Bengals take the fat lad from Alabama who couldn't be arsed with the combine. Let's hope he can be arsed to keep Carson Palmer healthy.

I'm happy with my teams picks.

Curry sounds like a great player, and fills the hole left by Peterson for the Seahawks.

Raji fills a big need for the Packers, but he reminds me too much of Harrell (who has been a complete waste of roster space). I'm a little surprised Thompson didn't go with Crabtree. Most of his 1st round picks have been players that did not fill an immediate need, and he dropped to a spot where he would have been a steal.

I'm not sure about Al Davis's strategy of making picks that ensure the Raiders will be in the top 10 again :D

Happy with the Bears draft, mostly because of Cutler, but they also found a couple guys late who will probably make an impact next season. They still are glaringly week at safety and receiver, though. They didn't have enough left after the Culter trade to make a serious run at Anquan Boldin.

I watched a little bit on Saturday, and Chris Berman sounded completely unprepared and/or drunk. I switched over to the NFL Network coverage and thought they did much better.

Why do I think of Heath Shuler every time I see Matthew Stafford or read his name?

Take care,

I don't know what to think about Miami's draft. Ok I get the Vonte Davis pick because we need top flight cover corners and he's a freaking stud but the biggest knock on him is his attitude and work ethic. And him referring to himself in the third person eerily reminds me of Pacman Jones.

The second pick, Pat White I have a problem with. I'm sure he was drafted as another player for the Wildcat but the team desperately needs a solid DT to learn from and eventually replace Jason Ferguson. Sean Smith was an OK pick in that he is a converted CB who is a monster at 6'3" and 200 pounds plus and loves to hit.

Why did the Dolphins need another TE when they already have 3 on the roster. He makes the 5th because the Dolphins signed another one yesterday. Anthony Fasano did a damn good job last year.

Overall i'll give the Dolphins draft a C and hope that those players contribute and make an impact. I hope i'm wrong.

LOL, all you guys should be thankful you're not a Cowboys fan. I never thought I would see the day when Jerry Jones would botch the draft worse than he did 3 years ago, but he proved me wrong. The highlight? Drafting a kicker in the 5th round when he already had one of the best kickers in the league in Nick Folk.

Then they wasted a 4th round pick on the McGee kid out of A&M when they have Romo and Kitna already. Granted, McGee has received good word of mouth, but they could have waited until today and got Chase Daniel for a song...which the Redskins just did.

Jerry Jones gave up a 1st, a 3rd, and a 6th for Roy Williams and then traded out of his second round pick so he could have 10 picks on day 2. I see one guy who might make the team out of all the picks he made.

So this offseason he has cut Owens and Roy Williams, let Kevin Burnett, Chris Canty, Tony Curtis, and Zach Thomas get away and he has signed Jon Kitna.

I actually can't remember a worse offseason as a Cowboys fan.

I don't know the 'boys behind the scenes dealing but this sounds like cap problems in the future. When you trade away 1st day picks to load up on second day, you do that because you are trying to manage the cap in future seasons. This you probably know, but I guess if it's that extreme, I would wonder how bad it is.

Another reason why the NFL and NFLPA needs to revisit it's policy on guaranteed money for 1st round draft picks. ;)

I say earn it when you prove yourself.

Didn't Leinart demand a bigger contract than where he was picked?

Crabtree is trying to pull the same crap, because he slid below pre-draft projections and other agents are waiting to see if Crabtree pulls it off before finalizing their clients' deals.

Players need big signing bonuses because of the nature of NFL contracts and the nature of the game. But yeah, when did being drafted in the top 10 or 15 become such a windfall?

I don't know but that BS needs to stop. Why should a guy straight out of college who's unproven in the NFL make more guaranteed money than a proven veteran or superstar? :?

Messed up is what it is but it is the deal they all made. Why?

At least the Cardinals went with Warner last year instead of just playing Leinart cause he is making so much...They are also smart enough to have that competition for the back up spot....Good chance Warner never finishes the season...Hes old , slow and fragile.

Only thing I can think of is that a high pick generates a lot of publicity and thus has some extra value to a franchise. If a poor team can't sign a high pick, that could hurt ticket sales.

Or maybe, a high pick and his agent could try to circumvent the draft results and try to negotiate with several teams. I think the legal status of the draft is shaky so the league and the teams may be trying to make it lucrative for the draftees to go along with the plan.

But the NFL is different than other leagues, in that the owners hold all the cards once he signs. If a rookie signs a massive deal and is a total bust, the team can cut him no questions asked - he only keeps the signing bonus & $ for time played. Hence the big signing bonus. In the NBA, they have rookie limits on money, they have guaranteed contracts down the line. In the NFL, you rarely see a deal where a guy hasn't played in 2 years, but is still drawing millions (the lakers had guys on the payroll last year that retired years ago).

I think the NFL and the NFLPA should put in place a rookie signing cap bonus and what a 1st rd rookie can make, and allow for an increase each year. It would be nice to see some of that money spread around to players who are proven and busted their ass both for their team and for the betterment of the league.

Too bad for Bradley. Maybe the Eagles could contact the Dolphins as they have an excess of LB's.

Why would the NFLPA want that? I guess you're assuming the owners would automatically pay veterans more? That'd just make it easier for them to stay under the cap. NFL players like the rookies getting all that cash. They use that as leverage when their own contracts come around. The next Manning contract negotiations start like this: "So, Jamarcus Russell makes 'this much'..."
