It's going to be a sports talk apocalypse in Chicago this week. I hate Rodgers as much as anyone in the NFL at this point, so I'm looking forward to somebody separating him from his spleen.

I was pulling for the Jets because I like Rex and I really wanted to see the "experts" take it on the chin. You couldn't turn around last week without some blowhard pontificating about how the Pats were going to make the Jets eat their words.

Re: NFL Season 2010
Since the Falcons lost I have no do in the hunt. I sort of pulled for the Jets simply because sports radio can now focus on the Patriots loss instead of the Falcons loss.
The Falcons game was over in my mind at halftime. That interception touchdown - while in completely different situations - reminded me of the one that Theisman threw in the SB against the Raiders. Completely deflating. When the Packers scored on their first second half possession, it was clear that the Falcons couldn't stop them and didn't have the offense to come back.
Honestly, I think the NFC teams that are strong enough defensively to win against the Steelers or the Jets are the ones in the NFC championship game.

The Packers shut out the Jets in thier regular season meeting, so yeah they're good enoughkevinpars wrote:Honestly, I think the NFC teams that are strong enough defensively to win against the Steelers or the Jets are the ones in the NFC championship game.
The four teams left make for some very interesting potential SB matchups. The NFC game could not be better, with the longest rivlary in the NFL now being for a trip to the SB.

I Gotta agree. I don't know where all this "the AFC will roll through the Super Bowl" talk comes from (not necessarily anyone on this board). Sure, the AFC's entries are good teams but after witnessing both the Bears and Pack's defenses how can anyone say they don't have a chance? I think the NFC title game could be more entertaining than any of the possible Super Bowl match ups.matthewk wrote:The Packers shut out the Jets in thier regular season meeting, so yeah they're good enoughkevinpars wrote:Honestly, I think the NFC teams that are strong enough defensively to win against the Steelers or the Jets are the ones in the NFC championship game.![]()

I admit to being a victim to most of the hype. I think some of that stems from the beating the Pats gave the Bears in Chicago which now just seems like a bad day at the office mayny many moons ago.....but after last nights game where a team both the Bears and the Pack handled rolled into NE and took down the hoodie I see it in a brand new light and must agree with all of that. Any of the four teams can win it all. I still think the Steelers are the best of the four as I see them as having the fewest holes and the experience of having won a SB two years ago but as we saw again last night...ANY GIVEN SUNDAY!Diablo25 wrote:I Gotta agree. The boiling over of the rivalry brings to mind my single favorite football game of all time. The day after this game I cut out every article and photo in both Chicago papers and hung them on the wall of my childhood bedroom...where they stayed for years.

Re: NFL Season 2010
Listening to local radio all morning people are pissed that the Bears still get no respect and don't understand why a team who has beaten the Jets, Eagles and Green Bay is still regarded as an outside chance and Jekyl and Hide prospect.
As a life long Bears fan let me present you with some things from yesterday's game which make people think this way.
1. Bears are comfortably in control, Seattle has basically quit and they are running the ball at will. The Bears call for that absurd wildcat pass from Forte. There is no need for something like that, even if it has worked. The more successful the Bears offense is the more idiotic Martz gets.
2. Seattle 21 4th quarter points. The Bears defense went into a soft Cover 2 and away from what they had done all day except the guys just stopped playing. You went into a soft Cover 2 to prevent the long pass and you got burned..twice. That should never happen.
3. First onside kick, the Bears got lucky they recovered that. Corey Grahm who should be in the pro bowl feel asleep and let that ball hit him and it wasn't a missile shot either.
4. Olin Kreutz 15 yard penalty. I understand protecting your guys but you have to let that go, it was ridiculous and he has a history of doing that sort of thing. I know I am in the minority but I really can't wait til this guy retires.
In short the Bears don't really know how to finish a game. They can do it occasionally but most of the time I don't feel good until the clock hits 0, no matter how big the lead.

Re: NFL Season 2010
I guessed the line before the final whistle last night. It's probably about right. You're correct about all those things, but the biggest difference is as obvious as the differences between Cutler's and Rodgers' stats lines.

Re: NFL Season 2010
If I was a Bears fan the best thing to happen going into the NFC Championship game is the fact the Bears have this image. It was created early on in the season when the Bears and Cutler didn't know what a football looked like.
And the whole thing with McDaniels, last year, has left the impression that Cutler has a great arm but is more prone to interceptions than Farve. People forget that he was a very strong QB for Denver, where a coach created a system that took away Cutler's need to force plays. Shanahan and Cutler would still be in Denver if they had a defense.
The Super Bowl I would like to see is Jets - Bears. Ryan for two weeks would be hugely entertaining.

Re: NFL Season 2010
Agree with you on number 1, Dan, but not so much on 2. The 21 4th quarter points were not that big of a deal because the lead was so huge. The first TD was because of the silly Forte turnover, and the second one a lucky grab because Tillman made a nice play on the ball before Mike Williams made that impressive catch. One of those drives was also kept alive by a bullshit interference penalty on Tim Jennings. It was 35-10 with just over two minutes left, so I'm willing to cut them some slack for easing up after kicking the snot out of the Seahawks all game.Danimal wrote:Listening to local radio all morning people are pissed that the Bears still get no respect and don't understand why a team who has beaten the Jets, Eagles and Green Bay is still regarded as an outside chance and Jekyl and Hide prospect.

It is definitely a wide-open path to the Super Bowl. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see Jets-Packers, and more surprisingly, those would be two very good #6 seeds. I'm actually going to the Pack-Bears game, and the anticipation is going to make it a very long week for me.
Re: NFL Season 2010
Ok, some more shitty picks from me.. so the opposites will probably win.
Packers over the Bears, 27-17
Jets steam runs out and Sanchez cannot handle this Steeler defenese.. Steelers - 24 Jets - 14
So, probably the Packers and Jets in the SB.

Re: NFL Season 2010
I think the Bears get no respect because they are a boring team if you're not a fan. Sports media nowadays is all about talking about who is hot. Hot teams light up the scoreboard and make big plays. The Bears don't have those guys on the team. They're not flashy. They just show up and play. They're good without being flashy so they're not the sexy pick. The only guy they have that could be that guy doesn't want to be that guy. He just shows up and does his best and doesn't want to go into great detail about it. The sports media has really taken a nosedive.

Jets or the Steelers will beat whoever emerges from the NFC. The defenses of Chicago or Green Bay just can't match up with those of the Jets or Pitt.kevinpars wrote:Since the Falcons lost I have no do in the hunt. The Jets/Steelers game is shapping up to be a real defensive war with very low scoring. Prediction...Jets 13 Steelers 6

That's what they said about Steelers-Ravens last weekend, and the over was covered in the third quarter. F*ck yeah, I'm bitter: I took the under in Ravens-Steelers last week.

Kinda why I dislike the ignore feature. The boards terrorist supporting pig probably has me on it. Oh well. He will burn in the end anyway.
