That was a fun series.
Yeah.

I've pretty much accepted the fact that the Mets aren't just that good.

They need to blow up this team and start fresh in 09.

I think the bats are finally coming alive and acting in sync with the good arms that the pitching staff is bringing. The Jays are playing the best ball yet so far in the season and L. Overbay is one of the guys that's hitting very well. All this still without the services of V. Wells and the picture is clearing up for TOR.

Man, what a disappointing year for the Tribe. It sucked listening to Mike and Mike this morning talk about trading CC. It wasn't supposed to go like this. :(

You can add the Jays as a slumping team.

Is that why most bats are made out of wood? I know, I know...

Down goes Pujols.....down goes Wainwright :( ....down goes Soriano :)

The Cardinals are the second best team in the NL?????? Are you kidding me? This was supposed to be a rebuilding year!

Dear Cleveland Indians,

Thank you for giving up on Ryan Ludwick. The dude is having an All-Star season! He deserves an invite to the All-Star game.

Mets really screwed up Willie's situation.

They made him look like a martyr and then fired him in the middle of the night after the Mets had won 4 of 6.

Ugh...

They fired him after the first game on the West Coast? They couldn't have done this while he was in NY for the past week or so? Just terrible...

I can't think of much that would shake my Mets fandom, but the way this whole thing was handled makes me feel sick. Why do they ALWAYS blow these kind of organizational matters?

Did you guys see this bit about JP Richardi's (GM for the Jays) comments about Dunn?

http://www.tsn.ca/story/?id=241177

Totally classless move by JP. He basically told a radio call-in fan that Dunn had no heart, etc...Really put him down. Listen, he may be right about Dunn not being the most passionate player (I have no idea - don't get to watch the Reds a lot), but a GM doesn't help his rep around the league by saying these things on public radio shows. Dunn was right to fire back at him.

I think I've had about enough of JP as a GM anyway. It's pretty obvious by now that NO plan is in place. It's always been a case of using band-aid solutions and overpaying free agents to keep the fans happy and positive.

I would agree fanatic, and that's why I said that I was only cautiously optimistic about the Jays this season. But the problem starts with the coach and the players IMO. I don't think J. Gibbons is a good motivator, you look at the lineup and this team should be hitting the ball out of the park every second day. Instead, I am tired of watching them waste chances with runners in scoring position constantly.

The pitching has been better than last year but not the offense, and when the guys finally pick up a hit or two it's the bullpen that's struggles. With all the injuries affecting the Yankees team, you would think that TOR would be in a better standing position. I do think that this could be JP's last stint with the Jays, but I can't stand J. Gibbons anymore.

Yeah, the batting with RISP is a real problem. I'm not sure if they're letting too many good pitches go by (patience can hurt a hitter sometimes) or whether they just don't have the quality bats to get it done.

I mean Vernon has always been a mistake hitter who doesn't really make "good outs". As for Rios - his mechanics seem a little off this year, and with such a long frame, he needs everything to be in sync or else the power just evaporates.

Anyways, I'm not worried that JP will get away with the injury excuse this year. It's finally time for him and Gibby to pay the price.

Jays fans,

What are your impressions of Eckstein and Rolen thus far? Eck seems to be struggling a bit in the field this year, but Rolen seems to be doing pretty well at the play and of course in the field.

On a side note, how in the world can the Cards get swept by the Royals!?!?!? Pathetic.

Your assessment on Eckstein is right on Dan. He's made errors I haven't seen him made in the past and I mean just trying to stop routine balls but overall he's the SS that the Jays's been missing for a few years. S. Rolen started slow because of his injury to his finger and I have seen him frustrated lately with the RISP plaguing the Jays. Still IMO, a great pick up at third base and consistent hitter.

That's good to hear. I saw Eck make an error against the Cubs a week ago that he normally would make. I was disappointed not only for him, but it appeared to be a costly error. Hopefully, his second half of the year is better than his first. I saw that he had been on dl, so hopefully he stays healthy and continues to contribute.

I'm pleasantly surprised with Troy Glaus. He just goes about his business and you don't hear too much from him. His defense has been better than I expected. He struggled a little bit in the beginning of the year, but he's made some plays that I wouldn't normally think he could make. Offensively, it took a little while for him to get his stroke going. But, now he's putting up decent homeruns, and his RBI is in the top three on the team.

All in all, it's been a good trade for both clubs. Izturis is solid at SS (fans and media here in St. Louis wrote him off after his signing), and he even puts the ball in play every now and then.

It's not that much of a stretch, considering the AL is 74-51 against the NL so far this year.

I usually hate interleague play, but I REALLY hate it this year, because while most of the AL teams are doing their usual whipping up on the NL teams, the Tribe is only 2-7 against the NL. :(

Perfect timing fanatic. Now you can say that JP's arse is definitely on the line if the team continues to struggle. You look at the roster and there's no way the Jay's should be where they are. I love Cito, he's definitely a better communicator than Gibbons, I hope he can bring back all those fun winning years to the franchise. The decision was well overdue.

Lex , its crash and burn time for the Tribe. A rash of injuries, but this team was bad before the injuries started. I hope to hell Hafner's shoulder has been his problem for the last year and not "the juice". The hitters look totally clueless at the plate. And the bullpen is terrible. How does Betancourt go from best setup man in baseball to a plus 6 ERA 8O .
CC is as good as gone, and it will be nothing but prospects for him. What a trainwreck after being 1 win away from the World Series. Ahh the life of a Cleveland fan.
At least as a Florida resident about 2 hrs away from the Trop, the Rays have been nothing short of amazing...sweeping the Cubs this week, and now owning the 3rd best record in baseball. I've been getting to 4 to5 games a year for the past few years, but haven't been up yet this year.
On a side note, the wifey and myself are getting ready to embark on our 6th baseball trip since 1999, in our quest to see every major league ballpark. Just a short trip this year to Houston and Arlington next weekend. We are down to about 7 or 8 parks left. Problem is they keep building new parks,so we keep having to go back to other cities, like NY and Wash. and Philly next year. What a darn shame

Yeah, I'm trying to stay optimistic about this season, but it's hard, especially after that sloppy game last night... Shoppach's throwing error letting the go-ahead run score, man, hard to watch...

I was down there last night. They had a real nice video tribute on the jumbotron to Omar Vizquel before the game. As they flashed quickly through what seemed like hundreds of his highlights, the crowd was "ooohing" and "ahhhing" after each play like it was a fireworks show. It was awesome. Afterwards he sheepishly came out for a long standing ovation. Then he got another standing O before his first at-bat. It was great night.

But then he went out and pulled off that suicide squeeze and made that nice play in the ninth to beat us, the BASTARD! :D

Was that you Manny was trying to get tickets for? You should have told him, "It's okay if you can't get us tickets, Manny, we'll buy 'em, no biggy, you don't have to go slammin' people to the ground." :D
