First round today. 65 and sunny here in PA and I was nursing back spasms that just won't go away! Shot a 76 with my new R9's and LOVE them. No complaints here firing up a legit 76 right out of the box. Played the ball down and putted everything out.

I would take that in heartbeat. Good start indeed.

It is typical for me for the first round of the year. I get so pumped for the first round...look forward to it for months...so I stay focused the whole round. Once I get in the swing of things I usually lose focus and can't stay focused for 18 holes. Its the biggest chink in my golf armor. This year I have targeted this problem as one of my priorities.

Somewhere over the winter I picked up cutting across the ball. It costs me big distance and accuracy with my irons. I need to get that worked out ASAP.

I do the same thing off the tee...for some reason I don't with my irons. I guess irons are a lot more forgiving when it comes to cutting across the ball, but still. I've got the R5 Draw driver and it helped a bit with my slice off the tee, but still not perfect. Stupid baseball swing creeping into my golf swing.

Shot a 93 today on one of longer courses in the area...lol...mostly drunk. So it was a good day. :)

Sounds like it. It was in the 50's here today. Spent a lot of time hitting Dom grounders and flies.
60 tomorrow. Heading out to play some golf with some buddies from VA.
I gotta get rid of my "Baseball swing".That's exactly how my son described my swing. I just can't seem to square up my club face. I'm picking the ball with no divot what so ever. Aggravating stuff.

I'm looking to upgrade my standard fare Wilson irons I got from some chain store a few years back. I've only had two sets of clubs my entire life and I'm at a point where I need to just do it. I have narrowed it down to the Burner Plus (Danimal, thoughts?) and the R7s which are on deep discount now that the R9s came out. I can get both sets 4-AW for around 400 bucks. I've already got an R5 Driver that I absolutely love, so that won't be replaced right now. Basically I need some irons and a hybrid or two. So bang for the buck Taylor Made fans...Burner Plus or R7s?

I love the B+ irons, I hit them just yesterday for the first time thins spring (out doors anyway) and they are perfect for me. Like I said my natural swing does not have a high trajectory and these clubs make that no longer an issue and surprisingly I have lost almost no distance. I have a lot more control with my low and mid irons now.

Having said that if you have a low cap then you might want to consider the R9's. My index bounces from a 10-14 throughout the year. I have a condensed back swing so I don't kill the ball so when I play longer courses 7000+ yards I struggle.

I don't think you can go wrong with either choice to be honest.

I'm going out Saturday for the first time, I can guarantee you I am not shooting a 76 :) Hell if I am in the low 80's I'll consider it a huge surprise.

My cap ranges from 12-25 depending on the course and how often I'm playing. I'm trying to start playing more now...so i want to get some clubs that I can grow into. I'm definitely not going to be paying 900+ for some R9s, so that's why I limited it to the R7s or B+. Get myself out the door for a little over 400 and I'll be happy. :)

I'm the same way with my swing. The trajectory is really low for the most part, so anything that can help me get the ball up would be a welcome addition.

I'd get the Burner irons. If you aren't a single digit handicapper I don't see you noticing a big difference between the B+ and R7 irons. The B+ are probably much more forgiving from what I've read about them.

I'm playing at Torrey Pines this Sunday. Such a beautiful course:)

Certainly not a single digit...at least not on courses in So. Cal. There are a couple short courses in retirement areas in AZ that I was in single digits on, but those things are short for the blue hairs. :)

I've played Torrey a few times...awesome course. I did it with my brother who knows people there and they got us on for like 50 bucks. Better than the 2-3 hundy.

I still play with the Burner plus during the colder months and I love how high you can hit your shots. It doesn't have the most workability for a club and it's definitely an easier club to hit if you're a higher handicapper.

If you want to start shaping your shots, then I would go for the R9's, but you can't go wrong with the Burner plus and their bigger face which makes them more forgivable.

I'm not shaping sh*t...and never will because I don't play all that much but I do like to get out around 15 times a year. I loved AZ when I could play a few times a week in the summer for 10-20 bucks on country club courses...but it's too f'n expensive in So Cal to go that often.

So I'm pretty much going with the Burner Plus...I'm all for easy to hit.

Well...I just spent 700 bucks on new clubs. :) A little more than I planned on but whatever...wanted to get an entire set and keep it in the TaylorMade family.

Keeping the TaylorMade R5 Driver. Got a set of 4-PW, SW Burner Plus irons, a Burner 3 Fairway Wood 15* and a Burner 3 Hybrid Rescue 19* to go along with my TaylorMade Rossa Daytona putter.

Way too much research the last few days...glad it's over. :) Thanks everyone for your help...these should last a while. TaylorMade forever. LOL.

I'm leaning toward buying those irons for my son. He has an R7 Driver and 3 wood. They will make a great birthday present.

If you do, you can get brand new sets on eBay for 382 shipped...which is the way I went. I'll pay to get them fitted if need be but I've never done that before, so why start now. :) I'd rather save the 200+ bucks!

I'll let ya know how they hit next week!

I got my R9's for $599/Free Shipping off Ebay. Brand new, in the box, never opened, TM warranty. After selling my other irons I got a top notch set for an incredible price. They are standard length and lie. The guy was awesome to deal with. He had well over 1000 positive ratings. Great Ebay seller. His name was "Golf Seller".

Got mine from "budgetgolfer" with 35,000 positives. :) I'm an ultra paranoid ebay buyer. Only go with the HUGE sellers if I'm buying anything significant or something that has potential to be fake.

Played Torrey Pines today. Shot an 88. Terrible front nine but then I managed to put things together a bit on the back end. Birdied a long (465) par 4 and strung together a bunch of nice pars before that. It was an absolutely beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky, perfect weather. I could've shot a 100 and still had a great time:)

Thanks 10spro. I'm desperately practicing to try and break 80 on a respectable course like Torrey Pines. I think I'll be able to do it sometime this summer if I keep it up but we'll see how it goes. I keep letting the "disaster holes" ruin my score so I gotta work on my course management a bit. I went for the pin on a Par 3 today that was neatly tucked in behind a two water hazards. The rest of the green was wide open but I still had to try and force a shot in there. Ended up with a 5 but I had a fun shot out of about an inch of water (it landed right on the embankment). Come to think of it I only hit one green on the four Par 3's today. Not good!
