Pro Football set, which I think is 1983.

I'll stop there, else I'll have various cupboards out trying to find it. :)

Really ? Well he wasn't facing a winger, as Modric is right footed, and he lost his man at the corner who promptly headed home. I'm not sure it was even in the same postcode as any definition of 'great'.
Umm... the fact that Modric is right footed should have made it more difficult on Johnson, since he is also.. you know... right footed. That's kinda how it works. Able to take the defender inside, toward his weaker foot... and so on...

As for the promptly headed... The goal was scored from a free kick, not corner, if memory serves me right, and it was Carragher not Johnson closest to Bassong. Unless you know something I don't, and posses intimate knowledge of Liverpool's defensive assignments on set pieces, it would be pretty difficult to put that goal on GJ.

Wait a minute! Liverpool have defensive assignments on set pieces? Nobody tell Tim Cahill! :)

I don't know who are the announcers for FX Champs League, but I don't know if I could take a season of the current guy.

Wrong about Modric - because he's right footed, Modric would not be making an effort to beat him on the outside and cross, because he'd always have to be cutting back...contrast Johnson's afternoon with that of Insua on the other side, who had Lennon running at him all game.

As for the goal, yes you're right about it being a free kick. I do, however, have some knowledge about Liverpool's dead ball defensive tendencies....they use zonal marking not man for man. If you watch the flight of the ball, Johnson is the nearest to it initially, and as it was falling into his zone, he should have attacked it. But he didn't, and that was that. Good header though.

And Rob is quite correct...a number of teams have exploited this scheme in the past by overloading certain areas, or playing the ball towards areas without key defenders in as they won't go with the moving attacker.

Is it an American, or have you got one of ours.

Note - if he has already mentioned 'that magical night in Barcelona' despite neither MU or Bayern playing, then call the cops....you've got Clive Tyldesley in the house.

This was the guy who during one Derby was wittering on about Utd bossing the game and doing all the work....score at the time was Man City 5 Man Utd 1

:)

It's one of ours. Here's what I don't get, FX is own by Fox which is owned by News Corp. News Corp owns Sky Sports. Why can't they just port over the Sky Sports announcers. Surely they have to be better.

Oh nevermind they were having audio problems and had some guy fill in.

Whew.

Not sure why, but Celtic/Arsenal is live on CNPH (Comcasts TV channel) while FSC is showing Olympiacos at FC Sherif live.

CNPH?

It should be on your Fox Sports Regional. Some games will be on FX too.

more people have the fox regional channels, so the first choice games are on that one instead of FSC.

DirecTV has added a Champions League mix on Ch. 469. Very nice.

Really unfortunate that these tangential CL matchups are pre-empting live coverage of the EPL matches this week. It's

Sorry to rain on your parade but you are wrong again. It is much easier for a right footed full back to defend a left footed winger, than a right footed one. And, for reasons, you actually stated above. A lefty is more likely to go outside, toward the sideline (that some may call an extra defender) and toward his stronger foot. A righty will go inside, toward a weaker and most likely a base foot, and with the entire width of the pitch to work with.

And back to the free kick. I've read 4 different reports on the game, and in every single one Carragher is being blamed for missing the defensive assignment. Oh, and it's also a consensus, apparently that GJ had a great game. Sorry

Sure, whatever. Does make me wonder why all managers don't play wrong footed wingers then...perhaps because they would like their wingers (in a 4-4-2 formation, such as Spurs were playing) to, say, get some crosses in now and again without having to check back onto their stronger foot and end up with a poorer trajectory. Just a thought, like.

I'm a centre back who only plays full back when my team are desperate (for bodies, that is. Our performances are desperate every Saturday morning) so I'm not meant to be any good at it - which is just as well - but I've found the lefty can go both ways, either down the wing to cross or a cut inside to play a pass infield with his left foot. The righty is more inclined to go inside, because if he goes outside it's harder to use his preferred foot for anything useful, so he's easier to keep a handle on.

It is wholly and entirely possible, perhaps even likely, that the lefty can go both ways because I'm garbage, but I'm much happier facing a right-footed left winger, happier still if he doesn't have a left foot and happier still if I can add the word 'literally'.

How are the lower league DSPers faring? My beloved Hartlepool United have taken to ruining my Tuesdays as well as my Saturdays. Three matches, three decent performances but only one point.

That is the leppings lane end which will be totally redone at the request of the FA. They think it still looks to much like it did in 89.

Davies has turned into quite an exciting player. That first goal is a real goal-scorer's goal, with a great first touch, a quick turn, and a well-struck low shot with a quick release before the goalie and defender are set.

His speed and hunger for goal are just what the US team need.

Best thing Davies did was tell MLS to bug off and go to Sweden.
