So far I am admiring the Bruins self control. Letting the Habs take all the penalties. 7 - 2 are the penalty calls and it has translated to 5-1 on the scoreboard.

Two quick observations:

Boston looks tough as hell. That double cross-seam PP goal by Savard was a beauty. Price looks really shaky, but he's not getting much help from the Habs' D.

Jonathan Toews is the second coming of Steve Yzerman. Simply a fantastic, clutch player and leader at the tender age of 20.

I feel your pain about Detroit and Columbus, James. That's the varsity vs. the JV -- a very unappealing series. Columbus is facing a ripsaw right now in Detroit.

Take care,
PK

I mean these guys are just literally happy to be in the playoffs. No emotion at all.

Saw some highlights also of the BOS-MON game, you know the Habs are having a lousy night when T. Thomas out of all people gets a point and P. Bergeron gets into his first ever scrap and drops Gorges. Wow. On my way home baby...

That was a GREAT play by Thomas on the assist. He skated to the high slot, even with the top of the circles, to stop the Montreal SH dump and fling a breakout pass to Savard at the Montreal blue line.

Reminded me of vintage Hextall for the Flyers in the late 80s. :)

Take care,
PK

Don't worry, James. If the 'Nucks win tomorrow night, the Helen Keller posse from St. Louis will still consider the Blues to be in good shape.

Who knows? Maybe Hardy Astrom will suit up in goal for Vancouver tomorrow night. That would put the Blues in good shape.

I believe the Red Sox overcame a 0-3 series deficit in recent memory. ;)

I'm as big of a Blues fan as there is, but I think that they're already toast by not stealing one on the road. I was actually pulling for a 1st round matchup with the Sharks (to return the favor when they bounced us as an 8 seed after the Blues just got the Prez trophy). I knew Loungo would shut us down like this, they always have trouble against that guy. HATE HIM

Boston is gonna win it all. I'm pretty sure of that now after watching game 2. Only team who can stay in the rink with them is Vancouver, but that's if the Sundin twins are having a good game and Luongo is in the net. I'm bored of Detroit, so I'm saying now that they're done.

Easy now, Pucks Nostradamus. Detroit appears slightly superior everywhere to Vancouver right now except for in goal. Then again, Detroit is playing a much weaker opponent than Vancouver, so that is flattering the Wings. St. Louis would beat Columbus in five in a playoff series right now.

If Anaheim goes up 2-0 over San Jose, what's to say the Ducks can't go on a roll? They have a ton of talent, are big and physical, and Hiller was superb in Game 1.

And why not the Rangers? Lundquist is the Luongo of the East, as people pointed out here, and the Rangers have a lot of talent that is finally starting to play well, namely Redden and Naslund. They also have Drur,y, Gomez and Avery. Offense has been the biggest problem all season for the NYR's, so if their sleeping offensive stars wake up, the Blueshirts will be a tough team to beat as long as King Henrik stands tall.

Take care,
PK

:) :) :) on the 24-pack!

Boston is playing extremely well, no question. But much like Detroit, the Bruins are being flattered slightly by a weak opponent.

It's pretty apparent to me after the first two games of each series that Columbus and Montreal are the two worst teams in the playoffs.

I'm not ready to pencil in the Bruins and the Red Wings for the Finals after the first two games of the first round. Teams' ability can be neutered quickly in a series by a team with which it doesn't match up well, and injuries to key players lurk every second of every game.

Take care,
PK

Looks like Janssen is going to play tonight...it's at least being discussed. We need his energy....hopefully he can do what he needs to do without taking penalties.

One of my favourite players in these playoffs is M. Lucic. Big, strong and a lot of grit and character. It was wrong for him to crosscheck LaPierre with the game already out of reach and he'll pay for it in game three.

M. Sundin has a history of groin problems, he's not going to play tonight.

Hey, don't rip on Giada, Fletch. She's hot and she can cook -- a dream catch for any dude.

And just look at the ski-slope shape of that rack.

I was wondering how it appeared on TV. Limited replays in the arena but it seemed pretty ridiculous when the Pens got all those PPs in a row on increasingly soft calls, then the Flyers didn't really get any makeup calls on several other marginal plays.

Man the arena was a rowdy place the first 10 minutes. Great stuff. After the Pens tied the fans were stunned but the Giroux goal got the place going again. At least I got to see one great game regardless of what happens the rest of the way...

I agree. It's not like they missed an obvious stick throwing incident, but there were plenty of horrible calls.

Lucic takes a game off. That had to be one of the dumbest penalties ever taken.

It had no purpose or reason. You have just completely dominated a team for two games. The series is practically over. What does this piece of s*** do? try to take a guys head off with a stick. Dumbass? Scumbag? or both?

The problem with the officiating in general is that more players are learning the ropes of the chicken dance. As soon as they feel a stick being tapped under their elbows and shoulders they squeeze the opponents's stick making the innocent culprit look like if he's just hooked the cheater and from what I've seen, the zebras are falling for it.

It's playoff Hockey, let the guys hit and play cleanly.

The third period is going to be a dandy in Blues' land. 'Nucks just didn't have the legs in the 1st period, were undisciplined and payed for it. They started skating again in the second and took over control of the game, until the home team tied it late in the game. Go Canucks go!

Blues season has 12 minutes left. They lose this game, they might as well pack it up.
