The Refs in the Bruins/Panther series have been terrible. Somebody explain how that goal stood.

Throughout the playoffs, the Zebras have been horrible, no matter which series. Missed calls, made up calls, video reviews to confirm their deficiencies. Now this series is getting nasty as BOS missed their rat and until Bennett pays for it, refs will have thru hands full for the remaining of the series.

pk500 wrote: Thu May 09, 2024 3:42 pm Brutal loss for the Oil last night. Confirmed everyone's postseason fears about Skinner. Stu is due to throw away one game per series with shaky play. Hopefully last night was the last game in which he sh*ts the bed in this series.

I'm also not buying Knoblauch's "cramping" excuse for Draisaitl's injury. This team is cooked if Drai can't play or is at very reduced effectiveness.
When you have a 3rd stringer goaltending like the ‘Nucks have currently, outplaying Skinner who was very good during the regular season, then as a coach you gotta make a change for game 4 if you want to stay alive in the series. And this is with Pettersson still in LA-LA land, No P. Demko in sight and a team playing solid D so far for Tocchet.

The nastiness is starting to creep in the series, but besides goaltending I like how R. Tocchet is taking advantage of the pairing Nurse-Ceci who are making key mistakes at the wrong time. I would split them for sure, I said this 2-3 years ago on this board, when Nurse got his big extension contract that in the long run, EDM was going to regret his signing.

Go Canucks :D

It's Pickard time. Skinner's save percentage in this series is below .800. That won't cut in the ECHL, much less the NHL.

One of the most intense, high drama playoffs series yet. Another 1 goal decision game, its best of 3 now, Pickard brings a calmness the Oils needed desperately, Draisaitl is a beast, Canucks’ grittiness is great to watch. All this watching playoffs hockey in a foreign land while on a Biz trip is just amazing.

Still paging for E. Pettersson, has anyone seen him? Game 5 coming up already…

Finally some puck luck. Also, Matthew Tkachuk is a ghost this round.

seemed like the last 5 min they were the only ones out there. by the 1 min mark they were all gassed. even with under a minute one of the players was holding the puck behind the net I was yelling go go go because time was dwindling down. they were so gassed they wasted a good 7-8 seconds to catch their breaths under a min to go.

-

I don't know if the Oilers get back for a while. Seems like Vegas last year, they just had everything line up perfectly for them in the playoff matchup's. I dont know if that kind of luck happens in hockey back to back years.

It was one hell of a series though, I cannot believe Edmonton forced a Game 7 after losing the first 3 games. Hell of a run by them and Congratulations to the Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers!!!

I was rooting for Edmonton. They just ran out of gas.

Now, the most important hockey news of the week…Matty Michkov is free from his KHL contract and on his way to the Flyers.

Tragic news in the world of Hockey. Johnny Gaudreau along his younger brother were killed in a motorcycle accident as they were hit by a driver under the influence. They were to attend their sister’s wedding over the weekend.

Johnny, even at 31 years was one of the talented players for COL and the entire league. Very sad.

Unthinkable tragedy. A family losing two sons on the eve of their daughter's wedding.

You always hear this when someone dies young, but Johnny Hockey was beloved in the room and on the ice by his teammates at Boston College, Calgary and Columbus.

Not many fans from the East have heard not even know the caliber of player that Miko Rantanen is and has been for the Avs. He was just traded yesterday, a mega trade at this time of the year before the trade deadline.

Well, CAR becomes my favorite now to win the Cup, let’s put it blantly. Give them more consistent goaltending and they’ll be in the finals. That’s how impactful a superstar like Rantanen will be for the Canes.

Helps that the Hawks (3 teams got involved in the trade) can retain some of the salary for Miko but for the past 8 years or so, N. McKinnon and him have carried COL far including a SC not long ago.

Perhaps asking about 14 million next season was going to be too much for Sakic and CO, so the trade made sense as they would have to renew the contract of McKinnon and Makar soon.

Bingo. This is a salary dump, plain and simple.

The Oilers have/will prove that two eight-figure per year players can be kept on one roster, as McDavid almost certainly will stay after signing a max deal like Draisaitl did last summer.

But three max players? No team's budget can handle that, especially since unlike other leagues, the NHL's cap is hard. Not many circumventions like the various ways the NBA makes its cap quite soft.

It's clear Sakic has placed his priority with MacKinnon and Makar. If you're going to keep only two of the Big Three, those are the guys to keep. MacKinnon is the second-best forward in the world, and Makar is the best defenseman on this planet (sorry, Vancouver -- it isn't Quinn Hughes).

who are the favorites this year to win the cup? I don't follow the regular season but checked the standings and seems like a lot of surprising team on top like the jets and caps.

Jets are not a surprise, solid team with the best Keeper in the world today. Now if you asked me if WAS would be one of the better teams currently not to mention that Ovie is only 20 goals away from tying the record of the great One, that is a major surprise.

Oilers and Vegas in the west, Canes and FLO in the east are the usual suspects for me.

Not many gave a rats a$$ about the Four Nations’ tournament about 2 weeks ago including myself. But after watching several games especially the Canada-USA series, and the way Hockey should be played, every game just started growing on me. A bit surreal that it took almost a decade to watch this type of intensity and Hockey played internationally among the top players in the world. Put politics aside, sure I wish a few more countries will be joining next time.

Who can forget the 3 fights in the first 9 seconds last Saturday between Canada-USA? The finals was electrifying, C. Bennington who was criticized in Canada for his irregular play had a couple of unbelievable saves in OT which gave Canada the golden medal. And in the end, it had to be the best player in the world to come up with the winning goal.

Another player that will always be among the best in the world, with some grey growing in him. How about Sydney Crosby? A winner wherever he goes, another trophy in his illustrious career.

Oh Canada…but more importantly in the end Hockey won.

What a showcase for the great game. I had high hopes entering this tourney, and it exceeded all of them.

Congrats to McJesus. Right guy, wrong sweater. :)

Congrats to Canada. They deserved it. Binnington has mediocre numbers, but what a gamer. Dude shows up when it counts.

Congrats to Gary Bettman and the NHL. They created something really special and showed the rest of the sports world how all-star competitions should be done. This was the best in-season all-star competition in the history of pro sports. Period.

Congrats to hockey. It was the biggest of the many winners here.

Well it took about 20 years but the greatest scorer of all time was just surpassed by the great Ovy. When I watched his hat-trick over the weekend vs CHI, everyone was in pin and needles hoping that he would break the record especially when #99 was in the building.

Well #895 came vs the NYI instead with his patented snapshot. What an accomplishment, a record that will never be broken again. Right? 8)

Even more symmetry: Gretz and Ovi had played either the same number of games or were one game apart when Ovi broke the record. More: Gretz's last career goal came against ... you guessed it -- the Islanders.

Think Ovi's record will stand for the rest of my life -- I'm 60 next month -- without rules changes. Averaging 45 goals per season for 20 years is INSANE.
