I had to replace my first one because of a bad Blu Ray but after the Xbox fiasco I went the Best Buy route.
Sucks to hear your having an issue, what does Sony want to charge you for a repair?

I presume you've tried reconfiguring the display options et al. already?jLp vAkEr0 wrote:Well, suddenly, my PS3 doesn't work with HDMI.
It turns on normally but I get no signal con my tv. When I hook it via RCA cables it works fine.
Better yet, Sony warranty ran out June 27.
I know I sometimes have had problems when I switch between TVs/cables and must reset the display options (hold down power on startup for ~5 seconds). Sorry to hear of the problems, hope it works out.

I bet you money that's the problem. Power it up holding the button for 5 seconds, it'll get you back to default, then you can configure from there. Mine does that occasionally when I switch from my LCD w/ HDMI to my CRT with components.GameSeven wrote:I presume you've tried reconfiguring the display options et al. already?jLp vAkEr0 wrote:Well, suddenly, my PS3 doesn't work with HDMI.

When you say "now" do you mean something that has occurred today? If so, I'm going to be pissed since I just updated last night because I wanted to try the NCAA demo on PS3 to compare to X360.grtwhtsk wrote:System update 2.40 is now available.
The number of system updates on the PS3 is absolutely ridiculous. I swear, I've updated my system almost as much as I've played it. They should do quarterly updates at most IMO.

It could be trolls as there are usually tons of those threads right after a firmware release on the Playstation.com forums. I updated this morning and no problems. I like the new features like the power off button on the XMB and the clock. I have no interest in trophies just as I have no interest in game achievements. I never understood the attaboy mentality.sportdan30 wrote:Not sure if it's trolls, but there are many who are saying their system has crashed or gets hung up after downloading the update. Might want to wait a day or two before updating.grtwhtsk wrote:System update 2.40 is now available.

I don't mind the updates -- I'd rather have too much support than too little -- but they need to fix the process. Let you accept the legal and see the changes BEFORE you download, then just download and install. I hate when I start downloading and leave it for a while, only to come back to having to tell the update to install, then waiting for that to run.

The only problem I have with the updates is the speed of the downloads, but that goes for anything on PSN or from the store. I feel like the have 3 little dudes peddling bikes for their download speeds.

I installed it Scoop and have zero issues with it. In game XMB works albeit a little slow i.e. lag "while the icons load". I have not experienced any lockups either.
And I checked yesterday and the update is still not available. The Playstation forum seem to indicate that Sony will release another update as soon as 2-3 days, once they figured out what went wrong.
The other thing about the so called bricked systems. It appears something was written to the hard drive that got corrupted because many have formatted the drives via a PC with a SATA cable and once the drive was formatted their PS3's booted fine. The downside is that you would lose your game saves.

Not sure I understand your sarcasm.Rodster wrote:The other thing about the so called bricked systems.
Lets see update was released, people were unable to boot their ps3's and Sony pulled it. Just because a few people were savvy enough to reformat their HD with a PC doesn't make the rest of the systems in working condition.
I certainly hope Sony is going to do the right thing and fix the rest of the systems for free and help the people who can't do the above.

It's the HDMI port in my TV.GameSeven wrote:I presume you've tried reconfiguring the display options et al. already?jLp vAkEr0 wrote:Well, suddenly, my PS3 doesn't work with HDMI.

If I jiggle the hdmi cable I can get a signal eventually.
I tried the PS3 on another HDTV with the same cable and it worked fine.
I don't quite understand your negativity?Danimal wrote:Not sure I understand your sarcasm.Rodster wrote:The other thing about the so called bricked systems.

The only harm or foul is you lose your games saves and content which you can re download.

Lets just say our definitions vary. If someone can't reformat their drive on a PC can they use their PS3? According to what I read they can't.
Not being able to use their PS3 may not equate to bricked for you, but I think some people would have a different opinion.
It doesn't matter to me either way this is a very over rated update in my opinion so I'm in no rush to update and hope my PS3 continues to work.
