East: Toronto, Carolina
West: Colorado, Vegas, Winnipeg

Your Cup winner will come from one of those five teams.

The East could end up being all sweeps in round 1.

I have to admit, they’ve been very good at home. Psychologically it must terrifying for Hellebuyck.

And LA needs to change their DNA. They play great for two periods and they seem to wait for EDM’s best duos to do their thing in the 3rd or
OT. They have the better Keeper, they seem to control most of the play until they play it safe in the final 20 minutes. Should they fail to advance to the next round, they will always look back at game 3 of the series when J. Hiller challenged a good goal by E. Kane.

What a game by Bouchard tonight keeping the puck in the O zone and cranking the tying goal.

Time will tell, but what a series so far.

The Western Conference is crazy, every series tied up at 2-2.

Injuries, lack of scoring depth, mediocre-at-best goaltending. Plus, this year's team is slower and smaller than last year's.

As an Oilers' fan since 1981-82, I would love it if you were correct. Sadly, you will be proven to be incorrect. This year's Oilers' team is weaker than last year's, which came within two goals in Game 7 of hoisting the Cup. The reasons:

1. This year's team is smaller and slower. Young, fast, big skaters like McLeod, Foegele, Holloway and Broberg were replaced by smaller, older, slower dudes like Jeff Skinner, Arvidsson, Podkolzin and Emberson this season. A net negative.

2. The Oilers have two quality NHL backups in net in Stu Skinner and Pickard. Neither is an elite NHL starter, and that's necessary to win the Cup. Find me a recent Cup winner that had sh*tty goaltending in the postseason. You won't.

3. Regression. A bunch of guys regressed offensively this season, stats-wise. Bouchard, Hyman, Nugent-Hopkins, McDavid. That puts even more pressure on the "big two" of McDavid and Draisaitl to deliver.

4. Lousy penalty killing. The Oilers' PK was at 90 percent or better during the postseason this year. So far this postseason, the Oilers' PK Is at 53 percent, by far the worst of the 16 playoff teams. A 75 percent PK is dismal; this is beyond atrocious.

5. Injuries. McDavid and Draisaitl entered the postseason coming off injuries late in the year. The team's best defenseman (no, it's not Bouchard), Mattias Ekholm, is out for at least the first round.

6. Defense. The Oilers' defense is bad, allowing 4.5 goals per game in the postseason. The only way Edmonton can win is to outscore teams. That won't work against disciplined defensive teams in the East with good goaltending like Washington or Florida.

Dude, there are few things in my free time on which I spend more hours than watching this team. Watch probably 65-70 full regular-season games, every playoff game and extended YouTube highlights of the games I miss. I know this team. It's not hoisting the mug this June.

I am not expert, but without decent goaltending you won’t go very far. Without their #1 D-man, Kings are scoring at will at home. Having said that, psychologically LA got to win tonight. You don’t want to go back to EDM trailing 3-2 in the series and memories of their past encounters in mind.

looking at this series from a 1000 ft level it always felt like Kings were not going to uphold that 2-0 series lead. I knew EDM was gonna come back 2-2. And I'm pretty sure this series will end in game 6 at Edmonton with the Oilers winning.

told you

the only team i think that can beat the Oilers in the West is Vegas

I dont follow the regular season. I just tune into NHL playoffs. Been doing that like 20+ years. I get a good vibe of every team after the first few games.

So, you know more or as much about a team as a guy who watches 70+ games. That's adorable.

My take: Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes.

no i'm not saying that

i'm saying that sometimes the people that watch daily may miss the big picture. that someone with a fresh set of eyes looking at the NHL playoff landscape finds trends at a very high level that the people who delve in the weeds miss out on.

Uh, that's the same thing as what you said originally.

I'm calling complete BS if you can honestly say you saw Knoblauch switching from Skinner to Pickard with success and that Kane, Klingberg and Frederic would continue to improve every single game through the series with L.A. after their long layoffs, making the difference in this resurgence from 2-0 down.

Enjoy the playoffs, Nostradamus. Keep finding those nuts.

G7 between Stars-Avs was worth of a Western conference finals instead. Too good of a series for a 1st round series to be honest. Did Rantanen ever give it back to his former team. A great series, didn’t see DAL pulling it thru with some key injuries.

Love G7s, luv them. Just as DAL-AVS game was a thriller to watch, the impossible comeback by the Jets, surpassed the agony and excitement winning in double OT. All credit to the Blues, who turned their fortunes when JM took over the coaching job. Already without their Captain Scheifele, and Morrisey injured in the 1st period, the attention was focused on whether C. Hellebuyck could win the big games.

Jets made the incredible comeback trailing by 2 with 2 minutes left and the goalie pulled. Perfetti was clutch and Lowry did the rest in double OT.

Tough loss for the Blues, but great turn around in the second half of the season. That was exhausting to watch. 8)

Let the second round of the playoffs begin…

didnt think the winnipeg was for real. but they showed they belong with that comeback. but was it more of a STL choke in the last min of the 3rd?

you got to win up 2 goals with 2 min left and the other team has pulled the goalie TWICE in a playoffs game 7! Amazing they tie it with 1 second left in regulation.

That win was a career-saver for Hellebuyck. He would have been forever labeled a playoff choker if the Jets lost that series.

Hellebuyck still isn't out of the woods. He still sucks in the playoffs, in general. But at least Arniel can whisper into his ear, "OK, Hellie, you won a first-round series. Now just relax and play the way you can."

Neither Dallas nor Winnipeg is as good as Edmonton or Vegas right now -- mainly due to all the injuries on both teams. So, Hellebuyck can still be mediocre to lousy, and the Jets still may win the series against Dallas. If Heiskanen is back for this series, that's a HUGE boost to the Stars. I'm not sure of Schiefele's and Morrissey's status today for Winnipeg.
