I'm stoked for the iPhone 6 unveil because I'll see the phone I'll own in two years or so.

Rumored designs are humongous. No more one-handed operation.
The thing that gives me pause is the rumor that they're sticking with 1 GB of RAM. That leads to many app. and Safari tab reloading.
Supposedly they're rolling out some mobile payment system. If they can solve the Chip and PIN problem, it could be a big deal. Not just for transactions in the US but in the rest of the world which has adopted it.

iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, Apple Pay, iWatch. All leaked info and not interested in any of them. The iWatch does look stylish but who the hell wears watches anymore with smart devices having clocks?

I'll be first in line for an iPhone 6 Plus and I'd love to see Apple Pay take off. Apple Watch is definitely the best of the "smart watches" out there now, but yeah, I don't know what it would actually help me do on a day to day basis.

I don't get the watch as I told my friend their demo included them drawing message to one another in what I'll call a 12 year old girl secret code on what to eat for lunch. Plus I think they quickly dropped the line the watch requires you to have an iPhone. Only thing I need a watch for is to see the time and I haven't worn one since getting a smart phone.

Agreed. But I (embarrassingly) remember having similar reservations about the iPhone before it came out.Danimal wrote:I don't get the watch as I told my friend their demo included them drawing message to one another in what I'll call a 12 year old girl secret code on what to eat for lunch. Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
The only notable addition to the iPhone is the OIS in the camera...you definitely will enjoy that. Every phone should have that...without a doubt.
Otherwise, same old same...Apple at it's finest. Here's a bigger phone that we said we'd never make. Smh.
Sells like hotcakes...rinse/repeat.
I do find it interesting that they went 4.7...which is already significantly bigger than the 5S...AND even bigger than that. Jobs never would have let that happen IMO.

Well, I'll be the first (only?) one here to say that the Apple Watch has me totally geeked out just for the fun factor alone. I haven't worn a watch in 7 years, and really don't even care that the device tells time, but I can't wait for this. Here's what I see that I like...
- Goodbye Fitbit! (POS keeps breaking and the Apple Watch should replace it nicely)
- A usable UI when running. Right now I have to stop and rotate my phone in its armband case if I get a text while on a run. Or if I want to change my playlist, etc. This is huge for me.
- Ability to send my wife (gotta get her one too!) flirtatious "taps" during the day.
- Ability to glance at messages while driving rather than look down at my phone in the cupholder.
- The fact that it gently "taps" my wrist when new messages come in.
- Extension of Apple Pay, which I am also very excited about.
- Remote control for the iPhone camera. I can finally get more use out of that tripod!!
And I gotta get me a 6 too, looks great! (Pass the Kool-Aid)

Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
Guess I'm the only one who thinks the release date of iOS 8 is more exciting than any of the products Apple unveiled today.
Yeah, I'm going to own an iPhone 6 -- eventually. Probably when I'm due for an upgrade next summer. I don't see any reason I want an iWatch. Like Danimal, I haven't owned a watch since I bought my first cell phone.
But iOS 8 is something I'm going to use every day in less than two weeks. That's more impactful to me than a new phone or George Jetson smart watch.

Count me in as stoked for the Apple Watch. I'm a self proclaimed geek so this s*** get my juices going. I love the fitness stuff and will use the hell out of it. I was very impressed with what I saw. I will have one on day 1 no doubt. I'll be getting the iPhone 6. The 6 Plus just seems too big. Maybe I'll change my mind but the 4.7 sounds like the sweet spot. Next step, iOS 8 on the 17th. Can't wait for all of itLeadfoot5 wrote:Well, I'll be the first (only?) one here to say that the Apple Watch has me totally geeked out just for the fun factor alone. Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
Are they supporting the 4S with iOS8? I guess it's only a couple of years old.
I use a Fitbit. I don't have to have it be in range of my phone to use it though. Seems like the watch depends on the data connection and GPS in the iPhone in order to work. Good battery life, very easy to put on and it doesn't get in your way. I used to not like taking the watch on and off all the time, to shower or on hot days, perspiration would build up underneath the band.
I'm all for collecting the data but must admit I rarely go back and check it out. Fitbit will periodically email you as you reach certain milestones and they give you virtual badges and such. Could not care less. I guess the only way the data is useful to me is that it sets a benchmark or goals to repeatedly meet or exceed.
Otherwise I don't know.
The cycling tracking is interesting but it probably uses GPS to determine your distance, so people taking spinning classes or just use the bikes at the gym probably won't benefit. Otherwise, how would a sensor on your wrist determine how much you've cycled on a stationary bike?
I was going to get a Wifi scale to log my weight. Maybe I'll see if someone produces one compatible with HealthKit. Otherwise, you could end up with several accounts from different fitness devices.

