Uh?
When did I say something to label me as a "homer"?
Did I proclaim the Mets as the division winners?
BTW, nice game last night for the Braves. specially Davies.
Didn't see the game but the boxscore says it all.
Oh, I do proclaim that Zambrano won't finish the season on a Mets uniform.

Gotta say I'm pleasantly surprised with the Cubs so far, with the most pleasant surprise being Greg Maddux. I haven't seen that kind of movement on his pitches in years. He looks like he's going to have a great year, and it couldn't have come at a better time with the lack of depth we currently have in the rotation.
And the offense is so much more dynamic than it has been the last couple of years. It's amazing what speed can do, and how it opens up the game.
If we can hold steady for Prior, Wood, and Miller, and they pitch anything close to what they're capable of doing, look out.

Yes it is...Especially when you consider that them not pitching is the norm..dbdynsty25 wrote:Wow, that's asking a whole hellova lot.AJColossal wrote:If we can hold steady for Prior, Wood, and Miller, and they pitch anything close to what they're capable of doing, look out.
What the hell ...It is april in Wrigleyville.
I think they have a decent chance of getting at least one of them back for most of the season. Wood and Prior are rehabbing slowly but surely, and Miller is projected to be back by the end of May. With 1 or 2 of those guys joining Zambrano and Maddux, they could have a pretty good rotation coupled with a much improved bullpen from last year. They're already second in the league in ERA and WHIP despite the injuries.dbdynsty25 wrote:Wow, that's asking a whole hellova lot.AJColossal wrote:If we can hold steady for Prior, Wood, and Miller, and they pitch anything close to what they're capable of doing, look out.
Not that I'm predicting anything. They just are much more competitive than I was expecting this year.

I can only assume that you hate Andruw even more now, eh Zeppo? A pitchers duel like I figured...Huddy was on today. Finally the Braves pitchers are starting to pitch like they should. Three complete games in the this week so far...shutout by Smoltz, 1 run by Davies and another 1 run performance today by Huddy. The Mets certainly made it interesting in the 9th. Glavine was nails as usual. It also helps when Andruw is just on fire.
Like I said before, this series was clearly not an indication of things to come. Neither team fielded even close to their normal starting lineups...the Braves threw out 2 starters today (Andruw and Francoeur)...that's it. Eeesh. At least the Mets had a few more starters playing. Hopefully next weeks series will be more telling with more of the regulars playing.

I just can't hate Andruw Jones. Not even if he was in a Cowboys jersey, a Yankees hat, and in a Lars von Trier movie!! Seriously, the guy is just an amazing ball player. I just hate that he's on the Braves!!
Delgado just missed winning it, and if it wasn't for Wright making that 2nd error, it may well have gone into extras anyway. Either way, I just love those quick, 2hr NL ball games when the pitchers are hitting their spots and working fast (Yo, Trachsel, you hearin' me?). It was a disappointing loss of a series, but we'll see if these guys can break the bad luck the team's had down in Atlanta.
Long season, plenty to go.

Yeah, the last two games were both just a hair over 2 hours. I love that. I'd much rather watch games like that. Not that I don't like watching baseball, but I like watching well-pitched games.
That pitch Delgado just missed was terrible...one of the only mistakes Huddy made. The wind blowing in from left helped a lot.
Why the heck do the Mets even bother pitching to Andruw...there was virtually no one else in the Braves lineup that was going to hurt them with the longball outside of maybe Francoeur...but come on. The homer he hit was with 2 outs and nobody on...knowing that 1 run might be the difference. I just can't figure out why teams pitch to him...especially with the lineup the Braves threw out there today.

Damn, I totally forgot the game today was at 1pm.dbdynsty25 wrote:I can only assume that you hate Andruw even more now, eh Zeppo? A pitchers duel like I figured...Huddy was on today. 2-1? Wow. Mets got like 6 hits combined in the last 2 games of the series.
Well, that pitch today was a poorly thrown changeup, on a 2-0 count, that was meant to be diving low and away, but stayed up and wasn't away enough. It's not like even on 2-0 Glavine was about to give in and deliver the cheese. Kieth Hernandez ('Hey, I'm Kieth Hernandez!') kept going on about how Andruw was looking away even on 2-0. Great piece of hitting, poorly thrown pitch, but still, it was meant to be a change out of the zone. Glavine just missed.dbdynsty25 wrote: Why the heck do the Mets even bother pitching to Andruw...

Yeah but I was more or less talking about the other 3 homers he had in the series. You just don't pitch to the only real threat on the other team.Zeppo wrote:Well, that pitch today was a poorly thrown changeup, on a 2-0 count, that was meant to be diving low and away, but stayed up and wasn't away enough. What can you say about Julio Franco?
He's still my all-time favorite Indian. I was there in the pouring rain when he hit his first major league homerun. It was the home opener in '83 against the Orioles. George Vukovich hit a grandslam in the 8th, then some rookie nobody heard of named Julio came up next and hit a solo shot. Back to back homers, the crowd went nuts, nobody even cared it was raining like crazy.
Me and my buddy got soaked that day walking back to the bus stop. We weren't even old enough to drive yet. Ha!
That was 23 years ago!
Julio's AMAZING! I can't believe he's still going.
