Philadelphia has tepid interest, Murray had to call them and tell them he wanted to play with his best friend which is what really got them talking. This fell into their lap, and was driven more by Murray than anyone else.Brando70 wrote:Wow on the DeMarco Murray signing. As much as I've wondered if Kelly knows what he's doing, appropriating his biggest rival's main offensive weapon is huge. Will be interesting to see if Ryan Mathews actually joins Philly now, but either way, that's quite the coup for the Eagles.

Now Cowboys have to show some kind of interest in Peterson, will JJ be willing to take a gamble on him?
Re: The NFL 2014-2015
Murray didn't call Chip. Chip called Murray. Murray just inked the deal (7pm). Got Matthews too.Danimal wrote:Philadelphia has tepid interest, Murray had to call them and tell them he wanted to play with his best friend which is what really got them talking. I just going by every media report which say Murray reached out to Kelly. We all don't have the hotline to Kelly's office like you do.Diablo25 wrote: Murray didn't call Chip. Chip called Murray. Murray just inked the deal (7pm). Got Matthews too.

No hotline here...just listened to Chip's press conference where he said Demarco didn't call him, he called Demarco.Danimal wrote:I just going by every media report which say Murray reached out to Kelly. Fair enough I didn't see the news conference. I saw it reported on NFL network last night, ESPN last night and it ran through my news feed multiple times today. I guess its typical media one guy reports it and everyone runs with it.Diablo25 wrote:No hotline here...just listened to Chip's press conference where he said Demarco didn't call him, he called Demarco.Danimal wrote:I just going by every media report which say Murray reached out to Kelly. Are either Bradford or Murray married?

Yeah I think the media said yesterday that Murray called Chip. Classic Philly media. Murray mentioned that he was a husband and father during his press conference. I was very impressed with him. Very soft spoken. Respectful and thankful to both the Eagles and Cowboys.Danimal wrote:Diablo25 wrote:Fair enough I didn't see the news conference. Phins get Kenny Stills from the Saints for Ellerbe and a 3rd round pick. I think Mike Wallace days are numbered.
Edit: the Phins also picked up TE Jordan Cameron

Supposedly the Dolphins are trying to trade Wallace to the Vikings. Hmm, I wonder if they'll swap Wallace for AP?

Bills sign Percy Harvin to a one-year deal. Why?
This reeks of the last high-profile, trouble-making WR the Bills signed to a one-year deal - Terrell Owens. We all know how well that worked out.

Chris Borland (24) decides to retire over long term safety concerns. I was reading an article yesterday, that said several other young players in their prime decided to retire over safety concerns as well. I wonder if this is a trend the NFL is looking into? It's got to be worrying that several retired players say they wouldn't play in the NFL if they had to do it over again and LeBron saying he wouldn't let his kid play football.

Former NFL receiver Donte Stallworth thinks Borland's retirement is going to start a trend of early retirements.

I played football in college, my brother played in college and is a head football coach at the college level now. Both of us are of the opinion while we'd let our kids play football if they really wanted to, we would encourage them to play other sports.Rodster wrote:Chris Borland (24) decides to retire over long term safety concerns. I have migraine issues to this day, that my Dr.'s believe are quite possibly tied to several undiagnosed concussions during my playing career. I can't even imagine what it would be like if I had played in the NFL.

Very brave choice for Borland. Wish him luck. But not everyone has options like may have. Football for a lot of current NFL players is one way and sometimes the only way to better their lives and their families lives economically/socially.
Personally I wont' let my kids play football. When my son was 6, he wanted to play in a flag football league. I was all for it and signed up. The day before his first game, a 6 year old kid on another team suffered a concussion. After that, I ate the money and pulled him out. Concussions at 6 years old - not worth it!

I read elsewhere that he only planned to play 1 year all along.
He just wanted to see if he could play in the NFL, though as a rookie behind two pro bowl inside LBs, he couldn't have expected to play as many snaps as he did.

In that case just as likely to get concussions playing in the playground, or in soccer or youth basketball. Football had zero to do with it.Inuyasha wrote:Very brave choice for Borland. Seriously. The actions that cause conclusions are the result if being heavily protected by pads and helmets. It allows people to hit each other at much greater force. When sports science did a show on the different between rugby and football, the difference in force was insane. Football would become much safer with leather helmets and less pads. It would also require more skill and less brute force.bkrich83 wrote:In that case just as likely to get concussions playing in the playground, or in soccer or youth basketball. But yeah, a six year old is as likely to get a concussion playing on a jungle gym as he is playing flag football.
