Finally played the demo and besides a few quirky things like a LB turning around as I come towards him running the ball.. I'm enjoying what I've seen so far.

I thought 09 was the best in the series thus far and 10 seems like a tightened up 09.

It's a day 1 purchase for me, so I hope I'm not making a mistake.

And on the flip side sometimes the demo plays better than the final product such as NCAA 09. ;)
True. Demos and final products can sometimes be quite a bit different in some areas from each other. If the final NCAA product is tweaked enough it could still be a go for me. Madden is sounding like it may be really awesome this year, so I may just wait on both games to be released then make a decision.

Last year it was as easy as downloading a roster file from someone's EA locker in the online game. I figure they'll keep that same system available, since the locker thing is a feature of most EA Sports games now.

So who can lay down the skinny on the whole roster brouhaha? I seem to remember reading something about the game shipping with last year's rosters or something, and they will issue a patch? Or what's going on with all that?

Zepp,
Game did ship with a bad / outdated roster file that somehow made it into press. EA released a roster update in the EA Locker under the gamertag of EASCncaa10.

I just dl'd the roster and the Buffs' roster looks much better now than with the roster that shipped with the game.

For anyone who's picking this up for the 360 you can also get the roster under my gt Wilk5280.

I just bought 09 for $15 a few weeks back (PS3). NEver paid much attention to it when it came out, and didn't get into the 10 hype either.

Other than the create-a-team, what's been done to make 10 worth $60? Did change up the presentation much? I vaguely recall a patch for 09. Can anyone give a quick rundown of what was lacking in 09 that is better in 10?

I never expected the bug to bite me on this one, but I'm getting tempted. It is football after all :)

Based on the feedback over at Operation Sports NCAA 10 seems to be getting good feedback. Some of the gameplay problems with '09 have been addressed while others were not. But it seems the overall consensus is NCAA 10 > NCAA 09.

I haven't bought an NCAA Pigskin game since '07 for the 360.

I agree that 10 > 09

However, if you weren't a fan of 09, you probably won't be a fan of 10 if that makes sense.

QB's throw a lot more ducks when pressured / getting hit while trying to throw

Run blocking is improved, IMO

Passing is a little tougher (not saying much)

Camera angle takes a little adjusting to, but not THAT much different from 09 if you ask me.

Progressive lighting is back, haven't come across any of the orange sunsets that lasted an entire game like in 09

Do you have to have XBOX Live Gold to access the EA Locker, or will the Silver subscription work?

The early feedback from OS had me thinking about buying it. The OS and IGN reviews are now up, though, and neither is very pretty.

At this point, I'm going to take a flyer and save my $63.59. Fight Night 4 will hold me over til Madden just fine. Hopefully, that game won't disappoint.

This is the first year that I have not even been remotely tempted to purchase NCAA Football. I think part of it is that I'm getting tired of the seemingly same ol same ol and other part of me is I'm tiring of certain video games all together. This game is a rental.

Madden has me at least intrigued, so I will definitely keep my eye on that game.

I only read the beginning of each of those reviews but they sure don't match the score given at the end. Reading the first several paragraphs you'd think the score would be around a 5.

If I reviewed games for OS or IGN and received complimentary advance copies of the game from EA, I probably wouldn't give the game a 5 either. It also probably explains TeamXBox's generous score of 9.3, seeing as how they had the "exclusive" first online review. Even Peter Moore was taken aback by their kindness:

"I was excited to see the first NCAA Football review hit today, where TeamXbox calls it “the best football game I have ever played on an Xbox” in giving it a 93. Heady praise indeed, and having seen the final build last week in Tiburon, I think you will be in agreement that the development has once again captured the passion, commitment and excitement of college football."

Too funny, Peter.

If I stick with '09, what do I need to make it "better". Can I still get the patch online? Is there a consensus on certain sliders to adjust? I'm not sure if it was this game, but I recall talk of slider being reversed or not working. I just want to get started with a basic "tune-up kit" for '09.

You guys DO realize that you're talking about 3 reviews...from a grand total of 3 people, right? I trust the opinions of people here and impressions of the whole at OS over 3 'official' reviews...especially when one of them is IGN. I mean, c'mon-IGN is to sports game reviews what Paris Hilton is to intelligencia.
That being said, I've not made up my mind whether or not to even BUY a football game. I'm a big college football fan, but I've tired of games that insist on you getting terribly involved in minutae. For instance, I'm having much more fun with BIGS 2 than I did MLB 2K9, simply because it's pick up and play action with no big investment.
I preordered NCAA, but just don't know if I want to commit to that kind of time...again. Besides, after the season is over, I have no real compelling desire to play anymore. Dunno. Maybe I'm just getting older, and my tastes are getting simpler.

I realize that, Teal. But if I thought that EA football has been "stale" for a few years now, I doubt I'm going to love the game when even the OS and IGN guys are now (finally) calling it stale as well.

For people here or elsewhere that have loved EA football up to this point, I'm pretty sure there's a LOT of fun to be had with this years title. My guess is that there is more than a handful of people here who will get more than their moneys worth out of NCAA 10. But this just doesn't appear to be the year that NCAA brings guys like me back to the fold. Hopefully, Madden will find a way to get some more playable camera angles patched in and that will do the trick.

I have to admit to being a little concerned about the alluded-to lack of 'atmosphere'. Atmosphere, for me, makes up about 75% of why I want to play a game. I want the pageantry, the fluff, all the extra 'oomph' on top of core gameplay. I'd like to see a full 'College Gameday' preshow. Full ESPN integration. Seems to me that EA just secured the license to keep everyone else away from it, not to actually use it.
I just don't know. Last year's game was great (after the patches), but it still languished on the shelf after the season was over. I'm afraid all of 'em will. This might be the year I actually buy Madden and skip NCAA...or I may pass on both. I would kinda like to see an 'arcade' version of the sport that isn't as extreme as a Blitz...more along the line of Bigs 2. Great atmosphere, fun gameplay that I don't have to pretend to take seriously.

That said, this is a more polished version of last year's game with some solid feature additions.
That's all I needed to read. Can't wait until tonight to get at least one game in!

I'm an 09 fanboy though.. go figure.

My feelings exactly. I've been playing a little BF: 1943, but other than that, I'm completely bored with gaming at the moment. Maybe it's just a slump.

On the plus side, I've been a total gym rat lately, working on the fitness. :)