Going to wait this launch out until I actually have an upgrade available. My Son has an upgrade available and the iPhone 5 I gave him last time I upgraded has a "spiderman" screen and he needs a replacement. Going to see if he wants my 5s which is a year old and won't cost him a nickel. If he wants to do that, then I will get the 64GB 6 + using his upgrade and do the switch of phones at Best Buy.
If I pass on all of the above, I am going to be getting the new Nike Vapor Pro Combo Irons at the end of October......my handicap has come down 15 strokes since late May, so I am looking for a step up with my equipment. Fallen in love with the game again and making time to integrate practice time with my other exercise regimen.

Yes. It's the oldest version that will support iOS8. The 4 will not. I can't believe I got almost $100 last night for my daughter's 8GB iPhone4 on Swappa.com.wco81 wrote:Are they supporting the 4S with iOS8? I guess it's only a couple of years old.
The cycling tracking is pretty meaningless to me. I carry my cell phone in my saddle pack when I ride in case of emergency, and I alternate between the Strava and Cyclemeter apps to measure distance, average speed, altitude, etc., etc. Plus Strava has gamification elements that make it really fun to use and to compete against area cyclists.wco81 wrote:The cycling tracking is interesting but it probably uses GPS to determine your distance, so people taking spinning classes or just use the bikes at the gym probably won't benefit. Love it Divot! Get after it! I got my first set of custom fit Pings this year (i25's) and LOVE them. I'm finishing up my best year ever of golf. Consistently anywhere from 71-77. Also went to the Stroke Saver putter grip (2.0, not the really fat one) and it has transformed me from an average putter to, well, an above average putter. I love the game more and more every year. Sorry for the OT...back to the geek stuff.DivotMaker wrote:

After watching more of the unveiling I am kinda warming to the 6 plus. Doesn't look as big as I expected in your hand. Gotta choose sometime before Friday.

Strava and Cyclemeter must use GPS then.
Otherwise, you'd need one of those bike computers that puts a sensor on the wheels or something, to measure distance.

Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
For you guys with the 4 and 4s Verizon will give you $200 to upgrade to the 6. The trade in deal is good for the 5 also but not sure if that is a great deal on that model?
Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
I was just asking myself that because I am in that boat. Sounds like I could squeeze out a few more dollars elsewhere if sufficiently motivated.Bakes wrote:For you guys with the 4 and 4s Verizon will give you $200 to upgrade to the 6. Yes, they both do. Crazy thing is I still have my old-school wired Cateye cyclocomputer, with a wheel sensor, mounted on my bike even though I use my phone apps to do the job.wco81 wrote:Strava and Cyclemeter must use GPS then.

Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
Been reading deeper into the Apple Watch functions on Apple.com's site and I got some good news. Evidently you can use the watch independent of the iPhone for some things. I run a lot and have an iPod Nano for running. I don't want to have to carry my iphone with me when I run...too big, cumbersome, etc. I just saw this in the 'features' section at Apple.com
I still haven't seen battery life estimates. Hopefully it has at least a 2-3 day charge.
Sapphire Crystal isn't used on the face of all models. 'Ion X' glass is used in the sport model.
I'm guessing I can use a Bluetooth headset with this function. Hope so. I have a $19 gizmo that turns any headset/earbuds into, essentially, a Bluetooth headset.Music. Control the music on your iPhone without taking it out of your pocket. And when you leave iPhone at home to go for a jog, listen to music directly on Apple Watch.

Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
iPod would still be better for runs where you want to carry the lightest gear. Actually it is a good idea to carry a phone sometimes, never know if you need to call for whatever reason.
But the 6 Plus is not something you can strap to your arm unless you're an NBA power forward. Probably won't fit an SPI bag either.
Only advantage of the Watch would be that you can sync your data later to all these fitness apps which aggregate your workouts online. You can't do that with a Nano, other than the old Nike Plus Running. With HealthKit and the built in fitness apps on the phone and the watch, I guess Apple will track data against your AppleID or something. They did talk about some reward system, probably badges and medals that every other site gives you.

I disagree. It would be about the same weight-wise. The watch on your wrist or a nano on your belt...same difference. Add in the data upload capability and it would be better with the watch. Plus you can glance at your progress on the watch MUCH easier.wco81 wrote:iPod would still be better for runs where you want to carry the lightest gear.

I meant more cost-wise.
The data upload is nice, depending on what you do with that data. But you're paying hundreds more just for the Watch vs. the iPod.
A watch expert likes the build quality and design a lot. But it won't appeal to watch connossieurs because it's not mechanical.
