What a match! I'm drained, just emotionally spent. If only we had Gerrard, particularly in the last 10-15'!! The Reina cock-up was just a dagger blow. All the momentum was on Liverpool's side and it was such a half-chance. Full credit to LFC and Rafa for continuing to throw punches though.
If Alex has to play in the next leg bet on Barca to score 11. Guus should wrap Terry and Carvalho in bubble wrap...even then I'd be surprised to see them concede less than 6 in the two legs.

Very proud of Liverpool who never gave up the fight....even if we defended like schoolgirls.
Don't know who the two guys in either of the goals were though - surely couldn't be Reina or Cech!?!
For me, watching Chelsea go through but hearing YNWA coming through clearly while those plastic Chelsea fans waved their identical plastic flags gave me a chuckle. Oh Fat Frank you pinball wizard!
I hope Messi and co. murder them in the next round.
EDIT: What a freekick by Alex...jeeeezus khrist, I literally winced in pain as that flew in, surprised it didn't set the net on fire...

What a match!

I must admit, when I saw them, I had a little nostalgic sigh....now for the brief history lesson, so see belowJared wrote:Dave,

I remember being at the Stoke away game mentioned in that piece...at half time, a giant inflatable shark appeared, and as two rows of standing fans moved slightly apart, the shark was lowered until only its fin could be seen from the home end...at which point it was moved down the terracing to the accompaniment of the Jaws music.
I met a Stoke fan at work about 5 years later, and the first thing he mentioned on finding out I was a blue was that the Jaws inflatable had the home fans in hysterics.
Other teams jumped on the bandwagon in the 89 season with varying degrees of relevance (Grimsby had blow up haddocks coz it's a port, which is fair enough, but Stoke's connection to the Pink Panther was never that obvious), and it had pretty much died a death by the end of our first season back in the top division.
As for why last night, well the City forums seemed to be of the opinion that we needed some old-time atmosphere to overturn the first leg deficit, and everyone seemed amused by it. I reckon it's a one off, but we'll see on Sunday.

Nice one ref - thought Sir Purple Nose was going to have a coronary when you turned down that pen.
Shame that 2 players with a combined cost of £62m can't hit the net from 12 yards

The nerve of that cheeky bastard to "disrespect" the Cup by engaging in that heinous rotation practice that is generally the province of foreigners and ne'er do wells!davet010 wrote:Nice one ref - thought Sir Purple Nose was going to have a coronary when you turned down that pen.

I can't believe the contempt with which Fergie holds the FA Cup - leaving Ronaldo, Rooney, Van Der Saar and Giggs completely out of the line-up with Scholes, Evra and Berbatov not even starting.
That is completely disrespectful of one of the world's oldest cup competitions, but then again what else could you expect from a non-English manager.
I can't wait for the press to slaughter him......

I have a sneaking feeling that they'll escape. WBA are gone (although they played well yesterday), and I think Hull will be going with them. As amusing as Newcastle hitting the deck would be, it's more likely to be Blackburn who go with them.fsquid wrote:I cannot wait until my Wednesday will have the honor of playing a massive club like Newcastle in the Championship next season.

Me too with regard to Stoke...and Brunt played very well yesterday (unlike Wayne Bridge, who had a proper 'mare).fsquid wrote:Wonder if WBA will sell Brunt back to Wednesday. Amazing that Stoke might be the only one to survive. I had them pegged for dead last.
