I agree. Looks super to me. Very crisp.GTHobbes wrote:Kolbe posted a couple of new pics over at OS...the game's looking plenty good enough to me:

Official PS3 trailer is out.

It looks nice...not overwhelming graphically but very nice. I saw many of the same animations that the PS2 versions has. Hopefully the gameplay is up to par with the PS2 version also.

I don't know, I'm just not hyped for this one anymore. Maybe it's because I've been playing the psp version for awhile now?Diablo25 wrote:Official PS3 trailer is out.

Given the look of the player models and animation, to me it seems like a straight port of the PS2 version but with upgraded graphics. That isn't necessarily a bad thing if the solid gameplay is intact, but perhaps a bit disappointing for those looking to be blown away by the graphics.Diablo25 wrote:Official PS3 trailer is out.

Given the jagged, chunky mess that MLB 2k7 was on the PS3, it shouldn't have any problem taking the title of best looking baseball game on the PS3

Eeesh. I'm glad I didn't go out and drop 600 on the PS3 this year. I certainly wouldn't say it looks 500 dollars better than the PS2 version which I absolutely love. Next year, with a year of graphical tweaking which I'm sure will take precedence now that they have a game engine on the PS3 hardware...I'm sure it will be awesome. That's probably when I make the PS3 plunge.
I'll agree with you guys on the graphics...very average IMO. I can't help but think that the textures will be better on the final version. At one point in the trailer John Smoltz (I think) looked as washed out as could be...very bland textures. This is a 1st party game from Sony so I'm guessing (hoping) they clean things up a bit more for the final release.
Several things did look very good. The animations, although nearly identical to the PS2 version, were very nice. Keep in mind, Kolbe (lead dev.) stated there are a sick amount of animations in this game...MANY more than the PS2 version. The crowd (not that important to me) looks super. I'm not worried about the game much.

Yeah, that vid doesn't wow me. And I'd love to be convinced that I need a PS3. MLB's the kind of game that would do it for me.
For those of you playing the PS2 version, how are you getting around the CPU's lack of roster moves in the off-season? Just playing one season and that's it?
The PSP version continues to impress me... there are stretches where the hit totals are a bit high, but then things suddenly come back to earth. Same with user walks, sometimes it seems like they don't exist, but then I'll walk three or four in a game with default meter pitching and all is right with the world.

I'm thinking next year will be my ps3 plunge... or not... MLB 2k8 is still the best baseball game ever to grace the Xbox 360 and I expect it to be much more polished next year.

That commercial looked very average compared to MLB 2K7 which looks incredible in HD. The PS3 version just looks like a polished PS2 version, a little cleaner and crisper but nothing spectacular. Obviously this is why they have refrained from releasing it until now considering if we had watched this last month we'd all be laughing as we compare it to the MLB 2K vids.
Game play wise though I love the show but they need to overhaul the graphics at some point.

I must be hitting the sauce a little too early today..loldbdynsty25 wrote:If that isn't putting all of your eggs in one basket, I don't know what it. 2k7 you mean?MizzouRah wrote:I'm thinking next year will be my ps3 plunge... or not... Sorry, MLB 2k7 is the best "graphical" baseball game I've seen on any console, and I know that means squat, but if they could actually get some engrossing gameplay and refine the fielding next year, it could at least give The Show a run for its money.
I've preached about gameplay ever since High Heat graced my pc many years ago... but after watching that video, all I can think about his how much better MLB 2k7 looks and wonder, "If this game ever played a decent game of baseball with at least no "glaring" issues, most of us would be in baseball gaming heaven.
MLB 2k7 definitly left an impression on me.

Heh...I knew what you meant.
2k7 lasted about 50 games for me. After that, I kept seeing the same annoying crap. Homers being robbed...shoddy fielding...horrible cpu lineups and just a poor batting model compared to The Show. It is 10x better than it was last year, so it's a good start. With some tweaking...it will be able to compete with Sony's game on the field. Graphics are secondary to me...so it doesn't bother me that Sony got the game ported over...I'm sure they will clean it up a bit for next years release now that they have it working on the PS3.

I will say, I can't wait to read impressions from you ps3 owners!GTHobbes wrote:That short clip showing beyond the outfield fence at PNC in the Gamespot clip is awesome... I really hope they added a fielding camera angle that pans out like that. I think the game looks great and cannot wait for it to be released.

Yeah.... some of the inactive players are fake and I think all the FA are fake, but having the real 25 man rosters has finally allowed me to start my season on the psp.Blublub wrote:Just noticed that the latest roster update for the PSP now includes the big name free agents (DiceK, Sosa, etc.)
I'm using AS defaults, but with guess pitch on as I wasn't getting many HR's with some players that should hit one every now and then. I only guess one of the zones, not pitch type and I'm sure it's somewhat of a cheat... but it's tough pitching to teams like the Mets for me on AS... a game can get out of hand VERY quickly.
Also, using the "high" setting for fielding has eliminated any choppiness I was getting at times.

Finally watched a good HD trailer and I do see alot I like. The crowds are AMAZING and there seems to be life outside the ballpark... very cool.Diablo25 wrote:A few more below. Stadiums are looking sick.

Well I just played the PS2 version on my PS3 last night, lets just say a PS2 game on a 100 inch screen looks like an old school atari game. So I've got high hopes for the PS3 version.
But the game played really well, can't wait to put more time in with it.

Chris addressing questions about franchise mode...

It's basically the same. We improved some logic, improved trades (well... hard to not improve on broken, but they're better than they *would* have been had they worked) - we made some tweaks to stamina, and durability - just trying to get things closer to what we want to see.
